There is significantly limited research regarding the occupation of club motorcycle riding, and even more limited with its application to the veteran population

The study yielded 17 survey participants and 7 interview participants from the VFW MC. The study aimed to discover the benefits of club motorcycle riding for the veteran population through a Doing, Being, Becoming, and Belonging Framework. The data consisted of both quantitative and qualitative components which revealed four overall themes.

The capstone poster demonstrates the purpose for a manualized occupational therapy (OT) intervention for OT practitioners to treat children with post-traumatic stress disorder. The intervention uses an occupation-based approach informed by behavioral activation therapy and the model of human occupation principles. The manual includes two parts. Part one demonstrates the foundational principles for OT practitioners to obtain knowledge, skills, and tools before implementing the intervention. This doctoral capstone project was in partnership with Seattle’s community boating center, Sail Sand Point (SSP). SSP’s mission is “to bring the joy and life-enhancing benefits of sailing and small boats to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds”. This project aimed to develop adaptive sailing programming to increase sailing access to individuals with disabilities. This included expanding the partnership with Outdoors For All, an adaptive outdoor recreation organization in Seattle. Through this partnership we hosted their summer camp for five sailing days with five additional days planned for after the completion of this project, demonstrating program sustainability and longevity. …

Physical, sensory, and social aspects of the classroom environment directly influence students’ behavior, learning and academic achievement. Both teachers and occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) approach the design, adaptation, and use of the classroom from their respective knowledge base (Wintle, et al, 2022). Grandisson et al. (2020) noted that OTPs can often know very little about the school personnel, their pedagogy, the school culture, or the classroom routines. This can lead to a disconnect between OTPs recommendations for classroom environment modifications and teachers’ design and use of the same space.

The workload model has the potential for positive results (AOTA, 2014), as it compensates an OTP for all tasks performed, not just student-facing time (Garfinkel & Seruya, 2018; Corley et al., 2023). A 2022 federal policy change allowed occupational therapists (OTs) to open home health cases in a process known as the Start of Care or SOC, a responsibility previously limited to nurses, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists. The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) recognizes the opportunity for increased professional value and service utilization and called upon practitioners to advocate such and to educate home health agencies about the change. BlazePod technology is an intervention used successfully in Physical Therapy (PT) to address motor coordination deficits, however, there is limited evidence that OTs can successfully use it as a preparatory intervention with individuals who have motor coordination and cognitive deficits and are unable to independently complete everyday occupations such as dressing, bathing, toileting, etc.

The focus of this project was to provide evidence that supports how the occupational therapy profession can utilize BlazePod technology as a preparatory intervention tool to address motor coordination and cognitive deficits that in turn will enhance ADLs and IADLs.

This project addresses the gap in research and advocacy for children with low vision, particularly those diagnosed with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI), the leading cause of visual impairment in children. Through a needs assessment and educational intervention, the project aimed to enhance occupational therapy (OT) students' understanding of low vision in children and their role in addressing it. Pre- and post-surveys revealed a significant increase in knowledge among students, highlighting the need for specialized education in OT curricula. The findings underscore the importance of integrating targeted interventions for children with low vision into OT practice.

The aim of this study involved researching the role of occupational therapy in the transition into motherhood. The Scale of Occupational Disruption (SOD) was used to gather data about which occupations were the most and least disrupted, as reported by the research participants. Participants were recruited to complete the SOD anonymously through RedCap and were recruited through social media platforms and mom groups. In total, 142 participants participated in the study. Of the total 142 recruited participants, 117 completed the SOD in its entirety, and their data was able to be used for this study. The participants had a mean …

This study investigates the impact of pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) on the daily activities of postpartum women. Eleven women participated in an online survey, with four engaging in follow-up interviews via Microsoft Teams. The survey indicated that 91% of respondents experienced at least one symptom of PFD, including urine leakage, difficulty reaching the toilet in time, unexpected passing of wind, decreased vaginal sensation, a bulge at the vaginal opening, pelvic heaviness, and vulvar pain during sex. Despite these prevalent symptoms, 82% had not been offered pelvic floor therapy.

Chronic pain rehabilitation helps to reduce pain and restore valued life roles. Patients may have more positive outcomes when they perceive rehabilitation to be personally meaningful. This study examined associations between self-reported, personally meaningful rehabilitation and well-being. A pilot study was conducted using an online survey of people with chronic pain and experiences of rehabilitation. The PROMIS Pain Interference Short Form 8a and The Flourishing Scale were used to explore well-being. A modified self-report measure, the Meaningfulness in Rehabilitation Scale, was pilot-tested for construct validity and used in the survey. David Wagenfeld, an artist and resident of Kalamazoo, Michigan, provided the cover art for the Summer 2024 edition of The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy (OJOT). “Word Fusion” is a piece made from ink on paper that uses words to depict an image of a person walking through an environment. The image is rooted to the ground in love, joy, calmness, and peace. The person is one with themselves and their spirituality with arms portraying presence, joy, and serenity.
