Abstract

Introduction

Children experience significant pain and distress during paediatric procedures, especially during intravenous (IV) cannulation. Several non-pharmacological interventions are in use for this purpose. Many distraction techniques are suggested.

Methods

A randomised controlled trial was conducted among 60 children in the age group of 4-12 years undergoing first IV cannulation after admission to evaluate the effectiveness of kaleidoscope compared to standard treatment on pain and behaviour response. Through block randomisation, 30 children were allocated to each group. Standard tools were used to assess pain and behaviour response.

Symptom perception is a key component in self-care for patients with HF that involves monitoring for HF symptoms and recognizing symptom changes. Objective: To analyze primary care health professionals’ breastfeeding practices and associated factors.

Method: A cross-sectional and analytical study was carried out with all health professionals working in breastfeeding support in five primary healthcare units, through a self-administered questionnaire. The chi-square test was used with a significance level of 5% to analyze the association of categorical variables with professional practice.

Results: Thirty-eight professionals participated. There was a statistically significant association (p=0.04597) between the variable update on breastfeeding in the last five years and the practice of implementing breastfeeding through support groups. Background: Out-of-hospital births (OOHBs) are rare representing ∼0.05% of prehospital callouts. OOHBs are at increased risk of complications including life-threatening conditions such as postpartum haemorrhage and neonate resuscitation. This research investigated Australian paramedics perceptions of’ training, experience, and confidence with OOHBs. Methods: Semi-structured qualitative interviews were undertaken in late 2021 via online conference or face-to-face. Sessions were audio-recorded and transcribed. Data was analysed and coded into over-arching themes using thematic analysis. Results: Fourteen participants were interviewed from military, industrial, and jurisdictional ambulance services. We sought to determine whether a collaborative, online learning activity would be experienced as interprofessional by learners from eight health professions.

Acne vulgaris is a common skin concern that may cause permanent disfiguration and encumbering effects on self-esteem and mental health. Additionally, it is often associated with expensive treatment costs for patients. When selecting the most appropriate therapeutic approach, nurse practitioners must also consider the price of the medication. For the majority of mild to moderate cases of acne (both comedonal and inflammatory), effective first-line treatment recommendations include a combination of a topical retinoid, benzoyl peroxide, and a topical antibiotic such as clindamycin. Generic and compounded medications are typically more cost-effective for patients than brand name formulations.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the experiences of Latinx nurses during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Design: A primary analysis of qualitative interview data was used for this study.

Methods: Data analysis included thematic network analysis to identify main themes experienced by 20 Latinx nurses. The previously collected interview data were interviews conducted during May to September 2020. Formal coding of the interview data was conducted utilizing Dedoose cloud-based software.
