Vascular endothelial glycocalyx is a fragile, gel-like substance found on the inside of the luminal wall of blood vessels. When damaged, either by hyperglycemia, hypoxia, hypervolemia, or inflammation, this fragile structure is degraded leaving the endothelium exposed. Damaged endothelial glycocalyx causes many side effects including edema, blood vessel vasodilation, and coagulopathy. Despite the lack of treatment options, treating the underlying cause and preventing degradation by avoiding triggers is paramount in reducing morbidity and mortality.

Aim: To evaluate the 15‐years impact of the work‐study nursing upgrading programme in East Africa.

Background: Working nurses in Africa are often primary family income earners, with limited ability to leave jobs and upgrade qualifications. In 2001, the university established a work‐study upgrade programme for enrolled‐ and diploma‐level nurses, allowing them to upgrade their qualifications while continuing to work and support families. Donor partnerships provided scholarships to further increase programme access.

Indonesia is the fifth largest producer of cigarettes and has the third highest number of smokers in the world. This has potential biological, psychological, and social consequences. The aims of this study were to investigate the effects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) on smoking behavior and anxiety. Quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. A total of 80 respondents were selected at random from 10 districts in proportion to the number of smokers in each district. Respondents completed questionnaires and received a course of CBT conducted over five meetings. There was a significant decrease smoking behavior and anxiety (p< 0.05) in the intervention group. Smoking behavior, nicotine dependence, and anxiety in male heads of family who smoke and who received CBT were significantly lower than in control group. The decreases in smoking behavior and anxiety were significantly correlated (p< 0.05). The study reveals, CBT can effectively change smoking habits as well as reduce anxiety.

An ionic polymer⁻metal composite (IPMC) is a kind of soft material. The applications of IPMC in actuators, environmental sensing, and energy harvesting are currently increasing rapidly. In this study, an ordered Nafion nanofibre mat prepared by electrospinning was used to investigate the characteristics of the mechanoelectrical transduction of IPMC. The morphologies of the Nafion nanofibre mat were characterized. The proton conductivity, ion exchange capacities, and water uptake potential of the Nafion nanofibre mat were compared to traditional IPMC, respectively. The Effectiveness of the Integrated Insulin Monitoring Sheets to Decrease Hypoglycemia Incidence on the Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 Patients. Hypoglycemia is one of the side effects of insulin therapy administration for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. The study aimed to develop the integrated insulin monitoring sheets and examine its effectiveness in identifying and recording the incidence of hypoglycemia who received analog insulin therapies. The use of augmented reality (AR) as a new multimedia networking technology is increasing. An investigation was made of the value of using AR as a tool to support the teaching of clinical practice skills. A series of mobile AR resources were created for use on tablet computers and smartphones to supplement clinical skills teaching in the laboratory (using image recognition), and clinical practice (using geolocation).
