Debriefing for Meaningful Learning (DML) is a method of debriefing grounded in the theory of reflection used following a simulation or clinical learning experience to engage participants in an interactive dialogue aimed at examining and evaluating their thinking and decision-making processes. With increasing adoption of DML worldwide, a sustainable training program for nurse educators is needed. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine if the use of an incivility simulation intervention and incivility educational module would increase nursing students’ perceived moral courage more than an incivility educational module alone.

Hypotheses: Nursing students’ moral courage scores would increase more in response to an incivility simulation intervention and educational module than for those who received the incivility educational module intervention alone.

Simulation is an integral teaching methodology used within current nursing curricula. The goal of simulation is to promote learning, develop clinical judgment and reasoning, and ultimately improve patient care. However, some factors can disrupt the goals of the simulation learning experience. Students may experience uncomfortable emotional responses, such as anxiety, during simulation events, which impairs students' thinking processes leading to decreased learning, poor performance, an inability to assess knowledge, and potentially prohibits the transfer of knowledge to practice. In the past 6 months, the Emergency Department at the George Washington University Hospital has onboarded over twice as many new-to-practice nurses as experienced emergency nurses. Studies suggest that these new-to-practice nurses often are deficient in clinical judgment, and our observations at our hospital support these findings. Empathy is the ability to see oneself in the situation of another and to take actions on behalf of that individual based on that perception. However, empathy has been shown to decrease in nursing education and continues to do so in nursing practice. Importantly, aspects of empathy have been shown to be teachable. This scholarly practice project examined whether an innovative simulation would increase empathy in prelicensure nursing students. A critical review of current literature reveals how microaggressions against transgender communities create and sustain barriers to equitable healthcare. The qualitative study was designed to explore the lived experience of prelicensure nursing students who are actively seeking to understand the healthcare needs of transgender patients in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Bullying continues to be a widespread, devastating problem in nursing. Research indicates that bullying has a negative, rippling impact on nurses, organizations, and patient care. This evidence-based practice project aimed to enhance new graduate nurses’ abilities to identify and respond to bullying behaviors. The intervention used a mixed educational methodology of didactic, simulation role-play, and cognitive rehearsal. Students who are unable to attend Pediatric clinical during the COVID-19 Pandemic needed an alternative method to meet the clinical objectives of the nursing curriculum. Utilizing semester-five management students to implement a simulation activity with the semester three pediatric students allowed the opportunity to simulate clinical experiences and develop interpersonal, clinical, and professional skills. Allowing the semester five students to pre-brief, implement, debrief, educate and mentor the semester-three pediatric students allowed the students to meet their course objectives and develop skills in patient-centered care, safety, informatics, documentation, delegation, education, and mentoring.

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary moderate fidelity simulated postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) educational intervention on accurate and timely adherence to a standard PPH protocol during simulated PPH events.

Methods: The study design was a quasi-experimental one group pretest- posttest time series utilizing a convenience sample of multidisciplinary nurses, nursing assistants, laboratory, and physician staff working at one rural hospital with an annual birthrate less than 100. Purpose: This program evaluation project aims were to review the current state of simulation experiences in pre-licensure undergraduate nursing programs in Washington State and determine policy recommendations related to the future use of simulation experiences in clinical nursing education. The evaluation compared student outcomes of NCLEX pass rates associated with clinical simulation versus traditional clinical nursing experiences. Programs were evaluated for compliance with INACSL Simulation Standards of Best Practice.
