Comparison Of Carcass Characteristics, Meat Quality, And Fatty Acid Composition In Slowand Fast-Growing Broilers At Different Slaughter Weights, Büşra Yaranoğlu, Hi̇lal Çapar Akyüz, Esi̇n Ebru Onbaşilar

This study aimed to compare the slaughter, meat quality characteristics, and fatty acid composition of fast-growing (FAG) and slow-growing (SWG) broilers at different slaughter weights. In the experiments, a total of 90 carcasses were used: 45 SWG (Hubbard-Isa Red JA) and 45 FAG broilers (Ross 308) with 15 carcasses from each slaughter weight group (1500 ± 50 g, 2000 ± 50 g, 2500 ± 50 g). Hot carcass yield and cold carcass yield detected in the FAG broilers were higher than in SGW broilers (p < 0.001). As the weight of slaughter increased, hot carcass and cold carcass yield increased (p < 0.001). The breast percentage was significantly lower in the SWG broilers compared to the FAG broilers (p < 0.001). In contrast, thigh, wing, and abdominal fat percentages were higher in the SWG broilers (p < 0.001). The breast percentage increased as the slaughter weight increased (p < 0.001). SWG broilers had significantly lower pH, except for the pH 24 of the thigh meat (p < 0.01). The L*, a*, and b* values of the SWG broilers were lower than the FAG broilers (p < 0.01). In terms of a* values determined initially and at the 24th h in the breast and thigh meat, the 1500 g slaughter weight group had by far the highest value (p < 0.01). SWG broilers had significantly lower values in terms of cooking loss, water-holding capacity, and drip loss (p < 0.001). C18:2ω6 was detected at higher amounts in the FAG broilers (p < 0.05). The FAG broilers had higher PUFA, desired fatty acids, PUFA/SFA, and thrombogenic index values (p < 0.05). The results show that FAG broilers can meet the strong worldwide demand for meat quantity and quality. Slaughter weight changes only affected the quantity of the meat.

Testicular dysfunction, a severe secondary complication of diabetes, negatively affects reproductive health. Ghrelin is a peptide that plays a role in many metabolic events, such as stimulating growth hormones and regulating appetite, blood pressure, and reproduction. Metformin has antiinflammatory and antioxidant properties and is widely used to treat type 2 diabetes. This study aimed to evaluate quantitative and morphometric analyses of preantral follicles and the ultrastructural characteristics of antral follicles in different oestrous cycle stages in Anatolian water buffaloes. Twenty-four ovaries collected from twelve slaughtered Anatolian water buffaloes were classified macroscopically as luteal or follicular stages. The ovaries were prepared for histological examination (Hematoxylin-eosin staining), and primordial, primary, and secondary follicle numbers were calculated, and the diameters of oocytes, follicles, and nuclei were measured under a light microscope with a micrometre. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of various mixtures of different litter materials containing wood shaving and barley straw on body weight gain, feed consumption, feed efficiency, carcass yield, antioxidant state, litter quality, and coccidio oocysts in broilers rearing. This study investigated a timeline of changes in the immunoreactivity of infiltrating macrophages during gastric ulcer healing. To this end, gastric tissue samples were obtained from an acetic acid-induced gastric ulcer model in rats on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, and 14th days of ulcer induction. Ulcerated gastric tissues were subjected to histologic and immunohistochemical evaluations for macrophage subtypes. The number of Iba-1+ macrophages in the gastric ulcer area significantly increased on day 3, reaching a maximum number on day 7, followed by a decrease on day 14. Arum rupicola Boiss var. rupicola is a preferred ingredient in traditional medicine in various countries, including Türkiye. The current study aims to establish the antiparasitic effect of A. rupicola Boiss var. rupicola on the eggs and larvae of T. canis in vitro. An ovicidal effect was not detected in the plant extracts, and embryogenesis in the T. canis eggs was not affected by the leaves' ethanolic extract and the distilled water extract of the rhizome during the incubation periods (6, 12, and 24 h). BACKGROUND: Beta-hemolytic streptococci involving the upper respiratory tract cause strangles and strangles-like diseases in horses and cause severe economic damage to the equestrian club each year. Therefore, careful epidemiological study of these bacteria, evaluation of phylogenetic connections and SeM-typing can be useful to determine the source and epidemiological characteristics of the disease outbreak. Waterfowl infected with avian influenza A viruses (IAVs) shed infectious virus into aquatic environments, providing a mechanism for transmission among waterfowl, while also exposing the entire aquatic ecosystem to the virus. Aquatic invertebrates such as freshwater snails are likely exposed to IAVs in the water column and sediment. Freshwater snails comprise a significant portion of some waterfowl species’ diets, so this trophic interaction may serve as a novel route of IAV transmission. Highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs) of the A/goose/Guangdong/1/1996 lineage H5 clade 2.3.4.4b continue to have a devastating effect on domestic and wild birds. Full genome sequence analyses using 1369 H5N1 HPAIVs detected in the United States (U.S.) in wild birds, commercial poultry, and backyard flocks from December 2021 to April 2022, showed three phylogenetically distinct H5N1 virus introductions in the U.S. by wild birds. Unreassorted Eurasian genotypes A1 and A2 entered the Northeast Atlantic states, whereas a genetically distinct A3 genotype was detected in Alaska. OBJECTIVE
Current cystotomy methods often implement the use of off-label devices, resulting in urocystolith extraction difficulty and potentially leading to postoperative complications and discomfort for the patient. The objective of this study was to create 3 novel 3-D printed cystotomy spoons that offer a dedicated solution for removing urocystoliths from a patient's urinary bladder.
ANIMALS
Clinical use of the 3 novel 3-D printed cystotomy spoons were ultimately evaluated in 4 dogs and 1 cat that presented for urocystotlith removal at 3 different veterinary hospitals in northwest Arkansas.

