Health outcomes are multi-factorial. Health professionals must weigh all factors when making recommendations and providing intervention, however, limited learning materials which describe the health of minoritized populations exist for students in health science educational programs, necessitating the development of content for interprofessional learning that address the health factors experienced by underserved populations. This study used a descriptive design. Eleven expert content reviewers from eight health science and medical professions were recruited and provided feedback on the quality and content of a developed case study that described the lifestyle and health status of an individual from an ethnic minoritized population. Participants …

Tummy Time In Infancy: Real-World Assessments And Associations With Developmental Outcomes In Early Childhood, Ketaki Inamdar

Theses and Dissertations

Tummy time or awake, supervised, prone play is an important developmental play position in infancy. Engaging in more than 15 minutes of tummy time per day is associated with a lower risk of plagiocephaly, lower body mass index, and achievement of higher motor scores in full-term and at-risk preterm infants. However, there are significant gaps in the measurement of tummy time in current literature. Conventionally used subjective parent reports have not been validated against gold standard direct observation, and the feasibility and real-world validity of objective solutions such as wearable sensors has not been examined in full-term and at-risk preterm …

Development Of The Sexual Spring Planning Manual, Hannah Belle Aldridge

Occupational Therapy Doctoral Capstones

Sexual activity plays an essential role in many individuals' lives, but some people are unable to participate in the activity as they would like to due to many underlying causes. Issues with sexuality are commonly underdiagnosed and overlooked, given the social stigmas that make individuals feel ashamed and embarrassed to discuss it with their medical providers. As of 2019, "sexual dysfunction is estimated to be around 30-50% in the general population” (Verbeek & Hayward, 2019). This number continues to rise; therefore, education must be provided to these individuals to receive appropriate care and treatment. Sexual health is typically only addressed …
