Background/Purpose:

Prevalence of nurse burnout can be as high as 40% (Duarte & Pinto-Gouveia, 2016). Variations of mindfulness-based interventions (MBI) have been utilized to combat burnout among nurses. Many studies utilize an adapted version(s) of the eight week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) course develop by Dr. Kabat-Zinn, which aims to aid in the improvement of mindfulness through practice of linking one’s physical and mental state in a nonjudgmental way (Ghawadra et al., 2019). Background: Evidence supports Apfel Simplified Risk Score (SRS) as being effective in predicting postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in patients following general anesthesia. Raising awareness of a person’s risk for PONV allows for prescription of antiemetics based on the Apfel SRS. Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) for the management of PONV highlight first identifying patients’ risk to better manage anesthesia side effects. A team of nurses working in a tertiary hospital in Texas led a project using the Apfel SRS to improve PONV management.

Furthermore, risk of developing chronic health conditions or engaging harmful behaviors such as substance use later in life increases with more frequent exposure to traumatic events, especially during childhood. Best evidence recommends delivery of health care using a Trauma Informed Care (TIC) approach to improve outcomes such as anxiety or depression. BACKGROUND:

Transfusion of blood products (transfusion) occurs infrequently for most nurses yet is a high-risk procedure for patients. To ensure patient safety, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and The Joint Commission (TJC) created regulatory standards for transfusion administration and documentation. To meet regulatory standards, transfusion events require documentation of all six critical steps and nurse leaders must monitor compliance with regulatory transfusion documentation, taking action when rates are suboptimal. Background:

In one region including 4 hospitals, acute care nurses historically met with professional development practitioners (PDP) and received binders containing printed, specialty-specific policies and a competency checklist (required to be signed and returned to the nurse leader) upon new hire or transfer. Creating physical orientation packets is costly, time-consuming, and restricts the ability to share appropriate orientation materials in the event of a PDP sick call. Real-time communication between the orientee, preceptor, PDP, and nurse leader regarding status of the competency checklist cannot occur with a physical binder. Providing electronic onboarding materials is a potential solution.

Background: Former Vanderbilt University Medical Center nurse, RaDonda Vought, was charged with criminally negligent homicide in March 2022 for a fatal drug error. Ms. Vought’s license was revoked and she was sentenced to three years of probation.

Purpose/aim: This poster presentation aims to inform attendants of the ethical principles involved in medication administration error reporting and the concepts of a Just Culture. Background: Registered nurses (RN) working in acute-care hospitals during the Covid-19 pandemic reported unprecedented stress. Walking between 7000-10,000 steps each day offers positive benefits such as improved mood, reduced stress, and reduction in overall mortality risk. Additionally, the American College of Sports Medicine’s (ACSM) Physical Activity Guidelines recommends adults should engage in 75 -150 minutes per week of moderate to intense activity for health benefits. One requirement includes having nurses conduct a minimum of three research studies as principal investigators within each 48-month review period. Breast cancer (BC) is the most prevalent type of cancer among women and the most common cancer diagnosis for all the population in the United States. Early screening and treatment for BC have improved the prognosis for breast cancer survivors (BCSs) and increased survival rate. Current evidence showed insufficient data related to BCSs’ post-treatment symptoms, coping issues, and availability and impact of educational and support programs associated with breast cancer survivorship.

Background

Over the last decade, progress in reducing maternal mortality in Rwanda has been slow, from 210 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2015 to 203 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2020. Access to quality antenatal care (ANC) can substantially reduce maternal and newborn mortality. Several studies have investigated factors that influence the use of ANC, but information on its quality is limited. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the determinants of quality antenatal care among pregnant women in Rwanda using a nationally representative sample.