BACKGROUND: Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a high impact viral disease of livestock for which vaccines are extensively used for limiting the spread of infection. Armenia shares a border with both Turkey and Iran where FMD is endemic, making vaccination an important component of Armenia's control strategy. Additionally, Armenian veterinary services utilize both passive and active monitoring for prevention control.

Avian Influenza (AI) is one of the strategic animal diseases still considered a priority for control by the Indonesian government. This study aimed to examine the immune response of chickens to various types of H5N1 subtype AI vaccines in Indonesia and to determine the correlation of factors influencing the post-vaccination AI antibody response. Serum samples were tested using the hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test with the standard AI antigen subtype H5N1 strain A/Chicken/Barru/BBVM/41-13/2013 (Clade 2.1.3) and strain A/Chicken/Semarang/04141225-07/2014 (Clade 2.3.2). Myocarditis is a predominant cause of congestive heart failure and sudden death in children and young adolescents that can lead to dilated cardiomyopathy. Lymphocytic myocarditis mediated by T cells can result from the recognition of cardiac antigens that may involve CD4 or CD8 T cells or both. The aim of the current study was to (i) extract isolated fractions of watercress flowers enriched in polyphenols, phenethyl isothiocyanate and glucosinolates and (ii) characterize the anticancer mode of action of non-lethal, sub-lethal and lethal concentrations of the most potent extract fraction in primary (A375) and metastatic (COLO-679) melanoma cells as well as non-tumorigenic immortalized keratinocyte (HaCaT) cells. Cytotoxicity was assessed via the Alamar Blue assay, whereas ultrastructural alterations in mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum were determined via transmission electron microscopy. (1) Background: Color changes, physical degradation, and fungal infections are challenges to the longevity of maxillofacial polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) elastomers. This study aimed to evaluate color changes, physical properties, and antifungal properties of PDMS loaded with ZrO2 and TiO2 submicron- and nano-sized particles. (2) Methods: A 1% weight of 40 nm or 200 nm diameter ZrO2 or TiO2 nanoparticles was mixed into PDMS with 2% functional intrinsic yellow pigment and polymerized. Clade 2.3.4.4b highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5N1) viruses that are responsible for devastating outbreaks in birds and mammals pose a potential threat to public health. Here, we evaluated their susceptibility to influenza antivirals. Of 1,015 sequences of HPAI A(H5N1) viruses collected in the United States during 2022, eight viruses (∼0.8%) had a molecular marker of drug resistance to an FDA-approved antiviral: three adamantane-resistant (M2-V27A), four oseltamivir-resistant (NA-H275Y), and one baloxavir-resistant (PA-I38T). Additionally, 31 viruses contained mutations that may reduce susceptibility to inhibitors of neuraminidase (NA) (n = 20) or cap-dependent endonuclease (CEN) (n = 11). A panel of 22 …

