Prescription And Over-The-Counter Medication Record Integration: A Holistic Patient-Centered Approach, Clark D. Kebodeaux
Prescription And Over-The-Counter Medication Record Integration: A Holistic Patient-Centered Approach, Clark D. Kebodeaux
Pharmacy Practice and Science Faculty Publications
Objective: Nonprescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medications play a crucial role in a patient’s ability to make choices to manage his or her own health care. Often these nonprescription choices are unknown to health care practitioners and thus are often not included as part of patients’ health records. The exclusion of these therapies can pose risks to patient safety. There is a significant need to address the capture of OTC medication use in both the physician and pharmacy electronic health records (EHRs) and during the practitionerepatient medication history and reconciliation process.

Housing Status, Patient Characteristics, And Ed Utilization Associated With Medication Prescribing At Ed Discharge Among Homeless And Nonhomeless Adults In Urban Hospitals In The United States, Lauren Cox
Theses and Dissertations
This cross-sectional study used a weighted sample of ED visits contained in the 2010-2015 years of the National Hospital Ambulatory Care Survey-Emergency Department (NHAMCS-ED) dataset. The purpose of this study was to: 1) identify differences in predisposing, enabling, and need characteristics, and ED use and medication prescribing characteristics between homeless and nonhomeless ED users; 2) assess the association between housing status and medication prescribing at ED discharge, and identify variables contributing to the disparity in medication prescribing between homeless and nonhomeless ED users; and 3) assess the predisposing, enabling, need, and ED use characteristics that predict medication prescribing at ED …

On October 26, 2012, the University of Akron School of Law’s Center for Intellectual Property and Technology hosted its Sixth Annual IP Scholars Forum. In attendance were thirteen legal scholars with expertise and an interest in IP and public health who met to discuss problems and potential solutions at the intersection of these fields. This report summarizes this discussion by describing the problems raised, areas of agreement and disagreement between the participants, suggestions and solutions made by participants and the subsequent evaluations of these suggestions and solutions. Led by the moderator, participants at the Forum focused generally on three broad …

Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Faculty Papers
The evolution of enabling technologies and their associated perspectives into molecular mechanisms underlying disease has extended beyond the abilities of scientific and clinical structures to advance their translation into new algorithms that improve the health of patients and populations.1 Research programs have yielded a vast array of novel molecules related to pathophysiological mechanisms that represent diagnostic and therapeutic targets which have the potential for personalized healthcare management. Yet, despite extraordinary scientific advances, routine successful translation of discovery into new therapeutic tools remains a distant vision. Beyond constraints in bridging discovery science with clinical translation due to obstacles in facilities, …
