Nurses have been placed under tremendous pressure throughout their careers and the culmination of this pressure was the COVID-19 pandemic. Nurses had to remain stoic despite longer hours, heavier workloads, lack of PPE and the fear of becoming infected or infecting their families. The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to examine the lived experiences of students after failing a nursing course, resulting in the students either sitting out a semester prior to repeating the course or making the decision not to return to a program at all. The purpose of this integrative review is to research, critique, and synthesize current literature to ascertain the effectiveness of nonpharmacological pain management interventions on hospitalized patient reported pain scores and the use of opioids. Patients report pain while hospitalized for a variety of reasons. In order to become an active participant in their recovery, patients must have their pain adequately controlled. The use of opioids for main management may be required but alternatives exist. These alternatives do not have the same risk factors as opioid pain management. It identifies common skills and competencies, provides a synthesis of existing training practices, and identifies gaps in the evidence. Falls are on the rise at a facility in the Southern part of Virginia. Reducing falls and falls with injury is a goal for this facility. The falls metric is an important nurse-sensitive quality indicator that impacts mortality, the patient experience, and hospital length-of-stay. Falls cause injury and occur at a high rate worldwide (World Health Organization, 2018). Healthcare organizations suffer from loss of reimbursement from patient falls due to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ no-pay policy. With sedation increasing the risk for patient falls, the study of conscious sedation should be performed to analyze if there is a relationship between conscious sedation and patient falls.
