Enhancing Sepsis Prevention In Long-Term Care Facilities: Development Of An Infection Prevention Sepsis Toolkit, Emmalyn A. Tuhin
Student Scholarly Projects
Objectives: The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to create, validate, and refine an Evidence-Based Sepsis Prevention Toolkit to enhanced early sepsis recognition and interprofessional coordination of care within long-term care facilities (LTCFs).
Background: Sepsis remains a leading cause of mortality and preventable transfer to the hospital for the elderly residents within the LTCFs. A significant practice gap persists because sepsis in this population often presents atypically, resulting in delayed or inaccurate diagnosis and treatment.
Methods: This project was guided by the following PICOT question: For healthcare professionals caring for patients aged 65 years and older …
Food Literacy Program Among Adults In A Primary Care Setting, Marie K. Williams
Food Literacy Program Among Adults In A Primary Care Setting, Marie K. Williams
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice problem: The increase in preventable chronic diseases is associated with food illiteracy, which arises from a lack of understanding of nutritional value and dietary guidelines (Silva et al., 2023).
PICOT: (P) In adult primary care patients aged 30-75 years, (I) does the implementation of evidence-based food literacy program (C) compared to standard practice (O) improve food literacy (T) in eight weeks?
Evidence: Using a validated food literacy questionnaire effectively measures improvements in food literacy. Customized programs that fill knowledge gaps are essential for enhancing overall food literacy. Intervention: Customized educational tools were provided to participants based on their knowledge …
Evaluation Of An Advanced Practice Clinician Onboarding Program, Sophia Robinson
Evaluation Of An Advanced Practice Clinician Onboarding Program, Sophia Robinson
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: This project aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a mentorship-based onboarding program versus a standard program without mentorship.
PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was (P), In newly hired APCs did the inclusion of mentorship in the onboarding process (I) lead to higher levels of general self-efficacy compared to standard orientation practices lacking mentorship (C), within an 8-week timeframe (T)?
Evidence: Nine articles were reviewed, revealing that standardized mentorship, structured orientation, and tailored support for professional development are critical strategies to boost confidence and retention among healthcare professionals.
Intervention: A standardized onboarding program that incorporated …
Lung Cancer Screening: An Evidence-Based Practice Change Project, Robert Bland
Lung Cancer Screening: An Evidence-Based Practice Change Project, Robert Bland
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Lung cancer is the leading cause of global cancer deaths and is a significant health issue in the US, claiming more than 155,000 lives each year. Lung cancer screening through low dose computed tomography (LDCT) can reduce lung cancer mortality by 20 percent but unfortunately, lung cancer screening is underutilized.
PICOT Question: The PICOT question that guided this project was: in a patient population eligible for LDCT lung screening (P), how does auditing of practice with feedback to the providers (I), compared to not doing the interventions as mentioned above (C), increase LDCT lung cancer screenings in the …
Improving Mammography Rates Among The Hispanic Population: An Evidence-Based Project Utilizing A Promotora Intervention, Dawn Mirowski
Improving Mammography Rates Among The Hispanic Population: An Evidence-Based Project Utilizing A Promotora Intervention, Dawn Mirowski
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in Hispanic women in the U.S., with mammography being the most effective means of reducing breast cancer mortality. Promotoras have been shown to improve health promotion, including mammography, among the Hispanic population.
PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was: In Hispanic women 40 years or older (P), how does the use of a promotora intervention (I), compared to no promotora intervention (C), affect mammography rates (O) within an 8-week period (T)?
Evidence: Twenty-one studies that met the inclusion criteria supported the use of promotoras to improve mammography …
