This study assessed the effect of thermo-insulated kid hutch (TIKH) on location preference, body surface temperature, growth performance, and blood haemato-biochemical indices of winter-born Black Bengal goat kids. Does were maintained in the same shed, born kids (n = 12) were divided into two groups along with mothers to begin experiments from day 1 of birth. The treatment group (TIKH) of kids was given a TIKH to which kids had free access, but not the adults. However, in the control group (CONT) kids were reared without TIKH. The floor surface temperature of TIKH was significantly (p < 0.05) higher at night as compared to goat shed in December (4.28%), January (3.98%), and February (7.72%). The interior roof surface of TIKH had 25.12%, 33.55%, 31.85%, 10.99%, and 4.37% higher (p < 0.01) temperatures at night compared to the roof surface temperature of the goat shed in December, January, February, March, and April, respectively. The presence of kids inside the TIKH at the age of 1–15 days was the greatest in morning (80.5%) and evening (72.2%). Between the ages of 16–-60 days, the preference of kids for the TIKH varied from 69.2% to 54.2% in the morning and from 70.0% to 66.7% in the evening. However, at the age of 61–75 days, kids’ preference for TIKH gradually declined in the morning (11.6%) and evening (19.9%) due to the increased inside temperature. Kids weaning weight was 23.25% higher (p < 0.05) in the TIKH group as compared to that of CONT. The average daily gain (0–30 days) was higher (41.34%; p < 0.05) in kids in the TIKH compared to the CONT shed. The haemato-biochemical profiles of kids were similar in both groups except for blood serum glucose, which was greater (p < 0.05) in kids of the TIKH than that of CONT shed. In conclusion, the provision of TIKH improved the growth and overall performance of winter-born Black Bengal goat kids during pre and postweaning periods.

Proventricular dilatation disease (PDD) is a potentially fatal disease of psittacine birds. Avian bornavirus (ABV), the causative agent of PDD, causes inflammation of the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems. Clinically, birds affected by PDD present with gastrointestinal tract dysfunction, neurological symptoms, or both. Canine parvovirus-2 (CPV-2), which is common worldwide, is a highly contagious pathogen in domestic dogs and some wild carnivore species. The agent causes a multisystemic infection in affected animals, especially acute hemorrhagic enteritis and fatal myocarditis in puppies. Horses that perform constant physical activity related to sport or work are subject to musculoskeletal disorders. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of a functional training program to promote physical conditions (epaxial musculature biometry and linear kinematics) and behavior traits in patrol horses. This study was carried out to determine the quality of sugar beet pulp (Beta vulgaris L.), lenox (Brassica rapa L.), and ryegrass (Lolium multiflorium cv. caramba) silages used in feeding dairy cattle, in comparison to corn silage. Whole corn was harvested at the dough stage, lenox was harvested at the end of flowering, and ryegrass was harvested at the beginning of spike. Cholesterol deficiency (CD) is a metabolic disorder first recognized in Holstein cattle in 2015. The condition is characterized by chronic diarrhea and unthriftiness in calves being homozygous for the defective allele. Comparison Of Carcass Characteristics, Meat Quality, And Fatty Acid Composition In Slowand Fast-Growing Broilers At Different Slaughter Weights, Büşra Yaranoğlu, Hi̇lal Çapar Akyüz, Esi̇n Ebru Onbaşilar

This study aimed to compare the slaughter, meat quality characteristics, and fatty acid composition of fast-growing (FAG) and slow-growing (SWG) broilers at different slaughter weights. In the experiments, a total of 90 carcasses were used: 45 SWG (Hubbard-Isa Red JA) and 45 FAG broilers (Ross 308) with 15 carcasses from each slaughter weight group (1500 ± 50 g, 2000 ± 50 g, 2500 ± 50 g). Hot carcass yield and cold carcass yield detected in the FAG broilers were higher than in SGW broilers (p < 0.001). As the weight of slaughter increased, hot carcass and cold carcass yield increased (p < 0.001). The breast percentage was significantly lower in the SWG broilers compared to the FAG broilers (p < 0.001). In contrast, thigh, wing, and abdominal fat percentages were higher in the SWG broilers (p < 0.001). The breast percentage increased as the slaughter weight increased (p < 0.001). SWG broilers had significantly lower pH, except for the pH 24 of the thigh meat (p < 0.01). The L*, a*, and b* values of the SWG broilers were lower than the FAG broilers (p < 0.01). In terms of a* values determined initially and at the 24th h in the breast and thigh meat, the 1500 g slaughter weight group had by far the highest value (p < 0.01). SWG broilers had significantly lower values in terms of cooking loss, water-holding capacity, and drip loss (p < 0.001). C18:2ω6 was detected at higher amounts in the FAG broilers (p < 0.05). The FAG broilers had higher PUFA, desired fatty acids, PUFA/SFA, and thrombogenic index values (p < 0.05). The results show that FAG broilers can meet the strong worldwide demand for meat quantity and quality. Slaughter weight changes only affected the quantity of the meat.

