Perceived Role Responsibilities Of Physical Therapists And Adapted Physical Educators In The Public School Setting, Mindy Blumenkopf, Pamela Levangie, David L. Nelson

All PTHMS Faculty Publications

Right to Education legislation has brought physical therapists and adapted physical educators together in the public school setting to serve the child with special needs. Investigation of the role responsibilities of these professionals would facilitate not only communication between the groups, but also understanding of their functions by other school personnel and administrators. We analyzed questionnaires returned by 79 physical therapists and 30 adapted physical educators to determine areas of uniqueness or similarity in 18 identified role responsibilities performed by these two groups. Each subject rated the appropriateness of each role to physical therapists and to adapted physical educators. On …

Translation Of The Tibia During Isometric Contraction Of The Quadriceps, Charles V. Connors Jan 1983

Translation Of The Tibia During Isometric Contraction Of The Quadriceps, Charles V. Connors

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine in normal knees, and in knees with anterior cruciate ligament absence, what effect maximal voluntary isometric contraction of the quadriceps has on translation of the tibia on the femur. Ten subjects with bilaterally normal knees, and nine subjects with one normal knee and the contralateral knee having an arthroscopic finding of absent anterior cruciate ligament were tested. Tibial translation was measured with a dial indicator at 15, 45 and 60 degrees of knee flexion. There was a measurable anterior translation of the tibia in all knees. An analysis of variance with post …

The Effect Of The Spray And Stretch Technique On The Silent Period Duration Of The Masseter Muscle, George W. Aaron Jr. Jan 1982

The Effect Of The Spray And Stretch Technique On The Silent Period Duration Of The Masseter Muscle, George W. Aaron Jr.

MUSC Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Fluori-Methane vapocoolant spray, as used in the spray and stretch technique, on decreasing a prolonged silent period duration in the masseter muscle. Ten subjects were selected, all of whom were identified as having masseter muscle dysfunction and/or spasm. The population consisted of two males and eight females, whose ages ranged from 24-58. The silent period duration of the masseter was measured following elicitation of the jaw-jerk reflex. Five readings were taken and the mean silent period duration was calculated. All means longer than 35 milliseconds were considered prolonged. An …
