Aging, a universal and inevitable process, is characterized by a progressive accumulation of physiological alterations and functional decline over time, leading to increased vulnerability to diseases and ultimately mortality as age advances. Lifestyle factors, notably physical activity (PA) and exercise, significantly modulate aging phenotypes. Physical activity and exercise can prevent or ameliorate lifestyle-related diseases, extend health span, enhance physical function, and reduce the burden of non-communicable chronic diseases including cardiometabolic disease, cancer, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, and chronic respiratory diseases as well as premature mortality. Background: Oropharyngeal cancer rates continue to rise with no effective screening method. Persistent oral oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV), antibodies to HPV16 early (E) oncoproteins, and circulating tumor HPV DNA (ctHPVDNA) are biomarkers that show promise for use in HPV-related cancer screening.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of biomarkers for HPV-related cancer and their agreement in middle-aged men.

Background: Cardiac symptoms due to postacute inflammatory cardiac involvement affect a broad segment of previously well people with only mild acute coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) illness and without overt structural heart disease. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging can identify the underlying subclinical disease process, which is associated with chronic cardiac symptoms. Specific therapy directed at reducing postacute cardiac inflammatory involvement before development of myocardial injury and impairment is missing.

Background: Colon cancer screening studies are needed for the early detection of colorectal polyps to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. Unfortunately, the data generated on colon polyps are typically analyzed in their dichotomized form and sometimes with standard count models, which leads to potentially inaccurate findings in research studies. Background: Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) is an underdiagnosed entity among patients with new-onset chronic diarrhea (CD). The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of EPI in patients with CD.

Materials and methods: Patients with new-onset CD (≥4 weeks) from 2018 to 2021 were enrolled in this single-center prospective study. If stool fecal elastase (FE) was < 200 μg/g, patients were offered a confirmatory 72-hour fecal fat test.

Results: FE testing was completed by 97 patients, of which 9 had low FE (9.3%). Average weight was significantly higher in patients with low FE (98.5 ± 29.3 kg vs 82.2 ± 22.2 kg; P = 0.045). There was no significant difference …

Background: Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) is an low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-like particle whose elevation is considered a causal risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and calcific aortic valve stenosis. Currently, there are no published clinical trials showing whether Lp(a) lowering in conjunction with optimal LDL cholesterol control reduces ASCVD risk.

Methods: Clinicaltrials.gov, an online database for clinical research studies, was used to identify ongoing clinical trials studying targeted Lp(a) lowering pharmacotherapy as of May 2025. Twelve clinical studies met the criteria and were included in this summary.

Background: Vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) inhibitors are often prescribed for the treatment of hyperkinetic movement disorders such as tics, stereotypy, tardive dyskinesia and chorea. These dopamine depleters have been FDA approved in adults for the treatment of chorea in Huntington's disease and tardive dyskinesia. Use of VMAT2 inhibitors in pediatric hyperkinetic movement disorders, however, is limited due to lack of pediatric FDA approval. Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) contributes significantly to global cancer-related mortality, often because patients present at advanced stages of the disease. HCC commonly metastasizes to the lung, abdominal lymph nodes, and bone. However, even among bony metastases, calvarial lesions are exceptionally rare, especially in the initial presentation.

Case description: We describe a unique case of a 65-year-old African American woman who presented with a rapidly growing skull lesion as her first clinical sign of metastatic HCC. Nutritional epidemiology aims to link dietary exposures to chronic disease, but the instruments for evaluating dietary intake are inaccurate. One way to identify unreliable data and the sources of errors is to compare estimated intakes with the total energy expenditure (TEE). In this study, we used the International Atomic Energy Agency Doubly Labeled Water Database to derive a predictive equation for TEE using 6,497 measures of TEE in individuals aged 4 to 96 years. Background and purpose: Rural-urban disparities in neurological care have been well documented, but limited data exist regarding Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). This study examines differences in patient demographics, hospital characteristics, and outcomes among GBS admissions to rural versus urban hospitals in the United States.

