On Sept. 3, 1973, a fire swept through the baghouse of the Bunker Hill mine in Idaho’s Silver Valley. The building was designed to filter pollutants produced by smelting, the melting of rocks that separates metal from its ore. The gases produced in this process carried poisons, including lead.

At the time, the prices of lead and silver were climbing toward all-time highs. Rather than wait for new filters and repairs, company officials kept the mine running. They increased production, bypassed the filtration steps and, for eleven months, dumped noxious gases directly into the surrounding area.

This research was reinforced by Parse's (1992) human becoming theory which contains the construct of spirituality. Falls and fall-related injuries impact patients' health outcomes and are the most commonly reported adverse event in hospitals for patients over 65 years of age. This scholarly project was conducted to evaluate the effect of evidence-based education to the Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistance in the medical and surgical oncology inpatient on reducing the number of patients falling. Retrospective reviews of patient fall rates, were conducted two months before the fall educational sessions, and prospective reviews were conducted after implementing fall education. The uses of cervical mucus and basal body temperature as indicators of return to fertility postpartum have resulted in high unintended pregnancy rates. In 2013, a study found that when women used urine hormone signs in a postpartum/breastfeeding protocol this resulted in fewer pregnancies. The legalization of marijuana in many U.S. states, despite its federal illegality, has resulted in an influx of positive marijuana drug screens across the healthcare sector.1 To better understand this problem, CRNAs in the Illinois Association of Nurse Anesthetists (IANA) were surveyed regarding their perceived knowledge of their organization’s policies regarding cannabis use using an online survey. The survey had a response rate of approximately 8.2% (n=148) and a majority (70%) of CRNAs disagreed or were neutral when asked if their organization’s policies were well-communicated regarding cannabis use. Transgender individuals experience healthcare-related discrimination, resulting in significant disparities and negative health outcomes in comparison to the general population. Many CRNAs do not receive formal or adequate education before being expected to care for transgender patients that contributes to these negative health outcomes.
