Atrophic changes have been proposed as biomarkers for differential diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and different atrophic rates have been observed in AD, MCI-tp-AD converters (cMRI), stable MCI (sMCI), and normal healthy controls[1]. Measurement of atrophic changes, however, requires longitudinal MRI studies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the following questions: 1. Is it possible to use baseline volumetric MRI to predict MCI conversion to AD, i.e., to tell if a MCI patient is a cMCI or a sMCI? 2.
