Evidence has shown that Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist’s (SRNAs) stress is perceived as above average and is correlated with substandard patient care during clinical courses (Chipas et al., 2012). Some studies have indicated SRNAs experience low self-efficacy during clinical, which could lead to difficulty in thinking clearly or responding to clinical situations (Imus, Burns, & Weglarz, 2017). Peer mentoring has shown to result in stress reduction and improvement in self-efficacy in students (Barker et al., 2012; Giordana & Wedin, 2010). Hand hygiene is considered to be the far more superior method for preventing the spread of bacteria from a patient care provider to the patient (Allegranzi & Pittet, 2009; Rowlands et al., 2014; Tartari & Mamo, 2011). The addition of easily accessible hand hygiene devices to the anesthesia carts in the operating room may help to improve the opportunities for the anesthesia providers to perform hand hygiene. Postoperative pain management is a necessary component of the care of every surgical patient. Epidural analgesia is a widely used method to provide excellent postoperative pain relief and enhance postoperative recovery (Sawhney, 2012). Epidural analgesia is associated with fewer side effects than alternative pain management techniques; however, when epidural catheters are managed improperly, or pain is inadequately assessed, epidural analgesia fails to provide adequate pain relief (Deni et al., 2016). The purpose of this project was to mentor undergraduate nursing students as they worked on a project to identify the most effective tools for collecting family health history and to assess the impact of knowledge of family health history on preventive health behaviors. This project helped to identify tools that can be used to collect family health history and provided evidence that informs clinical practice. This project provided multiple mentoring and learning opportunities for undergraduate nursing students. Those mentored had opportunities to prepare manuscripts and present study findings at conferences and directly see how evidence is translated into practice. Mentored …

The proposal specified that four students would be involved in the mentoring environment, yet we found it possible to include eight students in faculty-mentored research efforts. Although only three students applied for ORCA grant funding (rather than the proposed four), the MEG Grant was sufficient to support nine students’ professional presentations and six students’ peer-reviewed publications. Examples of this include visits by the students and faculty to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Arlington National Cemetery, US Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Memorial, WW I Memorial, WW II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Museum of American History, etc. We also met with Senator Mike Lee from the State of Utah to discuss issues pertaining to our Veterans.

Elevated levels of FGF23 in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are associated with adverse health outcomes, such as increased mortality, large vessel disease, and reduced white matter volume, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. Apart from the well-known link between cardiovascular (CV) risk factors, especially diabetes and hypertension, and cerebrovascular damage, elevated FGF23 is also postulated to be associated with cerebrovascular damage independently of CKD. Elevated FGF23 predisposes to vascular calcification and is associated with vascular stiffness and endothelial dysfunction in the general population with normal renal function. GrandFamilies: The Contemporary Journal of Research, Practice and Policy

Although many grandmothers raising grandchildren experience transitions in their roles as family strains and circumstances change, little longitudinal data has been examined. This qualitative study assessed the relationships between custodial grandmothers’ appraisals of their family conflicts and concerns and family circumstances across eight years. Participants were thirty-five Ohio grandmothers who were raising their grandchildren in 2006-2007 and provided additional self-report survey data in 2008-2009 and 2014-2015. Data were gathered from open-ended questions that were analyzed through conventional content analysis. Background—Dietary micronutrient deficiencies have been shown to predict event‐free survival in other countries but have not been examined in patients with heart failure living in the United States. The purpose of this study was to determine whether number of dietary micronutrient deficiencies in patients with heart failure was associated with shorter event‐free survival, defined as a combined end point of all‐cause hospitalization and death.

