The purpose of this case study is to determine the effect of diaphragmatic breathing and endurance exercise in hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP). Nosocomial pneumonia that occurs in 48 hours or more after the patient admitted to the hospital, without any signs of pulmonary infection. The existence of clinical manifestations that appear, patients with HAP tend to avoid physical activity which can decrease the functional capacity of the respiratory system and have an impact on decreasing endurance. Tibial stress fractures are a common overuse injury accounting for 21.9 – 69% of stress fractures among runners and 24 – 51.2% of stress fractures in military cadets. Current treatment involves wearing a walking boot for 3 – 12 weeks, which limits ankle motion and causes lower limb muscle atrophy. A Dynamic Ankle Orthosis (DAO) provided a distractive force that offloaded the ankle and retained sagittal ankle excursion during walking. Robotic-assisted gait training has been cited as a potential rehabilitation intervention for the recovery of ambulation in hemiplegic stroke patients. Previous reviews on robotic gait training have elicited a need for more randomized, clinical studies on robotic gait training for the development of evidence-based intervention protocols and elimination of research bias. Background: Following a transfemoral amputation (TFA), osteoarthritis (OA) on the sound limb may occur secondary to overuse. Potential causative factors include gait abnormalities, increased knee load, and performing hopping activities without a prosthesis. Unilateral TFA patients may require a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) to improve function.

Sand and Swim Leg, is addressing the clinical need of limited options for lower-limb amputees to participate in water activities. We will follow the FDA Medical Device Design Process throughout our two semester course. Initially, we created our team agreement and delegated team roles and responsibilities. Then, we conducted background research on the clinical need, competitive products, and existing patents. After compiling and discussing research amongst our team, we contacted stakeholders that would be affected by our product. Our stakeholders include our below-the-knee amputee client, an above-the-knee amputee, pediatric prosthetists, and our client’s prosthetists. We conducted interviews with our stakeholders …
