For many American families, end-of-life care is often not discussed, until advanced illness or injury has fully disrupted everyday life. There are many benefits to discussing end-of-life care prior to any medical complications. Research has shown that individuals who plan their end-of-life processes with a hospice service provider and family members report a higher quality of death than individuals receiving common health care during their final six months of life. In order to make families and friends more comfortable with end-of-life discussions, I will conduct two one-hour educational sessions to students at California State University, Monterey Bay.

During my internship, I worked with multiple mental health advocacy groups in Northwest Arkansas, including Mental Health America and Judicial Equality for Mental Illness, to bring about beneficial change for mental health consumers. These groups have been successful in bringing additional treatment centers to our area and raising community awareness for the importance of mental health. Objective: To understand the perception of anemia among the women of childbearing age in Bolgatanga, Ghana, and to correlate the reasoning with the high incidence of anemia in the area.

Method: This research was a qualitative study consisting of 67 interviews over the course of the three weeks that were spent in Bolgatanga. 50 of these interviews were women of childbearing age (15-49), 6 were health professionals, and 11 were women older than the age range provided. Healthcare leadership has called for an increased diversification of the healthcare workforce, but the workplace experience of nonwhite nurses in the first years has not been assessed.

Discharge instructions are a self-care guide for patients after discharge from an acute care hospitalization. The discharge process starts on admission to the hospital and continues until discharged. Many patients rely on informal caregivers to provide support after a discharge. However, it is often unclear whether the patients or caregivers completely understand instructions provided during the discharge process. Key concepts related to how discharge instructions were implemented following discharge to home have been understudied from the patient’s and informal caregivers’ perspectives. Developing effective discharge instructions based on study findings may assist in reducing 30-day hospital readmission rates.

The purpose of this systematic review is to synthesize current research to answer the question, what nursing interventions best treat postpartum depression affecting mothers of low SES in developed countries. The methodology included 10 articles in research of interventions related to sleep, exercise, and social support. Of these interventions in the discussion, exercise is the most effective. Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination has immense potential to prevent HPV-related infections but vaccination rates remain suboptimal. Nurses could potentially increase vaccination rates by providing recommendations and addressing vaccine concerns. Optimism has been associated with lower inflammation and better health outcomes among people with medical conditions, but no studies have assessed this association in the stroke population. The purpose of this paper is to review studies that have assessed how undocumented parents’ legal status have affected their United States citizen-children’s health. This issue involves nurses from different specialties, such as pediatric nursing, mental health nursing and community health nursing. Eight articles were reviewed in regard to how parental legal status affects the child’s access to healthcare services, the child’s physical health and the child’s mental health. The articles revealed that citizen-children of undocumented parents had limited access to health care services, had poorer health, and had higher chances of having mental health illnesses. The purpose of this study is to query the nurses for their perceptions of the barriers and facilitators of discharging medically complex pediatric patients from a freestanding children’s hospital in central California. Using a mixed methods research design via an online survey, 90 nurses identified 3 distinct themes that act as barriers. Problem: Conscious sedation procedures are complicated by unanticipated airway compromise and obstruction. The STOP-Bang questionnaire (University of Toronto, 2012) is a validated obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) screening questionnaire used as a pre-procedure evaluation tool to assess a patient’s risk for OSA. There are four verifiable, objective questions and four subjective questions. This study examines to what extent the STOP-Bang score question variables reliably predict airway complications during conscious sedation procedures.
