Effects Of Velocity-Based Training And Resistance Training On Acute Recovery Based On Sport-Specific Performance In Soccer Players, Viorel Cristian Ravar Ladislau
Effects Of Velocity-Based Training And Resistance Training On Acute Recovery Based On Sport-Specific Performance In Soccer Players, Viorel Cristian Ravar Ladislau
Student Theses and Dissertations
This study aimed to examine the effects of velocity-based training (VBT) and resistance training (RT) on acute recovery, as determined by sport-specific performance (SSP). Twenty experienced male soccer players completed five training sessions, including VBT and RT, with sport-specific training (SST) tests conducted after each session. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences (p < 0.05) in performance between VBT and RT for all six SST tests. VBT resulted in superior performance in the 30-meter dash (p < 0.0001), vertical jump (p < 0.0001), double leg bounds (p = 0.001), 505-agility drill (p < 0.0001), zigzag sprint and shuffle drill (p < 0.0001), and 5-10-15-meter shuttle run (p < 0.0001) tests. These findings support the hypothesis that VBT can lead to superior SSP outcomes compared to traditional RT in male soccer players. Results have practical implications for strength and conditioning professionals working with soccer players to improve recovery and performance outcomes.
Predictors Of Ncaa Division I Women’S And Men’S Cross-Country Performance, Mac John Carder Iii
Predictors Of Ncaa Division I Women’S And Men’S Cross-Country Performance, Mac John Carder Iii
Student Theses and Dissertations
Division I cross country (XC) running has many factors that influence performance and is extremely difficult to predict. Consequently, coaches often struggle to identify performance potential in athletes. In this study, personal best race times, VO2max, triceps skinfold, and a series of counter movement jump assessments were performed by female (n=15) and male (n=17) NCAA XC runners to predict XC performance. Simple regression modeling identified 3200-m high school (HS) personal best (PB) time as best predictor for men’s 8-km performance (r = 0.85; p = 0.005, SEE = ± 0.65 min). For women, a model including triceps skinfold, vertical jump, …
An Investigation Of Popular Recovery Methods In Volleyball Players, Timber Terrell
An Investigation Of Popular Recovery Methods In Volleyball Players, Timber Terrell
Student Theses and Dissertations
Volleyball athletes are required to perform high force jumping skills throughout practice and competition which sometimes results in acute muscle soreness. Athletes and coaches are seeking novel recovery methods to enhance jumping performance. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of two recovery methods: compression therapy and cupping therapy. During compression therapy, athletes place pneumatic sleeves on their legs following practice. During cupping therapy, a cup device is placed on various locations on the legs and a small suction is applied. Six college volleyball athletes jumping performance and range of motion was measured on three days following …
Collegiate Athletes’ Symptoms Of Depression: A Systematic Review, Justin Homatas
Collegiate Athletes’ Symptoms Of Depression: A Systematic Review, Justin Homatas
Student Theses and Dissertations
Depression in college athletics has become a growing concern in recent years. Thus, the current review sough to provide a comprehensive overview of the research conducted up to this point on the subject of depression in college athletics, while also revealing areas in which more research is still needed. The initial search of the research databases produced 729 articles. 26 of the articles met the inclusion criteria and were accepted for the review. The results identified (a) the prevalence rate of depressive symptoms in college athletes, (b) risk factors contributing to the presence of depressive symptoms in college athletes, (c) …
The Effect Of Static Stretching On Countermovement Jump And Flexibility Performance In Collegiate Dancers, Ashlyn Raines
The Effect Of Static Stretching On Countermovement Jump And Flexibility Performance In Collegiate Dancers, Ashlyn Raines
Student Theses and Dissertations
Dancers require a large range of motion and joint mobility in order to successfully execute certain skills. The requirements of dance make stretching in warm-ups almost a necessity to reduce risk of injury, however the volume of static stretching has not been thoroughly researched in high flexibility athletes. The Purpose of this study was to investigate the dose-response of static stretching in dance and the effect it may have on performance. Two dancers volunteered for this study. Both dancers engaged in a general warm-up and different dosage of static stretches followed by a countermovement jump test on a force plate …
Effects Of Message Framing On Parents’ Attitudes Toward Concussion In Youth Sports, Christopher S. Rivera
Effects Of Message Framing On Parents’ Attitudes Toward Concussion In Youth Sports, Christopher S. Rivera
Student Theses and Dissertations
This study investigates the effects of message framing on parents’ attitudes toward concussion in youth sports. One of two digital surveys were sent via email to each of 250 participants. 125 participants received a survey preceded by a negative-framed infographic. The other 125 participants received a survey preceded by a positive-framed infographic. Our analysis shows the framed-message infographics had a negligible effect on parents’ attitudes toward concussion in youth sports. We conclude that regardless of knowledge or understanding of concussions, parents are likely to allow participation in full contact and collision sports. Limitations to this study were primarily stemmed from …
Collegiate Rugby Players' Knowledge Of Concussions, Julia E. Bell
Collegiate Rugby Players' Knowledge Of Concussions, Julia E. Bell
Student Theses and Dissertations
This investigation sought to discover if collegiate rugby players who have had a concussion were more knowledgeable about concussions than the players who had not had a concussion. The investigation also looked at the general amount of knowledge that the collegiate rugby players had about concussions, including the effects and prevention measures. This study was performed using a survey distributed to the Arkansas State University club rugby team. The survey consisted of several questions about concussions, the side effects of concussions, and players’ opinions on prevention and education of concussions. The data collection revealed that there were differing amounts of …
