It also looks at the incidence of dengue in the town and across neighborhoods. In order to carry out this study, I spent a month living in the coastal town of Puerto López and interviewed 50 townspeople – 10 in each of the five neighborhoods of Jonas Gonzalez, Miraflores, Luís Gencón, San Alejo, and the central neighborhood. Short-term health camps are a growing form of delivering health care services to needy populations. Often these camps, usually lasting around 2 weeks, are led by I/NGOs in developing nations like Nepal and are staffed with volunteers from the Global North. These camps are largely ungoverned, and there are no evaluative techniques in place to monitor the effectiveness of the work done, raising concerns about the unintended consequences of short-term health camps camps. More than 70% of the Indian population lives in rural areas, and yet a greater proportion of health care spending is devoted to urban populations. Why do two developing countries in the same region have vastly different vaccination rates? What specific factors have the greatest influence on the vaccination rates in differing developing nations? This papers objective is to use a statistical model to try to determine what factors, education, healthcare system and infrastructure, play the largest role in impacting both positively the measles vaccination rate in 20 African countries. The results found only two of the six variables originally chosen to be statistically significant. These variables were the percentage of paved roads and the percentage of the GDP spent on education.

This independent study project investigates the status of lesbian health care in Valparaíso, Chile. Over the course of three weeks, I conducted interviews with six women who engage in non-heterosexual intimate relationships. These individuals identify on a spectrum of sexual orientation that includes lesbian, bisexual and hetero-dissident. I also participated in a political demonstration organized by Acción Gay supporting a proposed Anti-Discrimination law. Finally, I attended a meeting of the recently formed lesbian health group Colectivo Ropa Tendida to gain insight into an organization working towards visibilizing lesbian realities. Objective: To assess breast cancer perceptions in Northern Uganda for the purpose of informing necessary cancer initiatives.

Methods: Breast cancer patients and the Gulu District community development officer participated in semi-structured interviews. Interviews were analyzed using qualitative data analysis.

Results: The concept of cancer is relatively new in Northern Uganda. In conjunction with a lack of understanding and competing priorities, many women are often diagnosed in late and advanced stages. Most women go to the hospital when they feel distinctive pain in the body instead of getting regular check-ups.

This study conducted Amatkiulu, Impendle, and Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, utilizes three case studies to form a comparative analysisof the effectiveness of different models of public-private partnerships. Two expert interviews, three informal interviews, and many hours of observation inform this analysis of community health worker organizations employed through government clinics, tuberculosis tracer teams hired by government clinics, and independent non-governmental organizations heavily subsidized by the government. Subjective analysis found that the partnership between the Department of Health and a primary healthcare NGO, providing a wide range of comprehensive services, operated with the best efficiency and quality of care.
