Employing an arts-based research design, participants took part in a nature-art-making session, and their experiences were evaluated through pre- and post-art questionnaires, as well as an analysis of their artistic creations by trained inter-raters. The nature art-based experience …

Barriers To Outdoor Recreation For Marginalized Groups At The University Of Montana, Sabine R. Englert, Beatrix Frissell, Adrienne Liebert, Sophia Rodriquez, Margaret Jensen, Rachana Harris, Abby Doss Jan 2023

Barriers To Outdoor Recreation For Marginalized Groups At The University Of Montana, Sabine R. Englert, Beatrix Frissell, Adrienne Liebert, Sophia Rodriquez, Margaret Jensen, Rachana Harris, Abby Doss

Undergraduate Theses, Professional Papers, and Capstone Artifacts

Exclusion from outdoor recreation reflects legacies of oppression of marginalized communities and makes access to the outdoors not equally available. In the United States, approximately 38% of Black Americans and 48% of Hispanic Americans participated in outdoor recreation in 2020. This is compared to 55% participation among Caucasian Americans. Many other intersecting identities are actively excluded, including people with disabilities, fat populations, and members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community; furthermore, class-based hierarchies are shown through the restricted outdoor access of low-income populations.

While numerous studies show a lack of diversity in outdoor recreation, little to no research has been conducted on …

Effects Of Digital Pen With Tablet And Standard Mouse On Emg, Discomfort, And Rula In Prolonged Computer-Based Tasks, Nion Yaemsanguansak Jan 2023

Effects Of Digital Pen With Tablet And Standard Mouse On Emg, Discomfort, And Rula In Prolonged Computer-Based Tasks, Nion Yaemsanguansak

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Introduction – The digital pen with tablets (DPT) effectively modifies the disadvantages of the standard mouse (SM) more prominently than any other alternative pointing devices. However, previous studies lack sufficient evidence to confirm its ability to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs). Consequently, our research aimed to prove the DPT as a prevention strategy for the neck-shoulder and upper extremity WMSDs on mouse side by evaluating pathogenesis-related variables. Method – Our study employed a single-subject design with 35 healthy female office workers whose primary workstyle depends on the SM. We assessed muscle activity pattern, fatigue rate, postural risk, perceived discomfort, and …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The objective of this study was to determine the association between physical and psychological variables and the presence of NSLBP among female cleaners working in an academic setting. One hundred and ninety-nine female cleaners aged between 18 and 60 years old with and without LBP were asked to complete a set of self-reported questionnaires related to individual, work-related variables, quality of life, and the prevalence of NSLBP among cleaners. The binomial logistic regression analyses were used to determine the association between physical and psychological factors and the presence or of absence NSLBP. The results showed that the overall prevalence of …

Efficacy Of Adapted Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program In Treating Patients With Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, Kate Whipple Jan 2023

Efficacy Of Adapted Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program In Treating Patients With Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, Kate Whipple

Scripps Senior Theses

Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) has been applied in many contexts, and has been found to be a helpful therapeutic intervention for people dealing with both mental and physical struggles. In recent years, studies exploring the effects of using MBSR in the neurorehabilitation people with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) have emerged. However, these studies are primarily pilot studies with very few participants. This proposed study will explore whether an adapted version of the MBSR program is effective in reducing apathy and improving motivation to recover in participants with mild TBIs (mTBIs). The proposed study will have 76 participants and will uses …