This study aimed to evaluate quantitative and morphometric analyses of preantral follicles and the ultrastructural characteristics of antral follicles in different oestrous cycle stages in Anatolian water buffaloes. Twenty-four ovaries collected from twelve slaughtered Anatolian water buffaloes were classified macroscopically as luteal or follicular stages. The ovaries were prepared for histological examination (Hematoxylin-eosin staining), and primordial, primary, and secondary follicle numbers were calculated, and the diameters of oocytes, follicles, and nuclei were measured under a light microscope with a micrometre. This study investigated a timeline of changes in the immunoreactivity of infiltrating macrophages during gastric ulcer healing. To this end, gastric tissue samples were obtained from an acetic acid-induced gastric ulcer model in rats on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, and 14th days of ulcer induction. Ulcerated gastric tissues were subjected to histologic and immunohistochemical evaluations for macrophage subtypes. The number of Iba-1+ macrophages in the gastric ulcer area significantly increased on day 3, reaching a maximum number on day 7, followed by a decrease on day 14. Arum rupicola Boiss var. rupicola is a preferred ingredient in traditional medicine in various countries, including Türkiye. The current study aims to establish the antiparasitic effect of A. rupicola Boiss var. rupicola on the eggs and larvae of T. canis in vitro. An ovicidal effect was not detected in the plant extracts, and embryogenesis in the T. canis eggs was not affected by the leaves' ethanolic extract and the distilled water extract of the rhizome during the incubation periods (6, 12, and 24 h). The aim of the research was to investigate the effects of different stocking densities on fattening performance, slaughter, carcass, meat quality characteristics, and fatty acid composition in New Zealand rabbits raised in cage conditions and also determine the ideal housing frequency so that yields were not adversely affected. The aim of this study is to identify and summarize the evidence and risk factors of canine inguinal hernia containing the uterus (Inguinal Hysterocele; IH) etiology by presenting our clinical experience with a literature review. A total of 18 canine IH cases were evaluated in the study. Of these, four have not yet been published anywhere, two have been published before, and 12 were obtained through a literature review. The aim of the study was to identify the bacterial profile and antimicrobial susceptibility from surgical site cultures in queens and bitches undergoing ovariohysterectomy via ventral midline and lateral flank approaches. Healthy 22 queens and 21 bitches were assigned randomly either ventral midline or lateral flank approach for routine ovariohysterectomy. Surgical site samples were collected before the surgery and on the 1$^{st}$, 2$^{nd}$ , and 3 $^{rd}$days after the surgery for microbiological analysis. The First Data Of A Newly Recorded Native Goat Genotype Called Manavlı In Türkiye: Growth Traits Of Kids, Aykut Asim Akbaş, Mustafa Saatci, Özkan Elmaz, Can Meti̇n Yazici

This study aimed to define growth traits of kids named Manavlı goat from six flocks under the breeder?s conditions in Denizli Province. The average birth weights of the kids were 3.63 kg, 4.28 kg, 3.85 kg, 4.11 kg, 3.83 kg, and 3.64 kg for the six flocks, respectively. The average live weights of male and female kids on 60th, 90th, and 150th day of age were 16.50 kg, 22.35 kg, and 34.82 kg and 15.33 kg, 20.14 kg, and 32.06 kg, respectively (p < 0.05). While the average live weights of single kids on 60th, 90th were 16.70 kg and 21.96 kg, the values for twins were 15.13 kg and 21.03 kg, respectively (p < 0.05). Body measurements of male kids such as height at withers, rump height, rump width, body length, heart girth, head length, ear length, tail length, and front and back wrist girth were measured as 70.26 cm, 70.21 cm, 16.23 cm, 66.80 cm, 70.11 cm, 19.51 cm, 22.16 cm, 18.59 cm, 11.85 cm, and 11.57 cm, respectively, on the 150th day of age. This study is the first research related to growth traits of Manavlı kids, for which no features have been reported to date. It was thought that the results obtained will help to characterise the Manavlı goat and will provide a database for the following studies.

Black Soldier Fly (BSF) is an alternative ingredient for Fish Meal (FM) which is expected to reduce aquaculture operational costs and positively impact fish growth and health. The effect of BSF fresh meal on growth response, digestibility, intestinal hematology, and intestinal histology of cork fish was investigated. The BSF experiment with mixed percentages as treatments, by 20%, 50%, 80%, and 100%, was repeated four times. In this study, it was aimed to stereologically examine the medulla oblongata volume of Norduz sheep in the Gürpınar District of Van Province. Upon receiving news from the sections in the Gürpınar region, we went to the region. A total of 12 Norduz sheep skulls, 6 females and 6 males, were received from the Norduz sheep slaughter in the region. Splenic siderofibrotic nodules (SFNs) are benign tiny yellow-brownish foci found in dogs. Their pathogenesis is unclear whereas trauma and hemorrhage are assumed to be the possible causative factors. The spleen of 73 Iranian dogs of the mixed breed was examined for possible splenomegaly with SFNs. Ultrasonography, blood biochemistry, pathology, and immunohistochemistry revealed splenomegaly (n = 7), splenomegaly with SFNs (n = 6) and normal spleens (n = 60). There was no significant difference between the prevalence of splenomegaly with SFN among the examined dogs and their age or sex (p > 0.05). Influence Of Temperature-Humidity Index, Calf Sex, And Parity On Gestation Length In Holstein Cows, Lazoumi Ouarfli, Abdelmadjid Chehma

The present study aimed to analyse the gestation length (GL) variability in locally born purebred Holstein dams (n = 1047), in a private farm, under Saharan climate. The overall GL mean was 278.73 ± 6.67 days. A general linear model revealed that the GL was significantly affected by calf sex (p = 0.035) with a minor increase of 0.19% in males, dam parity (p = 0.016) and calving season (p < 0.0001) including the shortest lengths recorded in heifers and during heat stress period. Moreover, a negative regression (-1.96%) in recent years was recorded in GL by the influence (p = 0.01) of years of birth, breeding, and calving of cows. Our findings show that cows that were inseminated and gave birth during the cold season (temperature-humidity index, THI < 74) had 11.54 days longer (p = 0.048) gestation period compared to animals that were inseminated and gave birth during the hot season (THI > 84). Similarly, the association (p = 0.003) between dam parity and calf sex revealed that the GL of multiparous cows that gave birth to male calves was higher (3.07 days) …
