Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari potensi pakan asal limbah tanaman pangan dan daya dukungnya terhadap populasi ternak ruminansia di wilayah kabupaten Sumedang. Penelitian dilakukan dengan cara survey dan pengumpulan data sekunder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Potensi pakan asal rumput alam dan jerami asal limbah tanaman pangan di seluruh wilayah kabupaten Sumedang adalah 284.784,72 ton bahan kering (BK) yang terdiri atas 86.937,65 ton BK asal rumput dan 197.847,07 ton BK asal limbah tanaman pangan. Daya dukung pakan terhadap populasi ternak adalah 85.739,79 satuan ternak (ST), yang terdiri atas 26.174,21 ST ternak ruminansia kecil dan 59.565,58 ST ternak ruminansia besar. Potensi protein …

Cangkang rajungan mengandung kitin yang persentasenya paling besar berupa polisakarida. Kitin dan derivat-derivatnya telah banyak digunakan dalam berbagai keperluan terutama untuk kesehatan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian tepung rajungan sebagai sumber kitin terhadap efisiensi pakan dan kandungan lemak feces tikus putih Rattus norvegicus) strain Wistar. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial 2x5 dengan tiga kali ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah jenis kelamin dan kedua level tepung rajungan yaitu 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui sejauh mana pengaruh lama penyimpanan semen cair ayam buras pada suhu 50C terhadap periode fertil dan fertilitas sperma. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 3 perlakuan dan setiap perlakuan diulang 6 kali. Ventricular arrhythmia (VA) is a common arrhythmia in dogs. Several extracardiac causes such as pain may contribute this condition. This case report describes a 9-year-old neutered male Labrador Retriever with ventricular tachycardia (VT) potentially related to severe neck pain due to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). The dog was referred with a sign of inability to walk, tachypnea and an irregular heartbeat. Electrocardiography confirmed VT at 160-200 bpm and an increased cardiac troponin I level (35.22 ng/ml). Despite antiarrhythmic treatment, the VT persisted. Cardiac evaluation revealed no structural abnormalities. Rotaviral diarrhea in foals is caused by two dominant G3P[12] and G14P[12] genotypes of equine rotavirus A (ERVA). Protection of foals against ERVA infection and disease is achievable by passive antibody transfer through colostrum from mares receiving inactivated monovalent G3P[12] vaccine. Simian rotavirus SA11 G3P[2] is also included in ERVA vaccines to protect foals. Synovitis is a key contributor to the development of OA, and early modulation of the synovial environment may help limit downstream cartilage damage. This study compared the clinical and biochemical effects of intra-articular triamcinolone acetonide (TA) and autologous conditioned serum (ACS) in an equine model of IL-1β–induced synovitis. Six healthy adult horses were used in a crossover design involving five groups: PBS (negative control), IL-1β (positive control), IL-1β + ACS, IL-1β + TA, and an exploratory ACS-alone group administered post hoc to isolate its effects without IL-1β interference. Dextrorphan is a Phase I equine metabolite of dextromethorphan, a widely used anti-tussive / cough suppressant medication marketed and available in numerous over-the-counter formulations in the United States. Dextromethorphan is an Association of Racing Commissioners International (ARCI) drug class 4 penalty class B substance and a Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Authority (HIWU) CONTROLLED S7 B substance and is regulated as such in horse racing. In horses, dextromethorphan is metabolized to its Phase I metabolite, dextrorphan, which is next glucuronidated and the resultant dextrorphan-glucuronide conjugate then excreted at remarkably high concentrations in equine urine. Caliciviridae is a family of non-enveloped, positive-sense, single stranded RNA viruses, including eleven defined genera that contain important pathogens of humans and animals. Within the Caliciviridae family, the genus Vesiviridae includes feline calicivirus, a leading cause of upper respiratory disease in cats, and vesicular exanthema of swine virus, a historical disease of domestic swine that has now been implicated in several marine mammal vesicular diseases, one of which has been confirmed zoonotic. Equine placental dysfunction impairs fetal growth and disrupts pregnancy outcomes. Despite many advances in diagnosis, the molecular pathophysiology of equine placentitis and premature placental separation remains poorly understood. However, the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF-α) pathway is related to placental hypoxia, and its modulation in placental diseases has been shown in other species. Therefore, we hypothesized that in conditions marked by equine placental dysfunction, oxygen deprivation in the chorioallantois membrane triggers the activation of the HIF-α pathway, which is related to molecular alterations associated with placental insufficiency. Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) is a neurologic disease of horses prevalent in the Americas, caused by the coccidian parasites Sarcocystis neurona and Neospora hughesi. Toxoplasma gondii is a related parasite that infects nearly all warm-blooded animals, including horses. Prior studies show conflicting results on whether T. gondii contributes to EPM, in part because no validated T. gondii serologic assay exists in horses. This study developed a recombinant TgSAG1 ELISA and confirmatory Western blot. Equid alphaherpesvirus 1 and 4 (EHV-1/-4) circulate at equestrian facilities, contributing to outbreaks. Due to the complexities of the pathogen, including the limited predictability of reactivation from latency and the effects associated with secondary sites of viral replication, abortion, and neurologic disease, EHV infections are of utmost concern to the equine industry. Summary with Implications
Pregnancy and estrous cycle management are critical considerations when feeding intact heifers in the feedyard. Alternatively, producers can opt to spay heifers, which eliminates hormonal fluctuations associated with the estrous cycle. A proportion of U.S. feedlots have spayed heifers on feed, although there is limited data comparing the performance of spayed heifers to intact heifers. A commercial feedlot experiment was conducted to compare performance between spayed and intact heifers fed melengestrol acetate. Background: Ichthyosis fetalis (IF), also known as harlequin ichthyosis, is a rare and often fatal autosomal recessive congenital skin disorder. It is characterized by thickened, hard skin plaques and deep skin fissures that limit mobility and cause malformations of the eyes, lips and ears. Affected individuals are highly susceptible to life-threatening infections due to the disruption of the skin's protective barrier. To date, IF and its genetic basis have not been described in domestic cats.

