Mini-implant assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) is used to correct transverse maxillary deficiencies in orthodontics. While MARPE's influence on occlusal stability and maxillary expansion is recognized, its impact on facial aesthetics, soft tissue morphology, and nasal airway function requires further examination. Our study analyzed the changes in facial soft tissue and airway dimensions in patients undergoing MARPE treatment.

Tobacco use is one of the leading causes of premature death, disease and disability around the world. Six out of eight leading causes of death worldwide are attributed to the diseases related to tobacco use as a risk factor. Healthcare professionals rank high both in effectiveness and preference for providing tobacco cessation counselling. Surveys have found that 58% of smokers made regular appointments with their dentist. Cessation rates of up to 18% have been seen when dental professionals counselled their patients to quit tobacco. The study evaluated dental student’s views about tobacco cessation counselling and their skills as counsellors.

Nuclear chromatin patterns have been used historically to distinguish between different developmental stages and lineages of white blood cells. While it is common to characterize cells based on arbitrary ‘open’ or ‘closed’ chromatin patterns, quantification of chromatin data is lacking. By extracting nuclei from a database of white blood cells and running fractal analyses using TWOMBLI, we were able to produce meaningful data quantifying chromatin patterns. Our data were put through a random forest algorithm which grouped each point based on relationship probability. Delirium frequently occurs in severely ill adults, leading to worse outcomes and increased duration of intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital stays, along with higher associated expenses. The 2018 clinical practice guidelines for Pain, Agitation, Delirium, Immobility, and Sleep Disruption (PADIS) recommend that all adult ICU patients be regularly assessed for delirium. At Valley Hospital Medical Center, the utilization of Confusion Assessment Method for the ICU (CAM-ICU) for monitoring delirium is infrequent, typically taking place either after the adjustment of sedatives or in response to nursing reports of positive neurologic assessments indicating signs of delirium.

Trichomoniasis, also called “trich”, is the most common non-viral sexually transmitted infection (STI). Its etiological agent is the protozoan parasite Trichomonas vaginalis, against which first-line antiparasitics usually work. However, resistance is on the rise. Trich has traditionally been considered a nuisance infection, with many (particularly AMAB patients) being asymptomatic. But research in recent years has begun to unravel correlations of trichomonal infections with a myriad of comorbitidies, including infertility, cancers, the pathogenesis of AIDS, and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the marginal fit of presintered cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) and zirconia 3-unit fixed partial dentures by using X-ray microcomputed tomography (mCT).

Material and methods. A metal model was prepared from a typodont to receive fixed partial dentures (N=12). The HIPPO signaling pathway plays a key role in cell proliferation and tumor suppression. It consists of serine/threonine kinase cascades, including MST1/2, LATS1/2, YAP, and TAZ. When the HIPPO pathway is activated, gene expression is altered. Dysfunction of the activity of this cascade may contribute to cancer development and chemoresistance. FAT4 is an intracellular protein that may regulate the HIPPO signaling. The purpose of this study is to determine the relative changes of mRNA of the HIPPO pathway members and FAT4 in doxorubicin-treated and vehicle-treated in vitro cell lines.

Basic Life Support training and certification is obtained before or during nursing school with little opportunity for practice. Poor quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills can affect the confidence level of the performer and the patient outcome. The purpose of this article is to describe and analyze the psychometric properties of the Learning Orientation Questionnaire (LOQ), which have not been previously published. Psychometric validation involves the accumulation of proper empirical evidence to confirm measurement of the intended construct, and to justify the intended uses of the scales. LOQ is based upon the intentional learning theory, which is a comprehensive, holistic learning theory. Tracheostomy airway patient safety errors are a global, yet preventable problem. Unrecognized tracheostomy airway complications lead to patient deterioration, resulting in hypoxic brain damage and death or permanent disability. The majority of preventable tracheostomy events occur after patient discharge from the intensive care setting. These catastrophic events are attributed to deficiencies in competent and safe nursing care. The national nursing shortage is projected to increase as the bulk of the United States population ages out of the workforce and is likely to require more age-related healthcare services. The lack of ethnic, racial, and gender-based diversity in the current workforce exacerbates this shortage, and the need for a diversified workforce acknowledged by governing nursing bodies from as early as 2011 is still largely unmet. Background: Tobacco use can lead to numerous chronic health conditions. Healthcare professionals in the dental field are in a unique position to broach this issue with patients. Research shows that dental students do not feel equipped to provide tobacco cessation care, citing lack of education on the subject among their top reasons for this.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impacts of using scaffolded clinical simulations on nursing students’ confidence in clinical reasoning, clinical judgment, and critical thinking skills. Next, we also attempted to gain insights into students’ perceptions of the benefits of scaffolded clinical simulations.

Method: We used a mixed-methods research design to investigate the impacts of using scaffolded clinical simulations on 133 second-semester baccalaureate nursing students’ confidence in clinical reasoning, clinical judgment, and critical thinking skills.
