Successful Treatment Of Demodicosis Due To Demodex Cati In A Cat Using Spot – On Formulation Of Fluralaner, Piyarat Chansiripornchai, Niwat Chansiripornchai

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

This case report describes the successful use of fluralaner in treating demodicosis caused by Demodex cati in a cat. A 4.2 kg 10 – year – old spayed female Siamese short – haired cat was presented with a 5 – month history of severe dermatitis. The cat had been treated at previous animal hospitals with a variety of drugs such as antimicrobials, glucocorticoids and ectoparasiticides on separate occasions but the clinical signs remained severe. Microscopic examination of skin samples revealed the presence of D. cati. The cat was treated with a single dose of spot – on formulation of fluralaner …

Diagnostic imaging techniques, especially radiography and ultrasonography, have been applied as routine diagnostic tools in clinical practice of both human and veterinary medicine. Soft embalmed cadavers by Thiel’s method is a new method for preserving dead bodies that has been increasingly used in medical education especially in diagnostic imaging fields. The aims of this study were, first, to examine the feasibility of using canine and feline soft cadavers in radiographic and ultrasonographic study and training. Second, to evaluate the procedure score and image quality score of radiography and ultrasonography using the soft cadaver dogs and cats as the model. All …

Left Lateral Liver Lobe Torsion In A Siamese Cat, Dongwook Kim, Ki-Jeong Na, Dongwoo Chang, Gonhyung Kim

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A 6-year-old neutered male Siamese cat was presented with an acute onset of vomiting, anorexia and lethargy lasting for four days. An abdominal mass was palpated on physical examination. The cat showed severe anemia, elevated liver enzymes and hypoalbuminemia. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a suspected hepatic mass without blood flow within the affected region. Computed tomography was performed to better visualize the abdominal cavity and blood flow. Prompt diagnosis of torsion of the left lateral liver lobe was made and immediate surgery for liver lobectomy was performed. Histopathological examination revealed no evidence of neoplasia. The cat remained clinically normal during the …

Analysis Of Gaps In Feline Ectoparasiticide Purchases From Veterinary Clinics In The United States, Robert Lavan, Dorothy Normile, Imran Husain, Amita Singh, Kathleen Heaney

Publications and Research

Background: The study objective was to examine cat owner ectoparasiticide purchases in the United States and estimate the impact of purchase gaps on timely ectoparasite protection administration. These purchase gaps lead to periods of time when cats are unprotected from ectoparasites.

Methods: Ectoparasiticide purchase transactions for individual cats from 671 U.S. veterinary clinics from January 1, 2017 through June 30, 2019 were evaluated to determine time “gaps” between doses of ectoparasiticides purchased in a defined 12-month period. Ectoparasiticides examined were topically applied products that contained fluralaner, fipronil/(S)-methoprene/pyriproxyfen, imidacloprid/pyriproxyfen or selamectin as active ingredients. The duration of protection following administration of …

In Vitro Investigation On Extracellular Traps Formation Of Cat Polymorphonuclearleucocytes Against Toxoplasma Gondii, Nesli̇han Sürsal Şi̇mşek, Ayşe Çakmak, Kader Yildiz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Neutrophil granulocytes are one of the most important defenders of the innate immune system in the host. Moreover, neutrophils are able to reach the inflammation area and kill the pathogens using various defense strategies including neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). However, there is still not enough information available regarding the innate immunity against Toxoplasma gondii in cats that are both definitive and intermediate hosts of this parasite. Therefore, we investigated the in vitro NETs formation which is induced by cat polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMNs) against T. gondii tachyzoites. Firstly, PMNs were isolated from cat venous blood samples by using discontinues Percoll dilutions …