Background
Suppressing estradiol (E₂) during baboon pregnancy lowers offspring skeletal muscle capillary density, vital for insulin-mediated glucose uptake, and induces insulin resistance. We examined whether E₂ deprivation also impairs microvascular flow and cardiac function.
Methods
Offspring of untreated baboons, letrozole-treated baboons, or letrozole plus E₂ (maternal s.c. injections during the second half of gestation) underwent contrast-enhanced microbubble ultrasonography to quantify microvessel flow and echocardiography to assess cardiac performance.
Results
Letrozole reduced maternal serum E₂ by 95% (p < 0.01). In letrozole offspring, microbubble flux rate (β) fell 55% (p < 0.02), replenishment was 5 s slower (p < 0.03), and microvessel flow declined 40% (p = 0.05); all were restored by added E₂. Indices of systolic (isovolumic contraction), diastolic (isovolumic relaxation), global performance (Tei index), and cardiac output were unchanged.
Conclusion

On-demand topical inserts for HIV prevention may be a good option for people who have a low frequency of sexual activity. We recently demonstrated in a preclinical macaque model that rectal application of inserts containing tenofovir alafenamide fumarate (TAF) and elvitegravir (EVG) conferred protection against SHIV infection (93% efficacy) when applied as pre-exposure prophylaxis 4 hours before SHIV exposure. Here, we show that the same inserts provide significant postexposure protection (82.9% efficacy) when applied 4 hours after SHIV exposure. Our findings further support the ongoing clinical development of TAF/EVG inserts for on-demand HIV prevention.

Ctenocephalides felis are vectors of several bacterial pathogens that cause disease in humans and animals, including Bartonella henselae and Rickettsia felis. Successful pathogen transmission requires that microbes survive the immune defenses of the flea digestive tract following blood feeding. In insects, humoral immune responses are regulated primarily by the Toll and immune deficiency (IMD) signaling pathways, with the IMD pathway serving as the principal defense against Gram-negative bacteria. Avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) is a respiratory pathogen that causes Turkey Rhinotracheitis (TRT) in turkeys and Swollen Head Syndrome (SHS) in chickens. The infection leads to facial swelling, nasal discharge, reduced egg production, and poor growth. This virus is classified into four subgroups: aMPV-A, B, C, and D, with two other novel subgroups, in which aMPV-A, B, and C are most prevalent in the commercial flocks. In early 2024, aMPV-A and B outbreaks have been reported in the US, resulting in severe economic losses. Introduction: We previously showed that baboon offspring born to mothers deprived of estrogen during the second half of gestation exhibited insulin resistance prior to and after the onset of puberty. Moreover, the size of skeletal muscle myofibers and the number of microvessels important for delivery of insulin/glucose to myofibers were lower in near-term fetuses deprived of estrogen during pregnancy, and myofiber capillarization remained reduced in post-pubertal offspring deprived of estrogen in utero. However, it remains to be determined whether skeletal muscle size is restored to normal in animals deprived of estrogen in utero after the onset of puberty/gonadal estrogen production. …

The objective of this study was to examine potential associations between environmental factors and the progression of Equine Degenerative Myeloencephalopathy (EDM). While environmental contributions to neurodegenerative diseases are increasingly recognized in human patients, little is known about their role in EDM. A comprehensive literature review highlighted the lack of research in this area. Data for this study were collected by Dr. Amy Johnson at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center. The two main areas studied were a horse’s lifestyle (specifically turnout conditions) and their geographical proximity to chemicals (pesticides, airborne neurotoxins, and water contaminants).
