Investigating The Role Of Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine For Cancer Symptom Management In Older Adults: A Rapid Review, Isabelle C. Karshner
Investigating The Role Of Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine For Cancer Symptom Management In Older Adults: A Rapid Review, Isabelle C. Karshner
Honors Undergraduate Theses
Background: Patients with cancer often experience symptoms related to disease, complications, and treatment. One potential method of alleviating these symptoms is traditional Chinese herbal medications (TCHM). This rapid review explores the role of traditional Chinese herbal medications in treating cancer-related symptoms in older adults.
Purpose: The purpose of this rapid review is to gain and provide a better understanding of the effects of TCHM on cancer-symptom management in the older adult population. This review explores the association between TCHM and effects on cancer symptoms in older adults, including interactions, toxicity, and signs/symptoms of TCHM use that may be useful information …
Dual Role Of Triphala Extracts In Breast Cancer Therapy: Enhanced Paclitaxel Cytotoxicity By Ethanolic Extract And Cytoprotection By Aqueous Extract, Supamas Charucharana, Poonlarp Cheepsunthorn Ph.D., Chalisa L. Cheepsunthorn Ph.D.

Chulalongkorn Medical Journal
Background: Combining antioxidants with chemotherapy is an emerging strategy to reduce chemotoxicity in normal cells. Triphala (TPL), a polyphenol-rich Thai herbal formulation, has shown promise in enhancing chemotherapy efficacy, but its interaction with paclitaxel (PX) in breast cancer treatment remains underexplored.
Objective: This study evaluates the effects of aqueous (TPL-w) and ethanolic (TPL-a) TPL extracts combined with low-dose PX on breast cancer cells and non-tumorigenic mammary epithelial cells.
Methods: The bioactive components of TPL-w and TPL-a were identified using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and chloromethyl 2′,7′-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate (CM-H2DCFDA) assays assessed cell viability and …
Antioxidant And Chemotherapeutic Synergy: Triphala Enhances Doxorubicin Cytotoxicity In Breast Cancer Cells And Reduces Toxicity In Non-Tumorigenic Cells, Supamas Charucharana, Poonlarp Cheepsunthorn Ph.D., Chalisa Louicharoen Cheepsunthorn Ph.D.

Chulalongkorn Medical Journal
Background: The combining of antioxidants with chemotherapy is increasingly explored to minimize toxicity in non-cancerous cells during breast cancer treatment. Triphala (TPL), a Thai herbal compound rich in antioxidants, shows potential as a complementary candidate for breast cancer chemotherapy.
Objective: This study investigated the combined effects of TPL and low-dose doxorubicin (DOX) on human breast cancer and non-tumorigenic mammary epithelial cells.
Methods: TPL’s bioactive compounds were analyzed via high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Cell viability and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were assessed in breast cancer (MDA-MB-231, MCF-7) and epithelial (MCF-10A) cells using thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and chloromethyl 2′,7′-dichlorodihydrofluorescein …
Paclitaxel Enhances Oncolytic Potential Of Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 In Cancer Cells, Misagh Naderi
Paclitaxel Enhances Oncolytic Potential Of Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 In Cancer Cells, Misagh Naderi
LSU Master's Theses
Taxanes are spindle poisons that bind to and stabilize microtubules resulting in mitotic arrest. Herpes simplex Typ-1 (HSV-1) virions utilize the microtubular network for intracellular transport during both virus entry and virus egress from infected cells. It has been reported previously that taxanes may synergize with oncolytic herpes simplex viruses in the treatment of experimental prostate and breast tumors in mice. Other reports have indicated that taxanes may inhibit viral replication in infected cells. In this study the previously characterized Oncolytic Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (OSVP), which was constructed in Kousoulas lab was used in conjugation with paclitaxel (taxol) …
Synthesis Of 2,4,6-Substituted Pyrrolo[2,3-D]Pyrimidines As Potential Anticancer Agents, Si Yang
Synthesis Of 2,4,6-Substituted Pyrrolo[2,3-D]Pyrimidines As Potential Anticancer Agents, Si Yang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis mainly focuses on the introduction of the background and work have been done in the areas of antifolates development, such as folate function, its three uptake mechanisms inside human cells, antifolates’ role in chemotherapy, et. al. In addition, the Structure-Activity-Relationship design rationale for the series of antifolates will also be discussed. Nevertheless, the details of synthesizing these pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidines as potential antifolates have been described, including chemistry reviews on the pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine scaffold, and the challenges encountered and the solutions how to solve or improve in order to achieve better yield.
