Curcuma zedoaria Rosc. (white turmeric) is a rhizomatous medicinal plant in the Zingiberaceae family, widely used in traditional Asian medicine. In recent years, increasing scientific attention has focused on its diverse pharmacological properties and bioactive constituents. This mini review summarises current knowledge of the phytochemical composition and biological activities of C. zedoaria, with particular emphasis on its antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects. Phytochemical investigations using analytical techniques such as GC–MS and HPLC have revealed the presence of numerous bioactive compounds, including sesquiterpenes (example, germacrone, curzerenone, and curdione) and curcuminoids, which contribute to its therapeutic potential. Experimental studies demonstrate …

The Antioxidant And Antiaging Activity Of Fig (Ficus Carica Linn) Leaf Ethanolic Extract In Vitro, Aji Winanta, Novita Zulaekhah, Perdana Priya Haresmita, Annisa Krisridwany, Rifki Febriansah, Inka Aprissa

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Background: Human organ systems can experience the aging process, one of which is the aging of the skin, characterized by dry, rough, or scaly skin, dullness, dark spots, and wrinkles. Previous studies have found that fig leaves contain compounds that have the potential to be anti-aging.
Objectives: This study aimed to determine the potential of fig leaves (Ficus carica Linn) as an anti-aging agent by examining their antioxidant activity, elastase inhibition, and antioxidative stress activity against hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Materials and Methods: The phytochemicals in fig leaf ethanol extract were identified using phytochemical screening tests, …

Comparative Analysis Of Polyphenol Content, Antioxidant Activity And Antimicrobial Properties In Endemic And Widespread Allium Species Of Tajikistan, Fazila Mirzoeva, Saidbeg Satorov, Salomuddin Usufi, Vyacheslav Dushenkov, Shukhratdzhon Shukhratdzhon May 2024

Comparative Analysis Of Polyphenol Content, Antioxidant Activity And Antimicrobial Properties In Endemic And Widespread Allium Species Of Tajikistan, Fazila Mirzoeva, Saidbeg Satorov, Salomuddin Usufi, Vyacheslav Dushenkov, Shukhratdzhon Shukhratdzhon

Publications and Research

In Tajikistan, the Allium genus is notably prolific, with over 80 species documented, and new species continually being identified in the mountainous regions. The Gorno- Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) of Tajikistan, within the Pamir Mountains, is significant for its 31 distinct Allium species, including endemics like A. afghanicum Wendelbo and A. schugnanicum Vved. The distribution of these species is often geographically restricted, and their biological activities, especially their antimicrobial properties, remain largely unexplored, presenting significant opportunities for future phytochemical and pharmacological research. This scholarly inquiry is aimed at contributing substantially to the academic discourse on the therapeutic capacities of Allium …

Comparative Study Of High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography And Antioxidant Potential Of Hydrocotyle Asiatica Mother Tincture Used In Homoeopathy, Rakhi Mishra, Binit Kumar Dwivedi, Deepshikha Gupta Sep 2022

Comparative Study Of High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography And Antioxidant Potential Of Hydrocotyle Asiatica Mother Tincture Used In Homoeopathy, Rakhi Mishra, Binit Kumar Dwivedi, Deepshikha Gupta

Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy

Background: Hydrocotyle asiatica has a therapeutic significance in the Indian system of medicine due to its rich antioxidant activity. In Homoeopathy, Hydrocotyle asiatica is used for the treatment of jaundice, skin diseases, dropsy, elephantiasis, leprosy, gonorrhea, leucorrhea, and nervous debility. It contains the abundant triterpene glycoside Asiatic acid which shows cytotoxic activity on cancer cells. Its homoeopathic mother tincture is a major source of antioxidant compounds, which is responsible for its overall pharmacological activity.

Objectives: This study was done to evaluate antioxidant activity and High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography study of Hydrocotyle asiatica in-house homoeopathic mother tincture and market samples. …

Skrining Fitokimia Dan Aktivitas Antioksidan Fraksi Etanol Alga Merah Eucheuma Spinosum, Bina Lohita Sari, Nurulia Susanti, Sutanto Sutanto

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research

The red alga, Eucheuma spinosum from South Bangka Waters was shown to contain antioxidant activity. Natural antioxidants from algae are known to play an important role against various diseases and aging processes. The study objective was to investigate phytochemical screenings and antioxidant activity of ethanol fractions Euchema spinosum from south Bangka waters. Antioxidant activities of fresh algae (FA), dry algae (DA), and algae product (AP) were determined with DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) assay. Extraction was conducted using 70% ethanol in acidic environment for 24 hours. Then, the extract was evaporated using rotary evaporator. Dry extract was fractionated with ethanol - n - …

Pengaruh Kandungan Komponen Minor Dari Minyak Kelapa Sawit (Elaeis Guineensis Jacq.) Terhadap Aktivitas Antioksidan Pada Proses Pemurnian Karotenoid, Ahmad Gazali Sofwan Sinaga, Donald Siahaan Apr 2015

Pengaruh Kandungan Komponen Minor Dari Minyak Kelapa Sawit (Elaeis Guineensis Jacq.) Terhadap Aktivitas Antioksidan Pada Proses Pemurnian Karotenoid, Ahmad Gazali Sofwan Sinaga, Donald Siahaan

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research

Palm oil contains carotenoid and vitamin E which possess antioxidant properties. A long exposure of heat and chemical substances during the purification process may lower antioxidant activity. This research was conducted to compare antioxidant activity of carotenoid and vitamin E obtained from each stage of three continuous purification process (transesterification, solvolytic micellization, and saponification). Total carotenoid concentration was analyzed by UV-visible spectrophotometer at λ 446 nm and total vitamin E concentration was analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography, while ester and triglyceride concentration were analyzed by gas chromatography. Antioxidant activity was measured by DPPH assay with incubation time in 60 minutes. …

Berries of Vaccinium spp. have long been an important source of food and pharmaceutical ingredients and are considered to have high antioxidant potential. Growing blueberries in Texas, United States is a substantial industry, but there is no report on their antioxidant capacity, total phenolics, and anthocyanins. This study evaluates antioxidant capacity and contents of total phenolics and anthocayanins in both fruits and leaves of 19 genotypes including five commercial cultivars and 11 selections of rabbiteye blueberry (V. ashei) and southern highbush (V. corymbosum hybrids), and three native species (V. darrowii, V. arboreum, and V. fuscatum) grown in Nacogdoches, Texas.
