Ambroxol HCl is a mucolytic agent often used to treat respiratory disorders associated with excess mucus secretion. This study aims to determine the beyond-use date (BUD) of ambroxol HCl syrup on the market based on analysis of the decrease in drug content using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) – UV/Vis detector. The HPLC conditions were reversed-phase with a C18 column, mobile phase containing acetonitrile - phosphate buffer 0.05 M pH 4.5 (60:40) at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min using UV detection at 248 nm. Our laboratory has been investigating blooms of Trichodesmium, a genus of ecologically important, nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria, collected from Padre Island in the Gulf of Mexico. Trichodesmium species are an underexplored biological source of cyanobacteria – a taxa that has been shown to produce chemically diverse secondary metabolites. With our focus on the isolation and structure characterization of new bioactive marine natural products, our research group has discovered over 25 new-to-science compounds over the past three years from these blooms. Resveratrol is a plant secondary metabolite which protects plants from pathogenic invasions and acts as a remedial agent against injury, stress, and tissue damage by UV radiation. With its characteristic stilbene structure, resveratrol adopts (E) and (Z) isomeric forms. However, the (E) isomer is the most biologically active and abundant form of resveratrol in nature.

Ofloxacin is an antibiotic from second generation of fluoroquinolones group. Concentration of ofloxacin in human plasma is in low level, and due to that fact, it requires a selective, accurate, sensitive method of analysis. In this study, the optimization and validation of ofloxacin analysis in human plasma using high performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence with ciprofloxacin-HCl as an internal standard were carried out. This thesis reports on a series of investigations into the phytochemistry and pharmacology of plants belonging to the ginger family, Zingiberaceae (incl. Costaceae). The work falls into two main parts. The first part examines the pungent compounds and essential oil in 17 clones of ginger (Zingiber officinale) with a view to identify one or more with unique chemistry and consequent particular therapeutic (or flavouring) prospects. This study appraises the antioxidant and antimicrobial attributes of various solvent extracts (absolute methanol, aqueous methanol, absolute ethanol, aqueous ethanol, absolute acetone, aqueous acetone, and deionized water) from bark, leaves and seeds of Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre. Maximum extraction yield of antioxidant components from bark (16.31%), leaves (11.42%) and seeds (21.51%) of P. pinnata was obtained using aqueous methanol (20:80). Of the extracts tested, the bark extract, obtained with aqueous methanol, exhibited greater levels of total phenolics [6.94 g GAE/100 g dry weight (DW)], total flavonoids (3.44 g CE/100 g DW), inhibition of linoleic acid peroxidation (69.23%) and DPPH radical …
