The Deaf community is a particularly unique and often overlooked vulnerable population because of the additional communication barriers that they possess. The goal for this research is to look at the current best practices for communication and treatment in hospitals from the perspective of the Deaf community. Pre-adolescent female mentorship through team membership over the course of four years is examined for the purpose of this Doctoral of Nursing Practice - Family Nurse Practitioner project. Dr. Jean Watson theory of Human Caring is used as a catalyst for the project. A literature review was performed to help guided the project and bring to surface opportunities for further examination. A Doctor of Nursing Practice - Family Nurse Practitioner student mentored the eleven participants. The Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advance Practice nursing were utilized in the project.

The prevalence of stress-related physical and psychological diseases is continually increasing. Underserved children have a high risk for developing stress-related conditions as a result of multiple social, physiological, and environmental factors. This DNP/FNP scholarly project focuses on the stress-reducing effects of the integrative therapies of yoga, meditation, music, and mindfulness. A program includes concepts of yoga, meditation, mindfulness and music listening to provide children with low-cost coping techniques that help combat the ill effects of stress in their lives. Approximately 5% of dementia sufferers are individuals younger than age 65. The majority of studies have focused on individuals with late-onset dementia. The limited studies conducted on caregivers of younger onset dementia individuals identify that they have a different set of needs based upon their unique experiences. Simulation-based education is a teaching method used successfully in military, aviation, and medical education; however, the evidence rarely indicates how debriefing affects the learners’ experiences. Debriefing is an essential component of simulation-based education that fosters conceptual learning, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of two different debriefing methods on nurses’ perceptions of psychological safety, satisfaction with development of clinical reasoning skills, and satisfaction with learning. Purpose/Goal Statement: Evaluate the effectiveness of group education in improving knowledge and self-reported compliance.

Clinical Question: In hypertensive patients, does increased education, including group educational seminars, increase knowledge and therefore self-reported compliance?

Methods: 45-minute group seminar designed to increase knowledge and promote compliance. Pre- and post-tests administered to evaluate effectiveness. Pre- and post-test means were calculated using Microsoft Excel. Eight-week follow up phone calls were made to evaluate self-reported compliance.

Findings: Mean pre-test score was 69%. Mean post-test score was 98%. A 29% …

Improvement in the effectiveness and optimization of care outcomes for patients with dementia in primary care is a national priority (American Medical Association-convened Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement [PCPI], 2014). Alzheimer’s disease affects more than 5 million Americans. Patients with dementia cost the nation $236 billion in 2016 (Alzheimer’s Association, 2016). In 2014, the PCPI developed ten evidence-based recommendations to address the gaps in outpatient dementia care called the Dementia Performance Measure Set (DPMS). Purpose

Healthcare professionals who provide services in the immediate or long‐term aftermath of traumatic events need to understand the nature and frequency of traumatic events in the lives of women. However, research on trauma exposure in women has only recently begun to assess events other than intimate partner and sexual violence and has not supported direct statistical comparison of cross‐national and cross‐cultural data. The purpose of this descriptive, correlational study was to describe and compare trauma exposure prevalence and type in community‐based samples of women in the United States, Colombia, and Hong Kong.

Purpose: The portrayal of women in the mass media is increasingly sexualized. An accumulation of negative media exposure can cause adolescent girls to fall prey to self-objectification. Repeated experiences of self-objectification can result in body shame, which consequently may lead to dietary restraint and binge eating to achieve the idealized thin body. Hospital medicine providers were surveyed to evaluate baseline delirium attitudes and behaviors. An educational program was then shared, and a follow up survey was given to determine if their delirium attitudes and practices were impacted by the educational intervention. Follow up survey results indicated that providers perceived more of a change in their attitudes than practices, and overall found the education to be useful and felt more confident in treating delirium as a result.
