The purpose of this CAT is to investigate therapeutic intervention and its effects for improving independence in occupational performance, overall health, quality of life, and mental health in adults over 40 with acquired low vision. This CAT contains nine peer-reviewed research articles from national journals. Study designs include one randomized controlled trial, seven systematic reviews, and one non-randomized controlled trial. All studies relate directly to the components of our evidence-based practice question and will be used to support further research on the optometry and occupational therapy collaboration. The purpose of our critically appraised topic is to synthesize the best current evidence regarding the feasibility of group occupational therapy and outcomes related to ADL performance. The final portfolio contains a total of five research articles. Study designs include two pre-post single group designs, two case studies, and one non randomized pilot trial with a control group. All studies related directly to the PICO question and were used to determine best evidence for the feasibility of group therapy of the older adult population in a rehabilitation setting.

Background: Although systematic and scoping reviews have identified a range of interventions for persons experiencing homelessness, no known reviews have captured the range and quality of intervention studies aimed at supporting a transition from homelessness. Objectives: To capture the range and quality of occupational therapy intervention studies aimed at supporting a transition to housing following homelessness. Method: Using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines, we conducted a systematic review including a critical appraisal and narrative synthesis of experimental studies. In this review article, the effect of virtual rehabilitation therapy on multiple sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disorder, is explored. Multiple sclerosis is characterized by damaged nerves that result in incomplete signal processing between the brain and the spinal cord. The symptoms of this condition can include vision loss, decreased coordination, pain, fatigue, and deteriorating motor output. In fieldwork sites where no full time OTP is employed, a fieldwork student requires 8 hours a week of onsite supervision from an OTP. An onsite supervisor of another profession must be available while the OTP is offsite. The other professional is unable to answer questions related directly to occupational therapy (OT) practice. This poster describes virtual communication methods used during a level II fieldwork at a community based wellness program for older adults and how these methods translate to OT/OTA supervision in practice.

Background: Deltoid muscle function is central in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) function; however, there is limited information available regarding changes in deltoid activity before and after surgery. Few tests exist to evaluate specific muscle metrics pre and post operatively. Surface Electromyographic (EMG) is non-invasive and allows for observation of motions with multifaceted analysis of movement with minimal patient demand. Understanding the changes in shoulder muscle activation, namely in the deltoid, in patients pre and post-RTSA can further advance understanding of the procedure and rehabilitation efforts.

According to The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), the majority of OTs work in direct client intervention instead of indirect or administration, consultation, or research roles (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2019). The top work settings for direct client interventions in occupational therapy (OT) are currently long-term care and skilled nursing facilities, freestanding outpatient centers, hospitals with acute and inpatient care, and school settings, with 74%, 70.4%, 70%, and 60.8% of the OTs working in those settings working, respectively (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2019).

Grief and the experiences associated with adapting to life after a life changing injury are researched and reported in detail in regard to individuals sustaining spinal cord injuries and amputations, but there is significantly less evidence presented on the experiences that people go through after a traumatic brain injury (TBI). There is some empirical information on the experience of the family of the person who experienced the TBI and about the symptoms of TBI.
