BACKGROUND Patients with cancer are more likely to develop nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Currently there are no definitive clinical trials or treatment guidelines for NVAF patients with concurrent cancer.

OBJECTIVES This subgroup analysis of the ARISTOPHANES study compared the risk of stroke/systemic embolism (stroke/SE) and major bleeding (MB) among NVAF patients with active cancer who were prescribed non–vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) or warfarin.

Introduction: Paraganglioma are infrequent neuroendocrine tumors that are most commonly found in the carotid body, ganglia of the vagus, jugular and tympanic nerve. Very rarely they can involve other cranial nerves outside the cranial cavity, we present one such case of hypoglossal nerve paraganglioma in neck.
Case report: A 48 years old male presented with 1-month history of right sided stroke and aphasia. Ultrasonography of neck revealed a highly vascular mass on the right side of the neck. Before biomarkers can be used in clinical trials or patients' management, the laboratory assays that measure their levels have to go through development and analytical validation. One of the most critical performance metrics for validation of any assay is related to the minimum amount of values that can be detected and any value below this limit is referred to as below the limit of detection (LOD). Most of the existing approaches that model such biomarkers, restricted by LOD, are parametric in nature. These parametric models, however, heavily depend on the distributional assumptions, and can result in loss of precision under …
