Level of Evidence: Level III
Introduction: Diabetic foot ulceration remains a major cause of lower-extremity amputation despite multidisciplinary wound care, debridement, infection control, offloading, and revascularization. Tibial transverse transport (TTT), based on the Ilizarov tension-stress principle, uses controlled transverse distraction of tibial cortex to promote angiogenesis and distal microcirculation in severe or recalcitrant diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs).
Aim: To systematically evaluate whether TTT improves wound healing, distal perfusion, ulcer recurrence, and limb salvage in severe or recalcitrant DFUs and define its potential role as an adjunctive salvage intervention.
Methods: A PRISMA-guided review of peer-reviewed literature through August …

Introduction: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are a major complication of diabetes and are associated with delayed wound healing, infection, amputation, and substantial morbidity. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) improve glycemic control and may influence inflammation, vascular function, and tissue repair. However, clinical evidence evaluating their relationship with DFU healing remains limited.
Aim: To characterize available clinical evidence examining the association between GLP-1 RA use and wound-healing outcomes in patients with diabetic foot ulcers.
Methods: PubMed and Google Scholar were searched for English-language studies published from 2021–2026 using terms combining “GLP-1 receptor …
Diabetic Foot Ulcer Healing Time With Silver Alginate Dressing: A Scoping Review, Srilalitha Lanka, Merlin Sajeev, Jessica Sima, Amanda Killeen
Diabetic Foot Ulcer Healing Time With Silver Alginate Dressing: A Scoping Review, Srilalitha Lanka, Merlin Sajeev, Jessica Sima, Amanda Killeen
School of Podiatric Medicine - Student Research
Introduction: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are slow-healing wounds that can lead to serious complications. Choosing the right dressing is important for improving healing. Silver alginate dressings are commonly used because they help fight infection and may promote faster recovery. This scoping review examines existing research on the effect of silver alginate dressings on DFU healing time.
Method: A literature search was conducted using Google Scholar and PubMed with the search terms: ““Diabetic foot ulcer” AND "wound healing" AND “silver Dressing” AND "alginate"” and “Diabetic foot ulcer AND wound healing AND silver Dressing AND alginate”, respectively. Articles published between 2005 and …
Diabetic Foot Ulcer Recurrence In Hispanic Americans: A Growing Concern, Daniela Lizbeth Avilez, Amanda Killeen
Diabetic Foot Ulcer Recurrence In Hispanic Americans: A Growing Concern, Daniela Lizbeth Avilez, Amanda Killeen
School of Podiatric Medicine - Student Research
Background: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) represent a critical public health concern among Hispanic populations, contributing significantly to healthcare disparities and an elevated risk of amputations. Although Hispanic Americans account for 11.7% of the U.S. population with diabetes, they experience disproportionately higher rates of DFUs and amputations compared to non-Hispanic White individuals. Additionally, Hispanic adults exhibit lower rates of attempted revascularization, which exacerbates their susceptibility to severe complications. As the Hispanic population continues to grow, particularly in Texas, addressing DFU recurrence is crucial for improving clinical outcomes and reducing health inequities. This review evaluates evidence on DFU recurrence within Hispanic populations. …
