Pathological and immunohistochemical changes in livers were investigated in monocrotaline-treated rats. Eighty adult-male Wistar rats were distributed in 5 groups, each containing 16 animals according to monocrotaline dose (Group I: 50 mg/kg, Group II: 100 mg/kg, Group III: 150 mg/kg, and Group IV: 200 mg/kg). The control group was administered with physiological saline. Half of the animals in each group were euthanized at the 18th hour while the remaining half at the 6th week postinoculation. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of metabolic syndrome on spermatozoon morphology and histological, histochemical, histomorphometric changes in the testes. Twenty-four male Sprague Dawley rats (60 day-olds) were used for this purpose. The rats in the control group were fed only water and rat food, while the rats in the experimental group were fed with water containing 20% D-fructose and rats food for 16 weeks with ad libitum. This study was aimed to evaluated chemical sterilization using an intra-testicular injection of mannitol 20% in rats. Fifty male Wistar rats were divided into five groups, including 1) intact, 2) surgical castration and, 3 to 5) intra-testicular injections of normal saline, hypertonic saline, and mannitol, respectively. The baseline testosterone levels were measured. Surgical castration was performed in group 2. Intra-testicular injections were performed in groups 3, 4, and 5. The main aim of the present study was to examine the neurotoxic effects of prenatal exposure to varying doses of diclofenac sodium (DS) on the rat hippocampus. Twenty-eight Wistar albino adult female rats weighing 280-300 g were initially used for pregnancy. When vaginal plaques were seen in female rats, it was accepted as the 0th day of pregnancy. The present study evaluated the expression of secretory proteins involving surfactant proteins (SP-A, SP-B, proSP-C), Clara cell secretory protein (CCSP), and thyroid transcription factor-I (TTF-I), together with lambda light chain IgG (λ-IgG), proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and lymphocytic phenotypes (T and B cells) in the pneumonic rat lungs. The most prominent gross lesion was severe pulmonary abscession. The lungs showed severe parenchymal destruction and necrosis encapsulated by fibrous tissue. Previous studies have shown that the electromagnetic field (EMF) emitted by cell phones decreased the number of neurons in some parts of the brain. It was also shown that caffeine protects the nerve cells. This study examines if caffeine has any effects on preventing neuron loss in rats exposed to EMF. Cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2) has a role in the pathology of some liver diseases. Cypermethrin (CYP) is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide used commonly for the control of pests and vectors, and for protection of foodstuffs. In this study, the involvement of CB2 in CYP-induced liver damage in rats was investigated. CYP was applied to rats orally at a dose of 125 mg/kg bw per day for 14 days. The effect of ketamine, a drug commonly used as an anesthetic, on monoaminergic neurotransmitters and GABA in neurocytes from fetal rats has not yet been elucidated. We thus decided to investigate these effects by first evaluating ketamine levels in the cerebrospinal fluid by high-performance liquid chromatography. We thus determined the concentrations of GABA, DA, NE, 5-HT, and 5-HIAA following the addition of four different concentrations of ketamine at day 7 of nerve cell culture. Fucoidans of two species of Padina (P. tetrastromatica and P. boergesenii), collected from the Persian Gulf northern coastal area, were extracted and analyzed using high-performance anion-exchange chromatography. This study was carried out to determine the effects of phenobarbital, administered orally and intraperitoneally over different periods, on paraoxonase, arylesterase, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activities and total protein levels in the serum and liver. Thirty-six rats, 16-18 weeks old and weighing 240-260 g, were used. Phenobarbital was applied both orally and intraperitoneally at a dose of 100 mg/kg. In this paper, a simple and rapid method for the purification of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase from rat erythrocytes together with an analysis of the kinetic behavior and some properties of the enzyme are considered. The purification steps comprised high-speed centrifugation, 20-50% ammonium sulfate precipitation and 2', 5'-ADP Sepharose 4B affinity gel chromatography. The yield was 78.4% and the specific enzyme activity was 5.15 EU/mg proteins. The rat brachial plexus was studied morphologically and the average numbers of the fascicles were studied by light microscope. This study was conducted to evaluate the pharmacologic effects of Polygonum lapathifolium L. (Polygonaceae), growing naturally in Turkey. The antiinflammatory activity of the ethanol extract of the root and rhizome of P. lapathifolium was evaluated using carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. Intraperitoneal pretreatment with extract at doses ranging from 100 to 500 mg/kg significantly inhibited the acute phase of this experimental model of the inflammatory process in a dose-dependent manner. At maximal dose (500 mg/kg), it exhibited a significantly higher action when compared with those of other doses and was found to be 1.08 times as active as indomethacin. The …

The presence and distribution of Griffonia SimplicifoliaI-B4 (GSA I-B4) and Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide (CGRP) were studied in the nodose ganglion (NG) (inferior ganglion of the vagus nerve), sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) and superior cervical ganglion (SCG) of the rat. GSA I-B4 labeling was found in all ganglia tested. Neither SPG nor SCG cell bodies stained with CGRP were undetectable. The pattern of the distribution of GSA I-B4 and CGRP labeled cells were quite similar in the nodose ganglion. They were found in the poles of the ganglion with some marginal labeling.
