Acute Effects Of Match Play Induced Fatigue On Jump Performance In Collegiate Women's Volleyball, Grayson Flora Aug 2022

Acute Effects Of Match Play Induced Fatigue On Jump Performance In Collegiate Women's Volleyball, Grayson Flora

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study investigated changes in maximal jump performance in response to match play induced fatigue. During six sets of tournament match play, seven National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics women’s volleyball athletes accumulated a mean Player Load of 758.6±216.89 au (measured via microsensor accelerometry), and mean session rate of perceived exertion of 1184.1±363.2. Repeated measures ANOVAs were used to identify change with Hedge’s g effect sizes used to assess magnitude of change. Short recovery stress scale results indicated elevated stress (ES=1.401 to 1.588) and decreased recovery (ES = -1.358 to -1.848) 24 hours post-match, trending towards baseline 48 hours post-match. Countermovement …

The Impact Of A Division I Volleyball Season On Jumping Performance, Joshua R. Pascal Jan 2020

The Impact Of A Division I Volleyball Season On Jumping Performance, Joshua R. Pascal

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Previous research has been conducted on different performance metrics in collegiate athletes in various sports, including volleyball. These metrics include strength, speed, power output, and jump height. However, little research has examined changes in seasonal jumping performance in volleyball athletes on a weekly basis. Purpose: To examine how Division I Volleyball jumping performance is affected by a competitive season. Methods: 11 female volleyball athletes from one NCAA Division I institution wore VERT sensors during practices for the entire 15-week competitive season. The athletes also completed countermovement Jump Mat testing on the first practice of the week, with the exception of …

Changes In Vertical Jump Components Utilizing The Myvert Device In Female Collegiate D-1 Volleyball Players, Samantha Modrick Jan 2019

Changes In Vertical Jump Components Utilizing The Myvert Device In Female Collegiate D-1 Volleyball Players, Samantha Modrick

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine daily and weekly variations in vertical jump (VJ) volume and VJ height over the course of a season for female collegiate division 1 volleyball players using Vert® technology. Sixteen volleyball player’s external load was monitored through jump count, average VJ height, number of VJs completed over 20-inches, and the ratio of VJ height relative to maximum tested VJ height. The VJ parameters were compared between practices and games, and between the various position groups (outside hitters, middle blockers, libero/defensive specialist, setters). A large increase in jump count observed during pre-season, peaked at …

Tapering For Strength-Power Individual Event And Team Sport Athletes, Caleb Bazyler Aug 2016

Tapering For Strength-Power Individual Event And Team Sport Athletes, Caleb Bazyler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The overall purpose of this dissertation was to address mechanistic and performance changes following a peaking phase in individual event and team sport strength-power athletes. This purpose was addressed by conducting 4 separate investigations with track and field athletes, volleyball athletes, and a national level weightlifter. The following are the primary findings from these investigations. Division I collegiate throwers increased competition throwing performance, jumping performance, and preserved muscle architecture characteristics following an overreach and taper. There were moderate decreases in division I female collegiate volleyball athlete’s vastus lateralis muscle thickness with no statistical changes in jumping performance following a taper …
