Patients with multiple myeloma (MM) without high-risk cytogenetic abnormalities are classified as having standard-risk MM (SRMM), and data focusing on their outcomes after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (autoHCT) are limited. We sought to evaluate survival outcomes for patients with SRMM receiving autoHCT, and to elucidate factors that impact these outcomes. This was a single-center retrospective analysis that included consecutive MM patients who received upfront autoHCT between 2013 and 2021, had available cytogenetic information and had no high-risk chromosomal abnormalities on fluorescence in situ hybridization, defined as t(4;14), t(14;16), del(17p) or 1q21 gain or amplification. Outcomes in patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) are poor. Loncastuximab- teserine (Lonca) is an antibody-drug conjugate which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of patients with R/R DLBCL who have received at least two prior lines of therapy, based on the results of the LOTIS-2 trial. However, there are limited data regarding its efficacy in the real-world setting. This retrospective study included 21 US centers and evaluated outcomes of patients with R/R DLBCL treated with Lonca. Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are congenital vascular anomalies that can lead to severe complications, including hemorrhage and neurological deficits. This study compares the outcomes of microsurgical resection and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for SM grade I and II AVMs. Out of a large multicenter registry, we identified 180 matched patients with SM grade I and II AVMs treated with either microsurgical resection or SRS between 2010 and 2023. The primary outcomes were AVM obliteration rates and complications; secondary outcomes included neurological status and functional outcomes measured by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). The prognostic impact of measurable residual disease (MRD) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is unequivocal; however, the optimal time point for achieving undetectable MRD is unclear. We retrospectively studied patients with newly diagnosed (ND) AML who achieved remission with frontline intensive chemotherapy and had MRD assessed by flow cytometry after induction (time point 1 [TP1]) and after cycles 2 or 3 (TP2). Cases were grouped into MRD negative (Neg)/Neg, positive (Pos)/Neg, or Pos/Pos at TP1 and TP2, respectively. The Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device is FDA-approved for the treatment of bifurcation aneurysms. Despite its wide popularity, it has been under scrutiny for its association with potential aneurysm recanalization and retreatment due to device shape modification. This study aims to analyze the shape modification rate of WEB devices and identify factors associated with this phenomenon, as well as its correlation with aneurysm retreatment. Zika virus (ZIKV) is unique among orthoflaviviruses in its vertical transmission capacity in humans, yet the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Here, we show that ZIKV induces tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) in placental trophoblasts which facilitate transfer of viral particles, proteins, mitochondria, and RNA to neighboring uninfected cells. TNT formation is driven exclusively via ZIKV non-structural protein 1 (NS1). Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is the leading medical cause of death in young athletes. Male African American basketball players (MABP) demonstrate particularly elevated risk for SCD. Despite increasing screening and preventative efforts, the incidence of SCD remains elevated in this population. This retrospective analysis of the HeartBytes National Youth Cardiac Registry (2015-2023) aimed to characterize cardiac screening findings, including symptoms, family history, physical exam, and electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormalities in MABP compared to other youth athletes undergoing cardiac screening. BACKGROUND: Treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIA) less than 7 mm is controversial. We created a scoring system to guide decision making and validated the system utilizing over 700 cases treated with microsurgery or endovascular procedures.

METHODS: The scoring system SMALLSS included Size, (4-7 mm: 1 point, < 3.9 mm: 0 point), Multiple aneurysms (yes: 1, no: 0), Anatomic location (posterior: 1, anterior: 0), Lineage- family history of aneurysm (yes:1, no: 0), Lifetime risk (age < 65: 1, age > 65: 0), Smoking history (yes: 1, no: 0 ), Shape (irregular:1, smooth:0 ). Validation of this system was performed through retrospective review of prospectively maintained data for UIA patients treated between 2014 and 2021. We then performed an external validation of a cohort of 200 small aneurysms < 7 mm treated at a high volume cerebrovascular center.

Background: Nivolumab plus ipilimumab (nivo/ipi) is a standard of care first-line (1 L) therapy for patients with metastatic clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), but its role in patients with metastatic, non-ccRCC has not been fully defined. We report a single-institution experience with nivo/ipi in non-ccRCC.

Methods: Between November 2017 and February 2024, 55 patients with metastatic non-ccRCC received nivo/ipi at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the leading cause of chronic liver disease and is associated with significant cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. This study aims to investigate the association of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists with major cardiovascular events, clinically significant portal hypertension events, and all-cause mortality in patients with MASLD. A large, population-based retrospective cohort study was conducted using the TriNetX platform, which provided real-time access to electronic health records of 634,265 adult patients with MASLD/MASH. Background: The objective of this study was to develop and validate a radiomics-based machine learning (ML) model to differentiate between renal medullary carcinoma (RMC) and clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC).

