BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Barriers to performing family medicine research include funding, infrastructure, and mentorship shortages. The Council of Academic Family Medicine Educational Research Alliance (CERA) was created in 2011 to address these issues. This study explores the scope and impact of CERA-related publications in family medicine.

METHODS: We performed a descriptive bibliometric study of CERA-related publications from 2011 to 2023. Articles were sourced from Medline (PubMed), SCOPUS, and the CERA website. Data analysis focused on publication type, authors, CERA survey type, and citation rates.

RESULTS: From a total of 231 articles retrieved via initial searches and 166 from the CERA …

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The family medicine clerkship has been found to influence medical students' decision-making regarding specialty choice. Understanding how the family medicine clerkship has changed over the past decade may assist in recruitment efforts. Our study explored trends in family medicine clerkship design, length, and format and correlated these characteristics with high proportions of medical school graduates choosing family medicine.

METHODS: We performed a secondary analysis of the Council of Academic Family Medicine Educational Research Alliance annual family medicine clerkship director surveys from 2012 to 2023. We analyzed standard family medicine clerkship structure questions that were asked in each …

We, as the current and immediate-past NAPCRG Trainee Committee, share our perspectives as an international and diverse group of primary care research trainees. In this essay, we discuss the challenges and opportunities for achieving a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive primary care workforce by reflecting on 2 main challenges: (1) insufficient support for underrepresented identities in medicine, and (2) inadequate integration within existing primary care teams. Within each of these challenges, we pose potential opportunities for improvement using a trainee lens.

BACKGROUND: Academic family medicine (FM) physicians aim to balance competing needs of providing clinical care with nonclinical duties of program administration, formal education, and scholarly activity. FM residency is unique in its scope of practice, clinical settings, and training priorities, which may differ between university-based and community-based programs. In both types of programs, these competing needs are a source of faculty dissatisfaction and burnout. We performed this study to explore the allocation of nonclinical administrative full-time equivalents (FTE) for FM residency core faculty members.

RESULTS: Reported nonclinical administrative FTE time allocation is equivalent between university/medical school-based and community-based programs. The …

PURPOSE: Meeting scholarly activity requirements continues to be a challenge in many family medicine (FM) residency programs. Studies comprehensively describing FM resident scholarship have been limited. We sought to identify institutional factors associated with increased scholarly output and meeting requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

OBJECTIVES: Our goals were to: (1) describe scholarly activity experiences among FM residents compared with ACGME requirements; (2) classify experiences by Boyer's domains of scholarship; and (3) associate experiences with residency program characteristics and scholarly activity infrastructure.

METHODS: This was a cross-sectional survey. The survey questions were part of an omnibus …
