Though nurses may have knowledge about the health promoting benefits of a healthy diet, many do not consume enough fruits or vegetables. For hospital shift nurses to achieve healthy eating while at work, environmental barriers were reportedly the most challenging to overcome. To better understand the hospital food environment from the nurses’ perspective, two mechanisms for workplace food acquisition were studied: 1.) hospital consumer food environment, which includes cafeterias, vending machines, and gift shops; and 2.) free food at work.

Background: The Inpatient Psychiatry unit at Maine Medical Center (P6) is a 21-bed unit specializing in geriatric and medical psychiatry. The majority of patients have a primary diagnosis of Dementia with Behavioral Disturbance. The unit features 12 double occupancy rooms and one single occupancy room, as well as a large activity room. The ABCDEF Bundle (2017) is an evidence-based guide for clinicians working with critically ill patients to coordinate multidisciplinary care in the intensive care unit. The “B” of the ABCDEF Bundle represents both spontaneous awakening trials (SATs) and spontaneous breathing trials (SBTs). During an SAT, patients are slowly weaned off sedation to determine if they are capable of tolerating a smaller amount of sedating medications. In an SBT, ventilator settings are weaned on qualifying patients to determine readiness to extubate. A pairing of these trials is now the standard of care. Infection, related to febrile neutropenia, in patients receiving chemotherapy for cancer remains a common complication and is a medical emergency. Fever is often the only sign of severe underlying infection in neutropenic patients due to the patient’s immunosuppressed state (Butts, et.al, 2017). Vigilant nursing assessment and immediate medical attention for neutropenic fever (NF) is imperative because the rate of major organ complication and mortality is as high as 30% and 11% respectively (Freifield et.al, 2011 & Taplitz et.al, 2018). Objectives: The purpose of this project was to increase nurses’ knowledge and comfort level regarding advance care planning (ACP) in patients with a diagnosis of heart failure (HF) in a clinical setting.

Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used with a pre-and-post test administered to nurses prior to the beginning of a four-hour interactive class and immediately following the class. The data was analyzed using a 5-point Likert scale and paired t-tests were used to determine statistical significance. Statistical significance was set at 0.05.

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder that requires complex care and involves a variety of self-management decisions on a regular basis to manage the symptoms and avoid complications. Purpose: Working as a first-line nurse manager requires high managerial competence as an essential component in the delivery of health care. Therefore, factors that influence managerial competence warrant examination. The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with managerial competence of the first-line nurse managers using the best-fit model of human resource management framework. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. A total of 247 first-line nurse managers from 18 public hospitals in Indonesia participated. Unsafe abortion is the leading cause of maternal mortality among 15–24 year-old women in Sub-Saharan Africa. Greater understanding of the wider determinants of pregnancy termination in 15–24 year-olds could inform the design and development of interventions to mitigate the harm. Previous research has described the trends in and factors associated with termination of pregnancy for women of reproductive age in Nigeria. Abstract

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak places perinatal women at higher risk of developing anxiety and depression. Uncertainty, fear, and confusion in medical, social, economic, occupational and political aspects of life in the US add to existing stressors that perinatal women experience. To optimize the quality of perinatal care during the pandemic, appropriate mental health interventions must be implemented to prevent and alleviate perinatal anxiety and depression and improve maternal and infant outcomes. Measures include increased screening, non-pharmacologic and/or pharmacologic interventions and the use of telehealth for care delivery.
