Guideline-recommended screening programs exist for only a few single-cancer types, and these cancers represent less than one-half of all new cancer cases diagnosed each year in the U.S. In addition, these "single-cancer" standard of care (SoC) screening tests vary in accuracy, adherence, and effectiveness, though all are generally understood to lead to reductions in cancer-related mortality. Recent advances in high-throughput technologies and machine learning have facilitated the development of blood-based multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests. The establishment of a student-run mobile clinic in Morehead, Kentucky, led by students from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine’s (UKCOM) Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP), aims to address health inequities in rural Appalachian communities. This pilot program is designed to serve vulnerable populations, including the unhoused, by delivering free, accessible healthcare services directly to underserved populations. This program serves as a model for expanding access to healthcare in rural regions while promoting a collaborative, community-based approach to addressing social determinants of health.

BACKGROUND: Primary care is the initial contact point for most patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) but lacks tools for guiding treatment. Only a small fraction of patients access evidence-based care. Long-acting injectable buprenorphine has potential to improve medication adherence and program retention in low-barrier primary care treatment settings. We present the first clinical decision support algorithm incorporating long-acting buprenorphine (LAIB) in primary care. We include a protocol for a future evaluation of the algorithm's implementation process, "Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) 2.0," at a housing and integrated care clinic at a Federally Qualified Health Center.

Introduction: Persistent racial and ethnic disparities exist for Type 2 diabetes in the U.S. Racial and ethnic minorities have a higher risk of Type 2 diabetes, and studies suggest that they engage in less exercise than White population. This study examined whether and to what degree racial differences in Type 2 diabetes were explained by exercise. Methods: Adults aged 45–84 years without Type 2 diabetes at baseline (2000–2002) were included from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis cohort and followed through 2020. Common causes include coronary artery disease, chronic hypertension, arrhythmia, and myocardial infarction, often managed in clinical and hospital settings. A rare cause, however, is infiltrative cardiomyopathy, affecting just 0.04% of the U.S. population. BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) affects approximately 7 in 100,000 adults annually, with a mortality rate of 50%. It is typically idiopathic, progressive, and irreversible. However, in the context of hypothyroidism, DCM can be reversible. Hypothyroid-induced DCM with coexisting systolic dysfunction is a rare occurrence. This case report presents an exceptional instance of this phenomenon, highlighting the critical role of thyroid hormone replacement in improving patient outcomes.
