Background: 17% of United States children have a developmental delay, but only 2-3% receive early intervention referrals (Rice et al., 2014; Zablotsky et al., 2019). Standardized developmental screening improves developmental delay identification and early intervention referrals (Guervara et al., 2013; Lipkin et al., 2020).

Introduction: Leaders of a six-bed pediatric cardiac critical care unit identified the need to evaluate family engagement in patient care activities prior to implementing quality improvement initiatives. This program evaluation identified staff and family perception of barriers and facilitators to parent engagement in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.

Colic is defined as periods of inconsolable crying, fussing, or irritability that have no apparent cause and present in healthy infants under 5 months of age. Although colic is a benign and self-limiting condition, it can be distressing to parents and there are few robust treatment interventions. This systematic review explored the evidence for administration of probiotics to prevent or decrease symptoms of colic.

Methods:

Literature searches were conducted in PubMed, CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature), Cochrane Library, and Web of Science.

The study sought to assess the effect of prolonged pre-operative halo gravity traction (HGT) on the c-spine radiographs

Methods:

Data of 37 pediatric and adult patients who underwent ≥ 12wks pre-op HGT prior to definitive spine surgery from 2013-2015 at a single site in West Africa was reviewed. Radiographic assessment of the c-spine including ADI, SVA and C2-C7 Lordosis were done at pre HGT and at 4 weekly intervals. Paired T-Test was performed to evaluate changes in these parameters during HGT.

Subsequent multiple straight catheterizations may introduce bacteria into the urethra and result in hospital-acquired infections (HAI). The aim is to reduce the incidence of Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI), a preventable HAI. A change in protocols is needed to match evidence-based research on the best practice methods. Strategies are proposed to decrease the risk of CAUTI, and limitations are discussed. AIM: To achieve profession-wide consensus on clinical practice standards for six broad Australian nurse practitioner specialty areas (termed metaspecialties). DESIGN: Sequential mixed methods with initial interpretive study (Interpretive Phase) followed by modified three-round Delphi study (Survey Phase). METHODS: Participants from all Australian jurisdictions were recruited. Main eligibility criterion was current endorsement as a nurse practitioner for 12 or more months. Interpretive Phase comprised in-depth interviews of purposeful sample of nurse practitioners to identify clinical care activities and practice processes. BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular health (CVH) has been defined by the American Heart Association (AHA) as the presence of the "Life's Simple 7" ideal lifestyle and clinical factors. CVH is known to predict longevity and freedom from cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death for women in the United States. DNA methylation markers of aging have been aggregated into a composite epigenetic age score, which is associated with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. However, it is unknown whether poor CVH is associated with acceleration of aging as measured by DNA methylation markers in epigenetic age.

The aim of the evidence-based practice (EBP) project is to improve psychological outcomes for socially isolated older adults enrolled in a Homebound Program (HP) through the implementation of an EBP intervention. Social isolation has a multitude of negative consequences, including impacting the psychological health (e.g. depression, loneliness, anxiety) of the older adult population.

Synthesis of Evidence

Meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and randomized controlled trials addressing the clinical problem of social isolation were identified. Patient violence against nurses is a constant and valid local and global concern, and is an issue requiring action and advocacy on the behalf of novice nurses, as they are often more vulnerable to possible harm from workplace violence (WPV) than other health care providers A practice gap was identified within an undergraduate nursing program that no courses within the curriculum addressed the management of WPV against nurses.
