Penelitian tentang hubungan antara kadar timbel dalam darah dengan anemia yang tercermin dalam kadar hemoglobin dan hematokrit pada petugas pintu tol Jagorawi Jakarta. Landasan teori penelitian ini adalah hasil pemantauan kualitas udara Daerah Khusus Ibu Kota (DKI) Jakarta dimana kadar timbel di udara ambien melebihi Baku Mutu Lingkungan (BML) dan adanya petunjuk literatur bahwa timbel memiliki pengaruh negatif terhadap sistem hemopoitik pada manusia. Seratus orang pekerja terpilih untuk penelitian ini. Sebanyak 12% dari pekerja yang merupakan subjek pada penelitian ini tergolong anemia berdasarkan kadar hemoglobin darah dan 10% anemia berdasarkan nilai hematokrit. Untuk meminimalkan korban bencana dikembangkan program kesiapsiagaan masyarakat menghadapi bencana gunung merapi melalui desa siaga. Tujuan penelitian ini mengetahui pelaksanaan kegiatan dan penerapan program kesiapsiagaan masyarakat menghadapi bencana gunung merapi di Desa Siaga Umbulharjo. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan penelitian studi kasus dengan analisis kualitatif. Subjek yang diteliti adalah pelaku pelaksanaan kegiatan pada pelaksanaan desa siaga, sedangkan objek penelitian adalah situasi sosial dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan. Older adult susceptibility to air pollution health effects is well-recognized. Advanced age may act as a partial surrogate for conditions associated with aging. The authors investigated whether gerontologic frailty (a clinical health status metric) modified the effects of ambient ozone or particulate matter (PM10) air pollution on lung function in 3382 older adults using 7 years of followup data from the Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS) and the CHS Environmental Factors Ancillary Study. Background: Objective measurement of physical activity remains an important challenge. For wearable monitors such as accelerometer-based physical activity monitors, more accurate methods are needed to convert activity counts into energy expenditure (EE).

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the accuracy of the refined Crouter 2-Regression Model (C2RM) for estimating EE during the transition from rest to walking and walking to rest. A secondary purpose was to determine the extent of overestimation in minute-by-minute EE between the refined C2RM and the 2006 C2RM.

Un trait caractéristique de la grande majorité des activités de manutention est d'être changeant, les tâches de manutention simples (i.e. circonscrites dans l'espace, les lieux et le temps) ayant, dans bien des cas, été automatisées dans les entreprises. The field of positive youth development has expanded focus from articulating and measuring desired manifestations of positive well-being to assembling the environmental conditions known to promote these desired outcomes. Evidence of the effectiveness of community-level efforts promoting positive youth development is still emerging, in particular theory-driven examples of community-driven youth development. This study examined the Community Action Framework, one theory-based community youth development model, through the experiences of the Ready by 21 Austin/Travis County coalition (RB21). L’arthrose du genou peut causer des incapacités fonctionnelles ou occupationnelles chroniques. Une forte prévalence d’arthrose au genou est rapportée chez les travailleurs qui occupent un emploi soumettant les genoux à une surcharge mécanique. Dans cette étude pilote, la marche de travailleurs exposés à des tâches soumettant les genoux à une surcharge a été comparée à celle de travailleurs non exposés à une telle surcharge. Le béryllium (Be) est rencontré lors de multiples usages industriels grâce à ses propriétés uniques, toutefois il représente un risque pour la santé des travailleurs qui y sont exposés. La bérylliose chronique (BC), une maladie professionnelle reliée à l'exposition au Be, serait la progression d'une phase de sensibilisation consistant en une réponse immunitaire spécifique suite à une exposition au Be. La voie d'absorption principale du Be est l'inhalation de particules, toutefois la pénétration cutanée ne serait pas négligeable dans le processus de sensibilisation.

Plusieurs études concluent que les boulangers exposés à la poussière de farine risquent d'être sensibilisés et de développer des symptômes respiratoires, voire de l'asthme professionnel (AP). D'autres rapportent une augmentation du risque de sensibilisation à la farine à des niveaux de 2 mg/m³ bien qu'il y ait prévalence de sensibilisation chez les boulangers exposés à 1 mg/m³ de poussière de farine. A research consortium comprised of representatives from several universities and national laboratories will be established as part of this project to generate internal and external dose conversion coefficients for radionuclides produced in spallation neutron sources. Information obtained from this multi-year study will be used to support the siting and licensing of future accelerator-driven nuclear initiatives within the U.S. Department of Energy complex, including the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and Accelerator Production of Tritium (APT) projects. Quagga Mussels, Dressenia bugensis, are a growing problem in the western United States, particularly in their ability to infest underwater infrastructures and clog water intake pipes and screens of power and treatment plants. Chlorine has been found to be the most effective chemical to get rid of veligers (planktonic larval form of quagga mussels) in the pipes. However, chlorine leaves a residue called trihalomethane, which is a carcinogen at higher concentrations. The purpose of this project is to test the effectiveness of an alternate chemical, chloramines (chlorine and ammonia), which leaves behind little to no residual trihalomethane. The gram negative bacterium Shigella flexneri is known to cause dysentery in humans and primates. In order to help prevent the spread of shigellosis, gene regulation must be understood. Studies show that the virulence genes in S .flexneri are thermo regulated. At 30°C histone-like nucleoid structuring protein (H-NS) represses transcription of virulence genes and at 37°C VirB derepresses virulence genes. Sexual risk taking among female delinquents represents a significant public health problem. Research is needed to understand the pathways leading to sexual risk taking among this population. This study sought to address this issue by identifying and testing two pathways from child maltreatment to non-condom use among 329 White and 484 African American female adolescent detainees: a relational pathway and a substance use coping pathway. The relational pathway indicated that child maltreatment would be related to non-condom use via depressive self-concept and condom use self-efficacy. Background: Structured physical activity (PA) programs are well positioned to promote PA among youth, however, little is known about these programs, particularly dance classes. The aims of this study were to: 1) describe PA levels of girls enrolled in dance classes, 2) determine the contribution of dance classes to total moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and 3) compare PA between days with a dance class (program days) and days without a dance class (non-program days).

Conclusions:

• The results of this study suggest that 68% of the population from this primary care practice got a dilated eye exam within a year. Facilitators were awareness/knowledge about the DR and DFE, eye problems and information from their doctors.
• Almost 20% of the patients did not get an eye exam as recommended. Various barriers included cost, transportation issues, time constraint issues, lack of symptoms of the disease, and fear of the exam.
• There is a significance difference in getting an eye exam by the type of insurance with a smaller percentage of Medicaid recipients (60%) meeting the guidelines compared …
