Background: Intrathecal baclofen (ITB) pumps have been used for management of spasticity and dystonia There is limited data on immediate post-operative complications such as GI adverse events after surgery for ITB pump related procedures. This study aimed to compare patients who underwent a pre-operative bowel cleanout to those who did not and the relationship with post-operative nausea, vomiting and constipation requiring an escalation of their bowel regimen. Design: Retrospective cohort study. Setting: Pediatric acute care hospital. Participants: All patients who underwent new ITB pump and/or catheter placement from January 2015-December 2022. Interventions: Preoperative bowel clean out. Main Outcome Measure: Quantity …

Case Diagnosis Acquired brain injury (ABI) is a common cause of disability. It is defined as an insult to the brain that subsequently results in impairments of communication, cognition, sensorimotor function and behavior. Anoxic brain injuries can be particularly disabling. A common cause of a anoxic injury in children is cardiopulmonary arrest. The revised coma recovery scale (CRS-R) is a standardized assessment for level of arousal after brain injury. Case Description A 16 year old healthy boy was admitted after an unwitnessed pulseless cardiopulmonary arrest requiring 3 defibrillations and 2mg of epinephrine. His cardiac and genetic workup was negative. His …

INTRODUCTION
Sleep disturbance of any nature is reported in more than half of all mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) patients. The pathophysiology of sleep disturbance following an mTBI is associated with structural and functional disruptions of sleep circuitry and circadian rhythm. Specifically, in the pediatric population, untreated sleep disturbance has been shown to delay mTBI recovery and compound other morbidities including neurocognitive dysfunction. It was our goal to further analyze the impact sleep disturbance has on neurocognitive function in children recovering from an mTBI.

INTRODUCTION
Each year, one to two million concussions occur in the youth populations and constitute 8.9% of all high school athletic injuries. However, current literature lacks studies that focus on concussion symptoms. This study sought to ascertain the prevalence of reporting concussion symptoms and continuing to play while experiencing symptoms in high school aged athletes.

INTRODUCTION
Visual symptoms are commonly reported in those who have experienced mild TBI. However, there has not been much research on other types of visual disturbances commonly seen in the post-concussive period. The goal of this study was to identify novel visual symptoms seen in post-concussive teens.

INTRODUCTION
The increasing prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its sequelae in the United States population has led to escalating health care expenditures. To favorably modify cardiovascular outcomes, exercise physiologists have developed varied exercise programs that are associated with mortality reduction, symptom relief, improved exercise tolerance, favorable risk factor modification and improved psychosocial well-being. For patients with significant disability and deconditioning, chair-based exercise may provide an alternative method of achieving the relative cardioprotective benefits of traditional exercise.

Project Aim: Increase the percent of eligible patients receiving kangaroo care from 19% to 30% by September 2019.
Results:
113 staff completed education
OT consults completed on all SBU patients
20 kangaroo wraps purchased
Kangaroo care rate in NICU increased from 19% (prior to SBU) to 36% (Post SBU opening).
Conclusion: Due to increased multidisciplinary awareness of importance of kangaroo care in the SBU more parents are completing kangaroo care.

The Decision Of Families And Hospice Nurses On Use Of Oxygen Therapy At End Of Life, Mary Gathoni, Janis Schiefelbein
The Decision Of Families And Hospice Nurses On Use Of Oxygen Therapy At End Of Life, Mary Gathoni, Janis Schiefelbein

Minimal research efforts have focused on why family members make the decision to use oxygen therapy for their loved one at end of life, and the thoughts of hospice nurses who recommend the use of oxygen. Many families and nurses believe the use of oxygen therapy in palliative care is a practice endorsed by the medical community. However, this is inconsistent with existing knowledge that oxygen use at end of life contributes to comfort and decreases breathlessness or dyspnea. Dyspnea, the sensation of breathlessness or inadequate breathing, is common for patients with end of life illnesses. Dyspnea occurs when an …