Animal hoarding and human consumption by dogs have been important but often understudied aspects of the human-animal bond that can be addressed within a One Health framework. No scientific report has focused on dog scavenging on animal hoarders to date, despite isolated reports of dog scavenging on human remains, mostly due to starvation. The phenomenon has been approached as a confounding factor for human forensics. Equine glandular gastric disease (EGGD) is a common disease of athletic horses that can affect performance and welfare. Clinical signs are non-specific and diagnosis is made using gastroscopy after a prolonged fasting period. The aim of this study is to identify and summarize the evidence and risk factors of canine inguinal hernia containing the uterus (Inguinal Hysterocele; IH) etiology by presenting our clinical experience with a literature review. A total of 18 canine IH cases were evaluated in the study. Of these, four have not yet been published anywhere, two have been published before, and 12 were obtained through a literature review. Black Soldier Fly (BSF) is an alternative ingredient for Fish Meal (FM) which is expected to reduce aquaculture operational costs and positively impact fish growth and health. The effect of BSF fresh meal on growth response, digestibility, intestinal hematology, and intestinal histology of cork fish was investigated. The BSF experiment with mixed percentages as treatments, by 20%, 50%, 80%, and 100%, was repeated four times. Furthermore, there were 50 individuals/m3 cork fish with an average weight of 1.6 ± 0.05 g distributed in each treatment. The aim of the study was to identify the bacterial profile and antimicrobial susceptibility from surgical site cultures in queens and bitches undergoing ovariohysterectomy via ventral midline and lateral flank approaches. Healthy 22 queens and 21 bitches were assigned randomly either ventral midline or lateral flank approach for routine ovariohysterectomy. Surgical site samples were collected before the surgery and on the 1$^{st}$, 2$^{nd}$ , and 3 $^{rd}$days after the surgery for microbiological analysis. Mastitis is a contagious disease that causes significant milk loss and serious economic damage in dairy animals. Streptococcus agalactiae causes clinical and subclinical mastitis in animals and infections in humans, especially adults, and newborns. This study aimed to confirm the identification of S. agalactiae isolates by PCR in buffalo milk; to determine the antibiotic resistance and virulence genes by multiplex PCR. In this study, it was aimed to stereologically examine the medulla oblongata volume of Norduz sheep in the Gürpınar District of Van Province. Upon receiving news from the sections in the Gürpınar region, we went to the region. A total of 12 Norduz sheep skulls, 6 females and 6 males, were received from the Norduz sheep slaughter in the region. The aim of the research was to investigate the effects of different stocking densities on fattening performance, slaughter, carcass, meat quality characteristics, and fatty acid composition in New Zealand rabbits raised in cage conditions and also determine the ideal housing frequency so that yields were not adversely affected. The First Data Of A Newly Recorded Native Goat Genotype Called Manavlı In Türkiye: Growth Traits Of Kids, Aykut Asim Akbaş, Mustafa Saatci, Özkan Elmaz, Can Meti̇n Yazici

This study aimed to define growth traits of kids named Manavlı goat from six flocks under the breeder?s conditions in Denizli Province. The average birth weights of the kids were 3.63 kg, 4.28 kg, 3.85 kg, 4.11 kg, 3.83 kg, and 3.64 kg for the six flocks, respectively. The average live weights of male and female kids on 60th, 90th, and 150th day of age were 16.50 kg, 22.35 kg, and 34.82 kg and 15.33 kg, 20.14 kg, and 32.06 kg, respectively (p < 0.05). While the average live weights of single kids on 60th, 90th were 16.70 kg and 21.96 kg, the values for twins were 15.13 kg and 21.03 kg, respectively (p < 0.05). Body measurements of male kids such as height at withers, rump height, rump width, body length, heart girth, head length, ear length, tail length, and front and back wrist girth were measured as 70.26 cm, 70.21 cm, 16.23 cm, 66.80 cm, 70.11 cm, 19.51 cm, 22.16 cm, 18.59 cm, 11.85 cm, and 11.57 cm, respectively, on the 150th day of age. This study is the first research related to growth traits of Manavlı kids, for which no features have been reported to date. It was thought that the results obtained will help to characterise the Manavlı goat and will provide a database for the following studies.
