Analysis Of Zero Balancing Case Studies Through An Occupational Therapy Lens, Deanna Waggy Otr, Msa, Czb, Csla
Journal of Transformative Touch
Does Zero Balancing positively impact occupational performance? This is a question many Occupational Therapists (OTs) ask when discerning if Zero Balancing (ZB) is an evidence-based treatment modality. Case studies from the book Experiencing the Power of Zero Balancing: Case Studies of Journeys to Health and Wholeness (Quarry & King, 2016) were reviewed and compared to the Occupational Therapy domain of practice to show clear evidence that each case study had a positive impact on occupational performance. A comparison chart shows a direct link between the occupational categories and documented evidence of improved occupational performance through practitioner observation and client feedback …
Doodling As Self-Expression: Building Self-Efficacy In Normally Functioning Adults, Journey Coward
Doodling As Self-Expression: Building Self-Efficacy In Normally Functioning Adults, Journey Coward
Art Therapy | Theses and Dissertations
While previous studies identify doodling as a useful educational tool, this study sought to determine if doodling can build creative or emotional self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is an individual’s belief in their own capacity to express behaviors necessary to attain specific performance goals. The current study also sought to determine if doodling can be a form of self-care. Research collected was quantitative and qualitative using surveys to measure both creative and emotional self-efficacy along with a doodling activity. Ten participants were recruited through convenience sampling on social media and were included in the study after meeting the inclusion criteria of identifying themselves …
Prevalence Of Musculoskeletal Disorders And Ergonomic Risk Factors Among Firefighters, Hamza Farooq
Prevalence Of Musculoskeletal Disorders And Ergonomic Risk Factors Among Firefighters, Hamza Farooq
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Background: Injury to the musculoskeletal system or the human body's ability to move is known as a musculoskeletal disorder (i.e. muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, discs, blood vessels, etc.). Firefighting is a physically hard and dangerous job. Firefighters carry out emergencies and prevent fire and respond to disaster. Workers who deal with fireworks often have musculoskeletal disorders. Objective: To investigated the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and ergonomic risk factors among firefighters. Methodology: Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire was used to report musculoskeletal disorders in 106 firefighters and quick exposure check (QEC) questionnaire was used in 20 firefighters for 3 different tasks to evaluated …
Cross-Cultural Adaptation And Psychometric Evaluation Of The Myanmar Version Of Oswestry Disability Questionnaire And Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire For Individuals With Low Back Pain, Phyu Sin Oo
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study aimed to develop cross-culturally adapted Myanmar versions of the Oswestry Disability Questionnaire (M-ODQ) and Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (M-RMDQ), and determine their psychometric properties in individuals with low back pain (LBP). In accordance with the previous guidelines, the original ODQ and RMDQ were translated and cross-culturally adapted into a Myanmar language. The psychometric evaluation of the adapted M-ODQ and M-RMDQ were conducted on 102 individuals with LBP for assessing reliability, validity, and responsiveness. Reliability was assessed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC 2,1) while concurrent and construct validity were examined using the Spearman rank correlation coefficient and correlations with …
The Experience Of Meditation, And Its Effects On Attention, For Adults With Stroke Or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Three-Part Dissertation With Qualitative And Quantitative Evidence, Cheryl Carrico
Theses and Dissertations--Rehabilitation Sciences
Impairment of attention is common after stroke; is a defining characteristic of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); and has been shown to correlate significantly with difficulties in daily life for individuals with these conditions. More research is needed to establish effective interventions addressing impaired attention in such cases. Meditation is not a standard-of-care intervention for this purpose but may have therapeutic potential. Meditation has been broadly defined as an activity which has self-regulation of attention as its main aim. In other words, it can be considered a training of attention. To shed light on the therapeutic potential of meditation, including …
Mindfulness And Pain Regulation: The Role Of Acceptance And Commitment Therapy For Individuals With Chronic Pain, Ariana C. White
Mindfulness And Pain Regulation: The Role Of Acceptance And Commitment Therapy For Individuals With Chronic Pain, Ariana C. White
Honors Theses and Capstones
Chronic pain is a significant and widely prevalent health condition which requires comprehensive care to address the many facets contributing to symptomatology. In 2016, 20% of American adults (about 50 million) reported experiencing chronic pain, of which 7.4% indicated that chronic pain frequently limited their life and participation in activities within the past 3 months (CDC, 2018). As a result, many individuals with chronic pain turn to opioid-based medication for pain relief, but long-term use of opioids actually increases pain sensation (Tobin, 2019). Moreover, opioid medication is unable to target underlying mental health components which emerge as part of chronic …
Cross-Cultural Adaptation And Psychometric Properties Of The Thai Version Of The Pain Anxiety Symptoms Scale-20 (Pass-20) And The Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Short Form-Anxiety 8a (Promis-Anx-8) In Individuals With Chronic Low Back Pain, Panithi Charoenthaweekaew
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Context: Anxiety plays an important role in the management of chronic pain. The Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Short Form v1.0 – Anxiety 8a (PROMIS SF v1.0 - Anxiety 8a) and the Pain Anxiety Symptoms Scale-20 (PASS-20) have been developed for assessing general anxiety and pain-specific anxiety, respectively. Objective: To cross-culturally adapt the PROMIS SF v1.0 - Anxiety 8a and PASS-20 into Thai versions (T-PROMIS-Anx8a and T-PASS-20, respectively) and evaluate their psychometric properties in individuals with chronic low back pain (CLBP).Methods: The adaptations were performed using the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) translation guidelines. Thai individuals with CLBP completed …

Effects Of Lower Extremity Muscle Strengthening Exercise And Foot Orthoseson Medial Longitudinal Arch Height In Individuals With Flexible Flatfoot, Phoomchai Engkananuwat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Background: Foot orthoses and lower extremity exercises have been widely recommended to improve medial longitudinal arch (MLA) height in adults with flexible flatfoot. However, there is little evidence to guide the choice between foot orthoses or lower extremity exercises. Objectives: This study comprised two separate studies. Study 1 aimed to establish the more effective exercise protocol by comparing the MLA height in groups performing foot exercises with and without gluteus medius (GMed) muscle strengthening exercise. Study 2 compared the established exercise protocol in Study 1 with foot orthoses to determine the actual effectiveness of each intervention. Main outcome measures: Navicular …
Sit-To-Stand Ability With Dual Task Among Older Adults With Mild Cognitive Impairment, Perayut Chimsuwan
Sit-To-Stand Ability With Dual Task Among Older Adults With Mild Cognitive Impairment, Perayut Chimsuwan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Sit to stand (STS) is the basic mobility related to the quality of life. Older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have a movement pattern change in motor function. Moreover, the dual task can interfere with cognitive ability, leading to reduced motor performance. However, there was a lack of evidence of movement time, kinematics, and kinetics while performing STS tasks. This study aims to evaluate the STS ability in older adults with and without MCI while performing in single and dual conditions. This study was cross-sectional. Seventy older adults (35 older adults with MCI and 35 controls) participated in this …

A Comparison Of The Magnitude Of The Mental Health Benefits Of Exercising Outdoors Vs Exercising Indoors: A Review, Greta M. Rueschmann
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Many people in the United States suffer from poor mental health which can lead to suicide, self-harm, or negative effects on job performance and relationships. Not everyone can afford traditional therapy nor feels comfortable with it. With a greater emphasis placed on taking care of one’s mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, there should also be a greater emphasis placed on finding alternative types of therapy that can be matched to individuals based on their personalities and preferences. One such alternative is outdoor exercise. This review was conducted to examine whether exercising or performing physical activity outdoors results in greater …
