The Effects Of Complex Elastic Band Training On Physical Fitness Components In Junior Female Handball Players, Mehrez Hammami, Ryland Morgans, Piotr Zmijewski

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Introduction: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of a 10-week complex elastic band training (CEBT) program on athletic performance in junior female handball players. Methods: Participants (16.2 ± 0.5 years) were randomly assigned to an intervention group (IG; n = 16) or control group (CG; n = 14). The IG group performed CEBT twice a week during the 10-week intervention, which included eight 35-minute sessions, progressing in number of sets and band resistance for each specific exercise. The CG maintained regular in-season training. The modified T-test (T-half), squat jump (SJ), countermovement jump (CMJ), standing long jump …

Methodological Characteristics, Physiological And Physical Effects, And Future Directions For Velocity-Based Training In Soccer: A Systematic Review, Jorge Ribeiro, José Afonso, Miguel Camões, Hugo Sarmento, Mário Sá, Ricardo Lima, Filipe Manuel Clemente Sep 2022

Methodological Characteristics, Physiological And Physical Effects, And Future Directions For Velocity-Based Training In Soccer: A Systematic Review, Jorge Ribeiro, José Afonso, Miguel Camões, Hugo Sarmento, Mário Sá, Ricardo Lima, Filipe Manuel Clemente

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Introduction. This systematic review was conducted to (1) characterize the main elements of studies of velocity-based training (VBT) (e.g., training protocols) conducted in soccer, (2) summarize the main physiological and physical effects of VBT on soccer players, and (3) provide future directions for research. Methods: A systematic review of Cochrane Library, EBSCO, PubMed, Scielo, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science databases was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Results: The database search initially identified 127 titles. Of those, five articles were deemed eligible for the systematic review, two studies used a traditional …

An Assessment Of Isometric Muscle Strength And The Hamstring: Quadriceps Ratio Among Males Trained With Free Weights Vs. Machines, Geferson Honorato Da Silva, Alex Souto Maior Jul 2022

An Assessment Of Isometric Muscle Strength And The Hamstring: Quadriceps Ratio Among Males Trained With Free Weights Vs. Machines, Geferson Honorato Da Silva, Alex Souto Maior

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Introduction. The purpose of this study was to assess the isometric muscle strength (IMS) of the knee extensors and flexors, bilateral asymmetry (BA) and the hamstring: quadriceps ratio (H:Q ratio) between the dominant leg (DL) vs. the non-dominant leg (NDL) of males trained with free-weights vs. machines. Material and Methods: Thirty males were recruited and separated into two groups: Free-weights (n = 15) and Machines (n = 15) groups. All study participants performed the IMS testing for knee extensors and flexors in the DL and NDL using a commercially available load cell. The highest value obtained from the three trials …

An Interaction Between Exercise Order And Rest Interval During Lower-Body Resistance Exercise, Hamid Arazi, Bahman Mirzaei, Morteza Sangdevini, Mohammad Reza Hossein Abadi Mar 2022

An Interaction Between Exercise Order And Rest Interval During Lower-Body Resistance Exercise, Hamid Arazi, Bahman Mirzaei, Morteza Sangdevini, Mohammad Reza Hossein Abadi

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The purpose of the present study was to compare the influence of two- and five-minute rest intervals on the number of repetitions per set and total repetitions per exercise for a lower-body workout performed in 2 different sequences. Material/Methods: 12 resistance trained men completed 4 experimental resistance exercise sessions. All sessions consisted of 3 sets with a 10-repetition maximum load for 4 lower-body exercises. Two different exercise sequences (i.e., A or B) were performed with either 2- or 5- minute rest between the sets and the exercises, respectively. The order of exercises for sequence A2 (SEQA2) and sequence A5 …

The Effects Of Whey Protein Supplementation On Performance And Hormonal Adaptations Following Resistance Training In Novice Men, Hamid Arazi, Mehdi Hakimi, Kako Hoseini Mar 2022

The Effects Of Whey Protein Supplementation On Performance And Hormonal Adaptations Following Resistance Training In Novice Men, Hamid Arazi, Mehdi Hakimi, Kako Hoseini

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of whey protein supplementation on performance and hormonal changes during an 8-week resistance training program in novice weight trained men. Material/Methods: Forty recreational weight trained men were randomly divided into a whey protein supplementation (WP) group (n=20), and a placebo (PL) group (n=20). Each group was given either whey protein or a placebo in a double-blind manner to be taken orally for eight weeks (1.8g/kg/day). WP and PL groups performed the same weight training program 3 days, each week for 8 weeks. The training consisted of 3 sets of …

The Effect Of Linear And Daily Undulating Periodized Resistance Training On The Neuromuscular Function And The Maximal Quadriceps Strength, Nasrin Abdi, Mohammad Reza Hamedinia, Zahra Izanloo, Nosratollah Hedayatpour Mar 2022

The Effect Of Linear And Daily Undulating Periodized Resistance Training On The Neuromuscular Function And The Maximal Quadriceps Strength, Nasrin Abdi, Mohammad Reza Hamedinia, Zahra Izanloo, Nosratollah Hedayatpour

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: ‪The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 9 weeks’ resistance training utilizing a daily undulating periodization (DUP) program versus a linear periodization (LP) program on concentric and isometric muscle strength and neuromuscular function of the quadriceps muscle. Material and methods: ‪30 male subjects (age = 21.7 ±2.5 yr, body mass = 71.4 ±11.9 kg, height =1.77 ±0.09 m) participated in the study. Subjects were randomly divided into DUP and LP training groups. Both the DUP and LP training group performed leg press exercise 3 times per week. Volume and intensity were equated for each training …