Methods: Using the 2021 National Inpatient Sample, we conducted a retrospective cohort study of adult hospitalizations with a principal diagnosis of GBS. Hospitals were classified as rural or urban based on U.S. census designations. Parkinson's disease (PD), a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, manifests with motor and non-motor symptoms. Despite similar incidence, in the US, disease management of Hispanic patients with PD is poorer than that of White non-Hispanics, and their participation in clinical trials does not reflect expected values (well below 5% vs. expected values around 20%). Together with other evidence, these observations are expressions of poor healthcare in Hispanic patients with PD, suggesting underutilization of proper healthcare, social and economic disadvantage, and other factors. Aim of the study: We aimed to translate and validate the Polish version of the MDS-NMS and compare it with the original English version.

Clinical rationale for the study: Non-motor symptoms (NMS) affect a significant portion of the Parkinson's disease (PD) patient population and may negatively impact their quality of life. Non-motor symptoms may contribute to an increased sense of illness among patients and to a greater burden upon their caregivers. It is therefore advisable to develop a Polish validation of a reference scale for diagnosing and assessing the severity of NMS.

Background: Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) has been demonstrated to improve quality of life in patients with refractory dystonia and Tourette's syndrome (TS). Because of the young age at onset of these disorders, and the marked benefit from DBS, pregnancy in patients who have received DBS is becoming a more frequent clinical occurrence, although clear management guidelines are lacking.

Cases: We report 14 new pregnancies in patients with dystonia or TS and DBS.

Literature review: Upon review of the literature, 23 pregnancies in patients with dystonia or TS were previously reported in seven articles.

Background and purpose: Optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measured by point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is a commonly used non-invasive estimate of intracranial pressure (ICP). However, methodological variations limit standardization of this promising technique. Different imaging axes are identified as one such source of ONSD POCUS methodological variation. This study aimed to evaluate the agreement and diagnostic accuracy for elevated ICP between transverse and sagittal ONSD measurements.

Background: Intraosseous meningiomas and cystic meningiomas are two rare subtypes of meningiomas. Meningiomas can develop with characteristics encompassing both cystic and intraosseous, termed intraosseous cystic meningiomas, that pose a diagnostic challenge.

Introduction: This study aimed to explore the feasibility and safety of robotic single port vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (RSP-vNOTES) hysterectomy when compared with traditional vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (T-vNOTES) hysterectomy.

Methods: In this study, the clinical data of 135 patients who underwent RSP-vNOTES or T-vNOTES hysterectomy performed by a single minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon from January 2017 to September 2024 were retrospectively analyzed. Clinical characteristics, surgical outcomes, perioperative complications, and postoperative pain scores were collected and analyzed.

Our objective was to assess the incidence, risk factors and clinical outcomes of dehiscence after foot surgery in diabetic patients. We used pooled patient‐level data from two randomised clinical trials with 240 diabetic patients who required foot surgery for infections. Most patients (n = 180, 75.0%) had surgical wound closure. We defined dehisced surgical wounds (DSW) when the surgical site was not completely epithelialized with no drainage after sutures/staples were removed with a 2‐week validation of healing. BACKGROUND: The impact of coronary artery aneurysms (CAAs) caused by Kawasaki disease (KD) on long-term health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in children has not been well documented.

METHODS: This study investigated long-term HRQOL in a large sample of children diagnosed with KD-related CAAs. A case-control, retrospective study included 66 patients with KD-related CAAs. A total of 98 hospitalized patients were matched as controls based on age and sex: 49 patients were allocated to a group with pneumonia and 49 patients were allocated to a group with arterio-arterial fistula. Introduction: People living with HIV (PLWH) often experience low rates of retention in HIV care (RIC) and suboptimal viral suppression postpartum. Understanding contemporary barriers to RIC is crucial to identify risk factors for loss to care and thereby improve support during this vulnerable transition. Whole transcriptome sequencing (WTS/ RNA-Seq) is a ubiquitous tool for investigating cancer biology. RNA isolated from frozen sources limits possible studies for analysis of associations with phenotypes or clinical variables requiring long-term follow-up. Although good correlations are reported in RNA-Seq data from paired frozen and formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) samples, uncertainties regarding RNA quality, methods of extraction, and data reliability are hurdles to utilization of archival samples.
