Little is currently known about the diabetes incidence rate in Russia. Although it is currently reported that approximately eight million people in Russia currently have a diagnosis of diabetes1, other reports suggest that Russia has underreported this number by three to four times2. This exploratory study sought to learn more about Russian nursing students’ perceptions about the incidence and management of diabetes in Russia. We used a focus group style discussion to learn more from the students.

Examples of this include visits by the students and faculty to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, VA Medical Center War Related Injury and Illness Study Center, Arlington National Cemetery, US Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Memorial, WW I Memorial, WW II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Museum of American History, etc. We also met with Senator Mike Lee from the State of Utah to discuss issues pertaining to our Veterans.

This Capstone project evaluated the impact of a simulation-based learning experience on nursing students' anxiety levels, preparedness for psychiatric practicum, and stereotypical views towards individuals with mental illness. A sample of 15 bachelor level nursing students was utilized. The experimental group (n=8) was exposed to a four-hour simulation-based learning experience prior to the beginning of their clinical experience. The control group (n=7) began their clinical rotation without any simulation exposure. A pretest, posttest design utilizing the Mental Health Nursing Survey Part 1 (MHN-1) and the Mental Health Nursing Survey Part 2 (MHN-2) was used to measure the students' stereotypical views, …

Existing knowledge about alcohol misuse and abuse and nursing students is founded upon studies conducted primarily in the 1980's and 1990's, thus raising questions as to its relevance in 2014. The patterns of alcohol use and other substances over the past 30 years by students raise several questions concerning this phenomenon, which needs further explanation beyond just the high stress and demands of nursing education. The aim of this study sought to uncover the essence of nursing students’ experiences through a hermeneutic phenomenological approach and promote deeper understanding of the meaning of lifeworld experiences through the lens of critical social theory (CST). The problem addressed in this study is the conflicting research results regarding the effectiveness of HFS for students’ knowledge acquisition after participating in simulation exercises. Specifically this researcher determined the effects of a formatted simulation scenario on knowledge acquisition among nursing students and the students’ satisfaction and selfconfidence with the simulation learning activity. Purpose: To identify whether or not homophobia and heterosexism were present among students participating in a Bachelor’s of Science nursing program.

Design: A quantitative, descriptive, and non-experimental design was used.

Methods: The study employed a convenience sample of 245 nursing students recruited from a university’s nursing program located in the southeastern United States. Data collection and analysis took place from September 2013 to October 2013 and was accomplished using SPSS version 21 software package.

Nursing requires critical thinking to provide effective patient care. “The production of clear, accurate, and relevant writing is an essential competency in nursing.” Undergraduate nursing students learn to enhance their writing skills in a nursing research/advanced writing course taken during the program. Those students who do not enjoy writing most likely struggle with writing papers and often do not learn anything from the subject material or gain any critical thinking skills from writing in general. It is hoped through this course, students may gain a greater understanding and appreciation of writing to write effectively without apprehensions.

Much focus has been placed on studying cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) retention among nurses, but little has been done to understand the retention of emergency care/first-aid knowledge among undergraduate nursing students. Even though nursing students are educated in basic emergency care and first-aid throughout school, it “does not guarantee that [they] will be competent when faced with an emergency” (Berckes, 1984). The Berckes study (1984) shows that after only three months there was a three percent decrease in emergency care knowledge/first-aid retention. An experiential learning activity titled, "A Day in the Life" was implemented with nineteen baccalaureate nursing students in order to achieve a holistic understanding of the challenges faced by persons living with Schizophrenia and a physical disability, such as a fracture in an upper extremity or a visual impairment. Nursing students were required to complete 120 clinical hours in Wendover over a 4 week period. This required 4 trips to Wendover, UT and 4 overnight accommodations. The students rotated through several clinical sites including Anna Smith Elementary, Wendover High School, Toole Public Health Department and the Wendover Community Health Center. At each clinical site, students were paired with members of the community to facilitate learning.
