In this issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Kokkinos et al5 studied the relationship of both a single CRF value, and change in CRF, with all-cause mortality in a large (n 1⁄4 93,060) sample from the ETHOS (Exercise Testing and Health Outcomes Study) cohort. In this cohort, CRF was estimated as the peak metabolic equivalents (METs) derived from the peak speed and grade obtained on a treadmill exercise test. The purpose of this study was to examine the differences between counselor supervisors’ and supervisees’ perceptions of the impact of multicultural supervision on client outcome. Counselor supervisors and supervisees may have differences in how much they believe multicultural factors affect client outcome and this study aimed to determine what differences exist. There were 61 participants in the study consisting of faculty, counselor supervisors, counselors, and graduate students in counseling-related fields. The current study found that multicultural supervision/competence alone predicted supervisor perceptions of client outcome. The findings suggest that training in supervision and multicultural supervision is vital to the professional development …

After an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, people need secondary prevention strategies to identify osteoarthritis at its earliest stages so that interventions can be implemented to halt or slow the progression toward its long-term burden. The Osteoarthritis Action Alliance formed an interdisciplinary Secondary Prevention Task Group to develop a consensus on recommendations to provide clinicians with secondary prevention strategies that are intended to reduce the risk of osteoarthritis after a person has an ACL injury. We undertook a phase-III, randomized controlled trial (RCT) that examined the effectiveness of a behavioral intervention based on social cognitive theory (SCT) and delivered through the Internet using e-learning approaches for immediate and sustained increases in physical activity among persons with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Method

The study followed a parallel group RCT design. Persons with MS (N = 318) were randomized into either behavioral intervention (n = 159) or attention/social contact control (n = 159) conditions. This manuscript presents data on how counselors can use theoretical concepts derived from three major schools of psychoanalysis to understand and treat clients with a disability. We survey historical data on the three schools of psychoanalysis (classical, ego psychology, and self-psychology), as well as detailed information on the founders and major contributors to these various schools of psychoanalysis. The data are presented not only to inform counselors about the three approaches to psychoanalysis, but also to help practitioners facilitate their clients' emotional health. In other words, the manuscript serves both an educational and clinical objective.

Burnout is described as feelings associated with emotional exhaustion, depersonalization of patients, and a loss of sense of personal accomplishment and it is unique to healthcare workers. Current research highlights this condition among physicians, nurses, and mid-level providers; however, insufficient research exists regarding the effects of burnout on medical assistants. Research led to mindfulness as a possible solution defined as an intentional regulation of attention and awareness of the present moment. BACKGROUND: The impact of time to treatment on outcomes of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) especially in patients presenting after 6 hours from symptom onset is not well characterized. We studied the differences in characteristics and treatment timelines of EVT-treated patients participating in the Florida Stroke Registry and aimed to characterize the extent to which time impacts EVT outcomes in the early and late time windows.

OBJECTIVE: To provide reliability and validity data to support the clinical utility of Economic Quality of Life Measure (Econ-QOL) scores in caregivers of civilians and service members/veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI).

DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey study.

SETTING: Three academic medical centers and a Veterans Affairs treatment facility.

Background: Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder impacting 1 in 44 children that is characterized by decreased social communication and problem behaviors. Despite the increasing accessibility of cannabis, there is limited guidance about its use and usefulness for autism. The purpose of this study is to query caregivers of autistic children about their experience, knowledge and interest in medical cannabis use for their children.

Introduction: The perceptions of students, faculty, staff, and clinicians regarding blindness or visual impairment (BVI) and physical therapist practice were explored before, during, and after interactions with a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) student with BVI.

Review of Literature: Information is sparse about the prevalence of students with disabilities in DPT programs in the United States. Medical school programs that welcome students with disabilities report positive interactions with faculty and student peers.

