Background Mucocele of the nose and paranasal sinuses are a slowly benign expansion that may cause compression of the surrounding important structures such as the orbit or the brain in 44.9% of cases. Mucopyocele is a rare presentation (especially maxillary mucopyocele) resulting from a secondary bacterial infection. CT scan of the paranasal sinus is efficient in identifying and localizing the affected sinus and its bony extension also helps to plan the endonasal endoscopic surgery. Material and methods This is a retrospective study, we have documented 9 cases with a history of mucocele, or mucopyocele. 2 cases are excluded. One of …

Background Hepatitis C viral infection is endemic among Egyptian patients due to the higher prevalence among these populations. About 3% of the world’s population (170 million patients) are infected with viral C. The prevalence of HCV antibodies is 14.7% among the age group 15-59. This study is concerned with assessing the prevalence of viral C antibodies among different age groups and variable otorhinolaryngology surgical procedures for these patients. Material and Methods All patients admitted for any operative procedure should be investigated for viral C antibodies in the blood among the national survey in Egypt to control the prevention and active …

In severe vocal fold (VF) lesions, deposits of disorganized, thick collagen bundles and little hyaluronic acid (HA) are deposited in the superficial layer of lamina propria (SLP). These changes lead to severe dysphonia and aspiration, which could be complicated by fatal pneumonia. Unfortunately, no specific treatment has been recognized due to unpredictable VF regeneration. Current progress in regenerative medicine has allowed the development of tissue engineering techniques using cells, scaffolds, and growth factors (GFs). Extrinsic GFs application could help in the induction of the regenerative process. The work aims to assess the voice quality after a single GF injection of …
