Focused Clinical Question: Is a platelet-rich plasma or a corticosteroid injection better for relieving pain for patients with frozen shoulder pathologies? Data Sources: To identify relevant research papers, Boolean searches were conducted on Google Scholar, CINAHL Ultimate, MEDLINE Ultimate, and SPORTDiscus databases from September 14th through September 25th, 2023. Key terms used were corticosteroid (CS) injection, platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) injection, frozen shoulder, and adhesive capsulitis. Context: It is estimated that college football players sustain an average of 3 subconcussive blows to the head per game. Limited research has demonstrated that collegiate football players present with decreased static postural control, as measured using the Balance Error Scoring System, at the end of season compared to baseline. Interestingly, neurocognitive test scores in collegiate football players were not found to differ preseason, midseason and postseason. Authors hypothesized that using neurocognitive tests may not have been sensitive enough to detect the effects of the subconcussive impacts. Context: Tie-down roping, an event in rodeo, occurs when the athlete ropes a calf while on horseback, quickly dismounts from the horse and ties three legs of the calf together. Injuries to the knee and lower body have occurred with athletes in the tie-down roping event. Previous research with college rodeo athletes has shown the knee to be the most frequently injured area of the body. Background: A 21-year-old, male, collegiate baseball player reported to the athletic training staff complaining of pain along the posteromedial aspect of the right elbow. The patient reported a previous history of a grade I ulnar collateral ligament sprain that had been rehabilitated until he was able to return to full pain free activities. Background

Our main objective was to compare the characteristics and hospital outcomes of patients with primary and metastatic brain malignancies and to investigate the associated factors related to hospital outcomes.

Methods

We conducted a retrospective, cross-sectional study of 1628 patients with brain malignancies from 8 community hospitals between 2017 and 2022 who were identified using International Classification of Disease codes. A stepwise logistic regression was used to identify demographics and clinical characteristics associated with in-hospital mortality and home discharge.

Results

Objectives: Recent studies address missing survival outcomes in the National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS), a system that stores and shares standardized EMS data from U.S. States and Territories. This study aspired to improve imputed EMS outcome accuracy and establish benchmarks for common medical emergencies treated in prehospital care. Methods: This retrospective cohort study of ground-transported EMS patients with definitive end-of-EMS-event outcomes, based on dataset years 2017 to 2023, predicted the probability of “dead” or “alive” status using logistic regression. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death for men in the U.S. and Black men are twice as likely to die from the disease. However, prostate cancer, if diagnosed at an earlier stage, is curable. High Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer (HGSOC) has a 5-year survival rate of less than 50%. Ovarian cancer is one of the deadliest gynecological diseases and the 7th most common female cancer worldwide. Ovarian cancer patients generally have a poor prognosis despite the relatively successful treatments. When conventional cancer treatments, such as cisplatin chemotherapy and photon irradiation, are administered, residual cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) can survive, leading to CSC enrichment. CSCs are a small population of cancer cells that exhibit stem-like characteristics: quiescence (slowing of the cell cycle), differentiation, proliferation, and self-renewal to regenerate new CSCs. However, limited research has been conducted to determine if changes in peripheral vascular function track differences in brain health. Therefore, the purpose was to determine if previously reported sex differences in near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) vascular occlusion test (VOT) parameters persist across the lifespan and if these differences track age- and sex-related differences in a cognitive task. RNA binding proteins (RBPs) post-transcriptionally regulate gene expression by associating with regulatory sequences in the untranslated regions of mRNAs. Cold-inducible RBP (CIRP) is a stress-induced RBP that was recently shown to modulate inflammation in response to cellular stress, where it increases or decreases pro-tumorigenic (proinflammatory) cytokines in different contexts. CIRP expression is altered in several cancers, including breast cancer, but the effects of CIRP on inflammation in breast cancer is not known. Approximately 30% of the antimicrobials prescribed in acute care settings are unnecessary. Patient demand for antibiotics has seemingly skyrocketed following the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Context: Clinical Nurse Leader students conducted a microsystem assessment in five crucial non-clinical departments of an urban Bay Area hospital, each playing a vital role in the organization's efficiency at different levels.

This quantitative correlational study explored the relationships between perceived psychological safety, conflict management styles, and perceived conflict management success among nurse practitioners (NPs) operating in interprofessional acute or critical care teams in the United States. Despite existing literature on conflict management and psychological safety, there is a noticeable gap concerning the interplay of these factors, specifically among NPs. A multi-item survey was developed from validated measures to assess psychological safety, conflict management success, and conflict management style. The final sample included 944 NPs. Introduction: Social determinants of health (SDOH) are non-clinical factors that may affect the outcomes of cancer patients. The purpose of this study was to describe the influence of SDOH factors on quality of life (QOL)-related outcomes for lung cancer surgery patients.

Methods: Thirteen patients enrolled in a randomized trial of a dyadic self-management intervention were invited and agreed to participate in semi-structured key informant interviews at study completion (3 months post-discharge).