Methods: This retrospective Institutional Review Board -approved study analyzed CT images and clinical data from patients with RMC (n = 87) and ccRCC (n = 93). Patients without contrast-enhanced CT scans obtained before nephrectomy were excluded. A standard volumetric software package (MIM 7.1.4, MIM Software Inc.) was used for contouring, after which 949 radiomics features were extracted with PyRadiomics 3.1.0. Objective: Rheumatologic disease-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare, life-threatening, systemic hyperinflammatory syndrome, occurs as a complication of underlying rheumatologic disease. Real-world evidence is lacking on emapalumab, a fully human monoclonal antibody that neutralizes the proinflammatory cytokine interferon-γ, approved for treating patients with primary HLH.

Methods: REAL-HLH, a retrospective medical chart review study conducted across 33 US hospitals, assessed real-world treatment patterns and outcomes in patients with HLH treated with one or more dose of emapalumab between November 20, 2018, and October 31, 2021. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The original hepatocellular carcinoma early detection screening (HES) score, which combines alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) with age, alanine aminotransferase, and platelets, has better performance than AFP alone for early HCC detection. We have developed HES V2.0 by adding AFP-L3 and des-gamma-carboxy prothrombin to the score and compared its performance to GALAD and ASAP scores among patients with cirrhosis.

Objectives: Approximately 30% of non-metastatic anal squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC) patients will experience recurrence after chemoradiotherapy (CRT), and currently available clinical variables are poor predictors of treatment response. We aimed to develop a model leveraging information extracted from radiation pretreatment planning CT to predict recurrence-free survival (RFS) in ASCC patients after CRT.

Anthracyclines are effective chemotherapeutics used in approximately 60% of pediatric cancer cases but have a well-documented risk of cardiotoxicity. Existing cardiotoxicity risk calculators do not include cardiovascular risk factors present at the time of diagnosis. The goal of this study is to leverage the advanced sensitivity of strain echocardiography to identify pre-existing risk factors for early subclinical cardiac dysfunction among anthracycline-exposed pediatric patients. BACKGROUND: Despite the existence of institutional protocols, liver transplant centers often have variability in early immunosuppression practices. We aimed to measure within-center variability in early immunosuppression after pediatric liver transplant (LT) and examine its association with one-year outcomes.

METHODS: We analyzed pediatric LTs from 2013 to 2018 in the United Network for Organ Sharing registry, with data aggregated by center. PurposeThis retrospective cohort study sought to examine participant skill and functional progression in an adaptive snow sports program for children and young adults with disabilities.MethodsOne hundred twelve individuals, majority male, who participated in at least 2 adapted ski or snowboard sessions were evaluated by trained adaptive instructors. The primary outcome measure was standardized skill level ranging from 1-novice to 9-expert. Background: Primary cutaneous CD4+ small/medium T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder (PCSM-LPD) is an increasingly recognized entity with heterogeneous management strategies that may include radiotherapy.

Objective: Our aim was to characterize treatment options for PCSM-LPD, with a focus on the role of radiotherapy.

Methods: This is a retrospective review of 46 patients seen in the Cutaneous Lymphoma Program at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, with a clinicopathologic review consistent with PCSM-LPD. All patients were biopsied and underwent observation, topical/intralesional steroids, and/or radiotherapy. Patients were confirmed to have residual disease prior to radiotherapy.

Objective: Encephalitis is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition of infectious or autoimmune cause. We aim to characterize the frequency and clinical spectrum of presenting psychiatric symptoms in encephalitis in order to inform earlier recognition and initiation of treatment.

Objective: To develop and implement a portfolio of electronic triggers (e-triggers) and examine their performance for identifying missed opportunities in diagnosis (MODs) in emergency departments (EDs).

Context: Pediatric papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is usually treated with total thyroidectomy followed by radioactive iodine (RAI). Recently, RAI has been used more selectively based on surgical pathology and postoperative dynamic risk stratification (DRS).

Objective: To describe patients with pediatric PTC not initially treated with RAI and their disease outcomes.

Methods: This was an ambispective study at a tertiary cancer center of patients < 19 years diagnosed from January 1, 1990, to December 31, 2021, with stage 1 PTC who intentionally were not treated with RAI within a year of diagnosis. We assessed clinical characteristics, management, and disease outcomes using DRS.

We conducted a retrospective review of children tested for Mycoplasma pneumoniae from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2024. M. pneumoniae polymerase chain reaction positivity increased starting in November 2023, peaking at 18.3% in June 2024. During the resurgence, children with laboratory-confirmed infection often had severe respiratory disease or extrapulmonary manifestations.

Cerebral proliferative angiopathy (CPA) is a rare subtype of cerebral arteriovenous malformation, characterized by unique angiographic features and clinical presentations. Although the clinical and angiographic characteristics of CPA have been well described, their impact on the surrounding tissues remains underexplored. Herein, we investigated the presence of calvarial thickening in patients with CPA, and discuss its potential pathogenesis.