Introduction: Cadets frequently suffer from lower extremity injuries, but fail to participate in effective injury prevention programs (IPPs). The purpose of this study was to determine if an intervention focused on benefits and barriers of IPP with participation in an IPP would change attitudes towards participating in IPPs and functional performance. A 15-year-old female high school softball player with no prior history of either shoulder or elbow pathologies presented with pain in the elbow of her throwing arm that progressed to her shoulder during her high school softball team’s fall season. Purpose: The BOC announced a concept for continuing professional certification for athletic trainers (ATs), including an optional quality improvement (QI) project to examine practice performance. The purpose of this study was to examine current attitudes, perceived control and subjective norms of ATs regarding QI. Method: Data was collected using a qualitative descriptive design. A web-based survey was distributed via email and social media. Open-ended questions were evaluated by two independent coders using a general inductive approach. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of cupping therapy on muscular tenderness in the triceps surae of collegiate baseball players when compared to a control and sham treatment conditions. Methods: 20 collegiate baseball players (age= 22 ± 2 years, height= 186.8 ± 6.9 cm, weight= 88.6 ± 8.5 kg) participated in this study. Subjects were randomly assigned to either the treatment or sham treatment group. Introduction: Autonomic dysreflexia is a potentially lifethreatening complication in patients with a spinal cord injury above the level of T6. A dangerous symptom is an increase in blood pressure induced by reflex sympathetic hyperactivity secondary to a noxious stimuli which can lead to cerebral hemorrhages, seizures, heart failure or pulmonary edema.¹ The most common causes of autonomic dysreflexia are noxious stimuli to the 1) bladder such as urinary tract infection, distension, or catheterization; 2) bowel, such as constipation or 3) skin such as wounds, or tight clothing. Introduction: Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) is an abnormal connection between the arterial and venous system creating an increase in blood flow and pressure into the spinal veins¹ at an estimated frequency of 5-10 cases per million per year.² Activities that increase intrathoracic and venous pressure such as Valsalva, abdominal compression and steroids_² can lead to a venous infarction, subarachnoid hemorrhage, paraplegia or tetraplegia.³ SDAVF is difficult to diagnose as it presents similarly to other neurologic disorders, but if diagnosed early, deficits can be prevented and reversed with intervention.¹

This exploratory study is the first of its kind and was designed to determine if Rock Steady Boxing improves the vocal quality, loudness, and quality of life of individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Individuals in this study participated in the Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) program across a 12-week period. Data collection was completed twice in a pretest/posttest design to determine if there was a significant difference between the variables. PURPOSE: To examine Medicare reimbursement for hip arthroscopy from 2011 to 2022.

METHODS: The seven most common procedures performed with hip arthroscopy by a single surgeon were gathered. The Physician Fee Schedule Look-Up Tool was utilized to access financial data of the associated Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes. The reimbursement data for each CPT were gathered from the Physician Fee Schedule Look-Up Tool. With the consumer price index database and inflation calculator, reimbursement values were adjusted for inflation to 2022 U.S. dollars.

RESULTS: Following an adjustment for inflation, it was found that reimbursement rate for hip arthroscopy procedures on average …

IMPORTANCE: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the leading cause of acute lower respiratory infection in children younger than 5 years; effective prevention strategies are urgently needed.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy and safety of monoclonal antibodies for the prevention of RSV infection in infants and children.

DATA SOURCES: In this systematic review and network meta-analysis, PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched from database inception to March 2022.

This study examined levels of depression and anxiety symptoms (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale scores), and self-reported (Godin Leisure-Time Exercise Questionnaire), and accelerometer-measured physical activity in older adults with multiple sclerosis (n = 40) compared with age- and sex-matched healthy controls (n = 40). We observed differences in depression, anxiety, and physical activity between groups and further observed that minutes/day of moderate to vigorous physical activity partially accounted for group differences in depression scores. We provide preliminary support for research examining approaches for increasing moderate to vigorous physical activity and possibly reducing depression symptoms in older adults with …
