Two physical therapy students, one applied exercise science student, and the manager of the UNE Motion Analysis Laboratory collaborated to investigate the effectiveness of the Prevent Injury Enhance Performance (PEP) program on reducing undesirable biomechanics and enhancing performance during athletic maneuvers in male lacrosse athletes.

While there is an overwhelming amount of data out there, it is crucial to be informed consumers so the information can be used to enhance one's own life and the lives of others. Background and Purpose: (Lewy Body Dementia) LBD is commonly known as a differential diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) as they both have a similar epidemiology and present with similar symptoms. Due to the paucity of research on physical therapy (PT) interventions for LBD, it may be suitable to use PD specific interventions as a treatment. Objective: To compare the effects of resistance and cardiovascular exercise on functional mobility in individuals with advanced cancer.
Design: Prospective, 2-group pretest-posttest pilot study with randomization to either resistance or cardiovascular exercise mode.
Setting: Comprehensive community cancer center and a hospital-based fitness facility.
Demographics: Volunteer sample of individuals with advanced cancer recruited through the cancer center, palliative care service, rehabilitation department, and a local hospice.
Outcome Measures: Functional mobility was assessed using the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB); self-reported pain and fatigue were assessed secondarily using visual analog scales. Data were analyzed using a split plot 2x2 analysis of variance …

Background: The American Physical Therapy Association identified the need for training in evidence based practice (EBP) and set forth guidelines for doctor of physical therapy (DPT) curricula to educate practitioners who are efficient and critical users of best evidence. Since DPT programs are teaching EBP, educators need an assessment tool to evaluate the competence of students. Background: Subacromial impingement results from repetitive trauma to structures underneath the subacromial arch leading to a decrease in the subacromial space, impingement of soft tissue, and ultimately a decrease in functional abilities. Conservative treatment includes physical therapy, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and corticosteriod injections. If improvements are not observed, there is a surgical option of a subacromial decompression (SAD). Conclusive evidence supporting surgery over conservative measures does not exist1. Poster presenting a research study whose purpose was to determine the test-retest reliability and MDC of the MFT in first, second, and third year DPT students, and to compare the mean total score of the MFT among the three student groups. Using a simple random sample, 21 students were recruited from each of the three UNE DPT classes. The participants completed the MFT twice, separated by 14 days, in a UNE classroom. Background: Femoral Acetabular Impingement (FAI) is a known cause of hip pain in adolescents and young adults produced by altered hip joint mechanics. Types of FAI include Cam deformity, Pincer deformity or a combination. Abnormal abutment of the femoral head on the acetabular rim, especially during hip flexion and internal rotation (IR) causes a sharp, pinching pain in the groin and lateral hip. Chronic FAI can lead to hip osteoarthritis (OA) and labral and/or chondral defects. It is unknown if there is a correlation between FAI and sacralization.
