Foliar Disease Of Wheat, A. G. P. Brown
Foliar Disease Of Wheat, A. G. P. Brown
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Wheat leaf diseases were at much reduced levels in 1984. This may have been caused by prolonged summer rain prematurely setting off dispersal of spores and also initiating microbiological breakdown of stubble residues. No survey was carried out in 1984 but a good indication of the seasonal effect can be gained by noting that in the spray-timing experiment at Badgingarra disease levels were extremely low until the end of August some 90 days after sowing. Foliar Diseases Of Wheat, A. G. P. Brown
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Leaf disease in the wheatbelt. Wheat leaf diseases were common north of Perth. They were severe in the Moora district and catastrophic in the northern wheatbelt. Yellow spot (Pyrenophora tritici-repentis) and glume blotch (Septoria nodorum) were the major pathogens in most areas with yellow spot exceeding glume blotch in area of leaf affected for the first time since surveys began in 1971. In the south dry conditions prevailed and diseases were hard to find. Figure 1 gives the distribution in the various zones for 1983 excluding the Esperance district which was not surveyed. Stress damage induced mostly by water stress …

1. Survey of fungi associated with diseased lupin-roots. Cylindrocarpon was only encountered on the south coast (Albany and Esperance districts). The isolates were identified as c. didymum and c. destructans. At certain sites in the two northern districts (Geraldton and Moora) a distinct type of disorder, characterised by reddish-brown coloured lesions which develop on the below ground portion of the hypocotyl, was observed. 2. 82 AL 60, Clover scorch fungicide trials. Aim: Test a range of new fungicides for clover scorch control in comparison with Benlate. Comments: DPX 164-2 and Bavistin gave excellent disease control even at the lower rate. Benlate and Tilt were still satisfactory but control was not as good at the lower rate. Bayleton and Baycor gave some disease control but only at the higher rate. Cercospora leaf spot could be found on most plots with careful search. Economically important damage has occurred only on a few plots. Pseudopeziza leaf spot was notably absent during this season compared with others. 83 …

Root rots were not considered generally to be a problem in 1981.Three Springs: Fungal root rots were commonly observed. Brown spot leaf and stem infection was also prevalent. Moora: Brown spot was the most prevalent. Northam: Crops were generally healthy. Albany: Crops were generally healthy Sclerotinia being present. Bridgetown: Brown spot was the main disease present. Root rots were also present. In December, a widespread disorder occurred, Late brown spot infection is suspected. Screening Of Clovers For Resistance To Clover Scorch, D. L. Chatel
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Clover Scorch (Jointly with Dr C.M. Francis). One thousand four hundred and seventy six legumes were screened in the field at the Denmark Research Station for susceptibility to clover scorch. They comprised 1440 subterranean clovers, eight other Trifoliums, two medics and 26 serradellas. The clovers from Australia gave interesting results. Thirty four of them were selections of Seaton Park, chosen by R.C. Rossiter and W. J. Collins on the basis of their variation. They did not differ in their reaction to clover scorch; all gave rating of 9. Twenty-six lines of Woogenellup from W.A. and 12 of Woogenellup and Morrar …
