Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a metabolic disorder that results in accumulation of the amino acid, phenylalanine, throughout the body. This can result in neurocognitive complications if individuals with this disease do not follow a low-protein diet. Camp PHEver is a weeklong summer camp that gives children with PKU an opportunity to obtain skills related to diet compliance, but also enhance their confidence, relationship development, and independence. BACKGROUND: Sacral agenesis (SA) consists of partial or complete absence of the caudal end of the spine and often presents with additional birth defects. Several studies have examined gene variants for syndromic forms of SA, but only one has examined exomes of children with non-syndromic SA.

METHODS: Using buccal cell specimens from families of children with non-syndromic SA, exomes of 28 child-parent trios (eight with and 20 without a maternal diagnosis of pregestational diabetes) and two child-father duos (neither with diagnosis of maternal pregestational diabetes) were exome sequenced.

BACKGROUND: Recent data have demonstrated that overall mortality and adverse events are not significantly different for primary repair (PR) and staged repair (SR) approaches to management of neonates with symptomatic tetralogy of Fallot (sTOF). Cost data can be used to compare the relative value (cost for similar outcomes) of these approaches and are a potentially more sensitive measure of morbidity.

OBJECTIVES: Arginine vasopressin (AVP) is used to treat hypotension. Because AVP increases blood pressure by increasing systemic vascular resistance, it may have an adverse effect on tissue oxygenation following the Norwood procedure.

METHODS: Retrospective analysis of continuously captured hemodynamic data of neonates receiving AVP following the Norwood procedure.

RESULTS: We studied 64 neonates exposed to AVP within 7 days after the Norwood procedure. For the entire group, AVP significantly increased mean blood pressure (2.5 ± 6.3) and cerebral and renal oxygen extraction ratios (4.1% ± 9.6% and 2.0% ± 4.7%, respectively;

We aimed to assess and compare the feasibility, agreement, and reproducibility of left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal (GLS), and regional strain by 3D vs 2D STE in normal children.

Neonates born in community hospitals, however, often experience delayed evaluation due to transport to the tertiary care center. We studied teleconsultations in community hospitals to decrease this disparity.

Design: In this quasi-experimental study, we implemented CUSP in four NICUs in Pune, India, to improve IPC practices in three focus areas: hand hygiene, aseptic technique for invasive procedures, and medication and intravenous fluid preparation and administration. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a complex congenital heart condition in which a neonate is born with an underdeveloped left ventricle and associated structures. Without palliative interventions, HLHS is fatal. Treatment typically includes medical management at the time of birth to maintain patency of the ductus arteriosus, followed by three palliative procedures: most commonly the Norwood procedure, bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt, and Fontan procedures. Introduction

Hemangiomas are benign vascular tumors that are common during infancy. They are most commonly noted as superficial bright red lesions on the skin but can also be found deeper as subcutaneous lesions. Patients with multifocal cutaneous hemangiomas are at risk of visceral involvement with the liver being most commonly affected. Most hemangiomas can be monitored clinically as they are self-limiting. Despite this, hepatic hemangiomas can have serious complications including large arteriovenous shunts leading to cardiac compromise as well as severe hepatomegaly which can cause abdominal compartment syndrome, impaired ventilation and renal vein compression.

Background: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a well-known complication occurring in the most premature infants leading to visual impairment and in the most severe cases associated with retinal detachment and childhood blindness. Factors contributing the development of ROP include chronic hypoxia and disordered vascular genesis primarily through the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling pathway. Infants at risk of developing ROP are screened with serial eye exam and treated with either laser surgery or intraocular injects of bevacizumab (Avastin) to prevent progression of ROP and preserve vision. Background: Tricuspid atresia comprises 3-4% of all congenital heart disease (CHD). Anatomic findings are no true connection between the right atrium (RA) and right ventricle (RV) with concomitant findings of a ventricular septal defect (VSD), right ventricular hypoplasia, abnormalities of right ventricular outflow tract, pulmonary valve and pulmonary arteries. Common associated lesions have been described including transposition of great vessels, hypoplasia of aortic arch, double outlet ventricle or a common arterial trunk. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic currently gripping the globe is impacting the entire health care system with rapidly escalating morbidities and mortality. Although the infectious risk to the pediatric population appears low, the effects on children with congenital heart disease (CHD) remain poorly understood. The closure of congenital heart surgery programs worldwide to address the growing number of infected individuals could have an unintended impact on future health for COVID-19-negative patients with CHD. Atrioventricular septal defects (AVSD) are a severe congenital heart defect present in individuals with Down syndrome (DS) at a > 2000-fold increased prevalence compared to the general population. This study aimed to identify risk-associated genes and pathways and to examine a potential polygenic contribution to AVSD in DS. We analyzed a total cohort of 702 individuals with DS with or without AVSD, with genomic data from whole exome sequencing, whole genome sequencing, and/or array-based imputation.
