Background and purpose: Functional avoidance radiotherapy has emerged as a promising technique using functional imaging to minimize pulmonary toxicity by reducing doses to functional lung. This study aims to investigate the potential dose-volume advantages of a novel spot-scanning proton arc (SPArc) therapy for functional avoidance radiotherapy with four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT)-based ventilation imaging.

PURPOSE: We conducted an integrated safety analysis from three clinical studies of tebentafusp, a first-in-class ImmTAC bispecific T-cell engager, which can redirect T cells to target glycoprotein 100-positive cells, in metastatic uveal melanoma.

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: HLA-A*02:01-positive patients with unresectable or metastatic uveal melanoma enrolled in three clinical trials (IMCgp100-01, IMCgp100-102, and IMCgp100-202) who received ≥1 dose of tebentafusp were included. Although ionizing radiation is frequently used in anesthesia-related procedures, many CRNAs receive minimal training in radiation safety principles and protective measures. This knowledge gap increases the risk of cumulative radiation exposure for providers and patients. To address the issue, this doctoral project developed and implemented an online educational intervention designed to enhance CRNAs’ understanding of radiation safety, ultimately promoting safer practices in radiation-prone environments.

BACKGROUND: Sexual dysfunction is a significant toxicity of pelvic radiation therapy (RT) for female rectal cancer patients and may be more common with intensity-modulated techniques compared to three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT). However, limited research has evaluated dose sparing of female sexual organs at risk (OARs), particularly erectile tissues that are critical for sexual function.

A 48-year-old male presented to the emergency department in respiratory distress, with a history of poorly controlled asthma and a remote history of pulmonary embolus. After failing a non-invasive ventilation trial and numerous treatments for presumed status asthmaticus, he was planned for intubation. During the procedure, a large supraglottic mass was visualized, obstructing the airway and preventing successful orotracheal intubation via video laryngoscopy. Securing the airway was complicated by cardiac arrest, likely hypoxia-driven. The patient underwent a successful retrograde intubation followed by post-cardiac arrest stabilization. This case highlights the technique and its role in difficult airway management.

BACKGROUND: Pilon fractures often result from high energy mechanisms resulting in long-term morbidity and postoperative complications. While there is extensive literature investigating frailty scales as tools for preoperative risk stratification in orthopedic surgery, there is no literature regarding their use in fixation of pilon fractures. The objective of this study was to compare the predictive ability and discriminative accuracy of the Revised Risk Analysis Index (RAI-rev) and the 5-Item Modified Frailty (mFI-5) in 30-day postoperative outcomes following surgical fixation of pilon fractures.

Background: Sleep disturbances greatly impact children's academic performance and social well-being. This study set out to determine the prevalence of sleep disturbances and factors associated among school going children in Kawempe division, Kampala, Uganda. Methods: In a community cross-sectional study, 548 study participants using random cluster sampling were enrolled. The children start lessons at 8am and end the days classes at 5pm. Random cluster sampling method was used to select participants from the 19 parishes in Kawempe district.