Methods and Results—Four‐day food diaries were collected from 246 patients with heart failure (age: 61.5±12 years; 67% male; 73% white; 45% New York Heart Association [NYHA] class III/IV) and analyzed using Nutrition Data Systems …

There are currently no published scoring instruments with prior empirical evidence to support the validity and reliability of the accuracy of the drug withdrawal scores generated in infants greater than 28 days of life with a diagnosis of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). This study was done to identify the signs of withdrawal in infants greater than 28 days of life with NAS and determine if further adaptation of the modified-FNAST was necessary to accurately measure the severity of drug withdrawal in this sub population of infants. Communication is a key aspect of care in the health care setting. Handoff communication occurs between medical provider’s numerous times a day. Each patient handoff performed has the potential for ineffective communication, leading to poor patient outcomes. The Joint Commission has recognized handoff communication as one of the main causes of sentinel events, or unexpected events that results in patient harm or death, in the health care setting (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health care Organizations [JCAHO], 2012). วัตถุประสงค์: เพื่อศึกษารูปแบบการจัดการเรียนการสอนของอาจารย์พยาบาล มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏเพชรบุรี ในศตวรรษที่ 21\n\nแบบแผนการวิจัย: การวิจัยแบบผสมผสาน (Mixed method)\n\nวิธีดำเนินการวิจัย: ผู้ให้ข้อมูลหลัก มี 2 กลุ่ม คือ 1) อาจารย์พยาบาล จำนวน 10 ราย และ 2) นักศึกษาพยาบาล จำนวน 160 คน เก็บข้อมูลโดยการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกและสนทนากลุ่มในกลุ่มอาจารย์พยาบาล และนำข้อมูลมาวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา (Content analysis) และเก็บข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถามความคิดเห็นที่มีต่อรูปแบบการจัดการเรียนการสอนในศตวรรษที่ 21 ในกลุ่มนักศึกษาพยาบาล วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติพื้นฐาน ได้แก่ ค่าเฉลี่ย และค่าเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน\n\nผลการวิจัย: อาจารย์พยาบาลมีมุมมองของการจัดการเรียนการสอนในศตวรรษที่ 21 ประกอบด้วย 2 ประเด็นหลัก คือ 1) การพัฒนาหลักสูตร และ 2) การจัดการเรียนการสอน ประกอบด้วย 4 รูปแบบ คือ 1) การสอนในโลกไร้พรมแดนที่มีการเชื่อมต่อความรู้ผ่านเครือข่าย 2) การสอนแบบที่ช่วยให้ผู้เรียนเกิดการเรียนรู้โดยไม่ต้องสอน 3) การสอนแบบเน้นการลงมือปฏิบัติ และ 4) การสอนที่มีบรรยากาศส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้อย่างสร้างสรรค์ โดยนักศึกษาพยาบาลมีความคิดเห็นด้วยมากที่สุด คือ รูปแบบการสอนแบบเน้นการลงมือปฏิบัติ อยู่ในระดับดี (= 4.19, SD = 0.56) รองลงมา คือ รูปแบบการสอนที่มีบรรยากาศส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้อย่างสร้างสรรค์ อยู่ในระดับดี (= 4.18, SD = 0.58) ต่อมาคือ รูปแบบการสอนในโลกไร้พรมแดนที่มีการเชื่อมต่อความรู้ผ่านเครือข่าย พบว่า อยู่ในระดับดี (= 4.11, SD = 0.49) และรูปแบบการสอนแบบที่ช่วยให้ผู้เรียนเกิดการเรียนรู้โดยไม่ต้องสอน พบว่า อยู่ในระดับดี (= 4.06, SD = 0.48)\n\nสรุป: ข้อมูลที่ได้ทำให้เห็นรูปแบบการจัดการเรียนการสอนของอาจารย์พยาบาล สามารถนำไปเป็นข้อมูลพื้นฐานสำหรับอาจารย์พยาบาลในการพัฒนารูปแบบการจัดการเรียนการสอนเพื่อให้บัณฑิตพยาบาลบรรลุความสำเร็จของการจัดการศึกษา และสอดรับกับคุณลักษณะบัณฑิตที่พึงประสงค์ในศตวรรษที่ 21 และทำให้นักศึกษาพยาบาลมีคุณภาพที่ดีขึ้นต่อไป
